Alice was so excited she had packed all her clothes, stuffed animals, pictures, books, and anything else she considered valuable in boxes to be taken to her new home later. Alice was so excited she was actually kind of worried she would leave something, so here she was, checking to see if she had everything for the fifth time.
"Okay, I'm ready, I'm ready, I'm ready"
"Good to know, Spongebob," Tony said, leaning on her door frame " The helicopter is ready to go upstairs. I'll deliver everything else later. Everyone is waiting for you"
"I can't wait to meet everyone, " Alice said, practically bouncing on her toes she put on her backpack and grabbed her suitcase "Okay, let's go, let's go, let's go"
"Alright, alright, alright," Tony let the way upstairs to an awaiting Stark Industries Helicopter "It's self-piloted, " he said, trying to impress her
"I would have thought so, seeing as you are a genius," she smirked "And lazy," she laughed.
Before getting on the helicopter Alice when and looked over the side of the roof she'd never seen the full cave, just what it looked like from underwater, but above ground, it looked "absolutely Beautiful"
"What?"
"I've never seen it from above, and it looks beautiful. Does the rest of the world look like this? I can't remember"
"Some of it, not all of it, maybe I can show you some other time," He said, leading her to the helicopter "I would like that."
Getting on the helicopter, Tony helped Alice get buckled up. The sight above was truly beautiful the waterfalls, the rivers, the mountains, and just everything was beautiful. Alice's face was glued to the window the entire time, saying 'wow' and 'awesome' along the way Tony did point out a few things to her like rivers and the ocean "Just wait until we get to the city," he said once he saw that she was amazed by a small village below. She eventually fell asleep against the window, Tony took a picture as a keepsake.
-
"Hey, sweetheart, wakes up, we're here," Tony said, gently waking her up "Look, it's the city."
She finally woke up to see the beautiful city lights below them "Beautiful," she mumbled as the lights passed by
"and that's Avengers Tower, your new home" Tony pointed towards the tower, the large 'A' shining brightly on the side of the building where Avengers awaited.
Inside the tower, the Avengers, as well as Rohdey, Pepper, and Happy, waited on their toes. They were all filled with excitement and curiosity. Tony had a daughter. What would she be like, would she be like him, smart and cocky, would she look like him, or would she look and act like her mother. Oh, the possibilities, they just couldn't wait.
Rohdey, on the other, was having a blast watching everyone fidget and imagine what she would be. Rohdey had met her on several occasions, not all of them good, and thought the kid was awesome. When he first met her, he thought she was too sweet and shy to be Tony's kid and asked for proof which led to four different DNA tests saying that Alice was indeed Tony's child, but Rohdey, to this day, still believes Tony rigged those tests.
The room became silent when J.A.R.V.I.S. announced, "Miss Stark has Arrived " Pepper stood up and straightened her dress, and Happy straightened his tie and checked his hair. Those who weren't in the living room soon came down quickly and settled themselves on the couch." she coming," Pepper said, all excited, practically dancing in her shoes.
The room was silent until the elevator opened, and "WOW !!! This place is awesome," a girl said only one person recognized her voice.
"I haven't even shown you the rest of the place," Tony said
"It's so big. How long will that take?"
"Probably an hour if I skip the boring floors. Everyone, I'd like you to meet Alice, My daughter. " Tony said, Pulling a girl in behind him.
She was about 5'3 with pale white skin like she's never seen the sun and long Raven hair that covered the right side of her face. She wore a grey sweater under a black overall dress, thigh-high socks, and black high heels. She kind of looked like a schoolgirl. Alice was a bit shy, years of isolation does that to people, tugging on the sleeve of her sweater and looking at the floor, clearly anxious. She could not recall if she had ever been in a room with this many people before, probably not.
"Hi," Alice whispered, looking up slightly
"Nice to see you again, Alice," Rohdey said, making the girl smile "You've gotten so big. I guess, seeing as you're older, you don't want this teddy bear" He held up a stuffed teddy he had gotten her earlier in the day.
Alice looked up she didn't move or say anything fidgeting and picking at her nails as she stared at the teddy bear in his hand. She did indeed want the teddy bear she wasn't too old, but she couldn't move she was far too anxious, too many eyes were watching, and her heart was beating a bit too fast. She had just arrived, and she was already overwhelmed. Rhodey saw this taking a couple of steps forward, he handed her the teddy bear. She goes from picking her nails to picking at its fur. She nods in thanks.
