You're the one I Dream of
Okoye was up and ready to get her day started. After her session with M'Baku, she was going to meet up with Ayo and Aneka; for some catch up time. Shuri was up and waiting to catch a ride to her lab. Okoye got the feeling; Shuri was up to something; but couldn’t take the time to figure out what.
“I’m riding in with you,” she told her. Okoye gave her a look.
“Whatever you’re planning, leave me out of it,” she warned her.
“What?” Shuri playing the innocent.
“Hmm,” Okoye said, and headed off to her appointment with M'Baku.
“King M'Baku, the general has arrived,” he was told. “Send her end.” Attuma came through the door. M’Baku panic, Okoye will be there any minute, and she can’t see him there. “Attuma; trust me when I say, this is not a good time. Please go now, and come back in a couple of hours.”
“Alright, I will return,” he was bewildered with M'Baku being so animated. But he shrugged it off, and decided to go see; if he could find the woman, from last night. No sooner than Attuma left, Okoye arrived. M'Baku felt like these two, would give him a heart attack.
“Okoye,” M'Baku walked up to give her a hug. She shook her head.
“No,” she told him. “The last time you nearly crushed the breath out of me.”
“Just like old times,” he laughed. Okoye was pressed for time; and anxious to know what he wanted with her.
“You know how the alliance has brought our two nations; Wakanda and Talokan together,” he became serious.
“I have seen a little bit, but hope to get a chance to explore more of its results,” she stated.
“I hope it’s a positive reflection for you,