This was not the little girl Rhodey has seen last.
" I'm Pepper Potts. It's nice to meet you finally. I've heard a lot about you. I work for your father"
"Hi, I'm Happy, I also work for your father" Alice nodded and gave the two a smile
"Steve Roger"
"Capsicle," Tony said, giving her his nickname
"I'm Clint Barton"
"or Katniss " Clint rolled his eyes
"Natasha"
"Too dangerous to name " Natasha smirked at this
"Sam Wilson"
"Tweetie bird" "really out of all the -"
"Bucky Barnes," Bucky said, interrupting Sam "Terminator" "grow up"
"Bruce Banner" "Green machine, green bean, science bro, killer cinnamon roll."
Alice's eyes sweat around the room as if looking for something "Good eye, sweetheart," Tony said "Thor isn't here right now he's in Asgard doing whatever. You'll meet him later. How about you sit down and talk to everybody, I'll take your bags to your room. Are you hungry I'll order pizza, cheese, your favorite." And with a pad on the back, Tony left her at the mercy of The Avengers.
The room fell into a somewhat awkward silence as Alice was left standing in front of them. (Actually, it was more concern as most of them could clearly see how anxious she was a few even feared she would have an anxiety or panic attack.)
"Would you like a seat?" Pepper said, motioning to the couch. She didn't move.
"How about you tell us a bit about yourself, Do you have brains like your old man?" Happy asked playfully she immediately shook her head.
"Well, what do you do. What did you do wherever you were" Sam asked ( They still had no clue where she was homed or hidden. "Did you do anything cool?" she shook her head.
"Your friends must think you are cool coming to live with the Avengers," Clint said as she shook her head. Clint turned to Natasha "We're not cool anymore?"
"You don't have friends," Steve said, and she nodded slowly.
"where were you?" Natasha asked. Alice shrugs, she still wasn't clear on that either.
Being in the mountains for years, this girl was practically new to everything. Maybe at one point, this was all familiar to her, and she knew how to interact with people, but that was years ago, and she had long forgotten. The only person she truly knew was her father, and he wasn't really normal, so he couldn't be an example of normal human interaction or behavior for her.
Everything fell into awkward (yet concerning) silence again. It was obvious that Alice wasn't going to answer any of their questions or speak at all, for that matter. And that all their attention on her was making her uncomfortable. Clint took the lead and started ignoring her, he sat on the couch, picked up the remote, and turned on the TV. The others quickly followed, joining him in watching tv or starting conversations amongst themselves.
It took a while, but Alice eventually crept forward and took a seat in a lone chair and watched tv.
This girl was clearly not what they expected or what Tony presented to them. She was crippled with anxiety. Even in her seat now clutching a teddy bear, picking at her nails, and bouncing her leg. She did not have the confidence of a Stark. Maybe it was something from her mother, but they didn't really believe that either.
What happened to this Alice Stark?
-
" Pizza is... Here ?" Tony came back to the living room with a tower of pizzas to find his daughter seated on the alone chair by herself, quietly watching Tv. The others were on the other side of the lounge, clearly giving Alice a large amount of space. He didn't really know what to think of this.
"pizza's here," Tony said again, getting everyone's attention. He set the boxes of pizza on the coffee table Pepper got up to get paper plates and cups. "You know you can take you're backpack up, right?" he said to Alice. She looked down for a moment before she quickly removed her back and put it on the floor in front of her legs. He made her a plate and a cup of water and sat on her armrest next to her while he ate.
The other noticed how she started to fidget less in her father's presence.
"Alice, do you want to hear a funny story about your father?" Rhodey asked, she looked up at her father and then at him " You want to hear about the time he peed himself.
"To be more specific, Platpus, I've relieved myself many times"
"The time he peed himself in his suit," Tony groaned, " once upon a time, your father was drunk..."
He wanted to stop Rhodey, but the way his daughter leaned forward, the way she hung on to every word. The eagerness to learn about what her dad was like without her, what his life was like. So what if the stories were embarrassing it made her smile. The night went on with funny stories and adventures. Though Alice didn't speak much, she sure did laugh.
"so what do you think?" Tony asked Alice when the others were talking amongst themselves. " Do you like it here?" she leaned into his side she gave a small nod. And that's all he needed.
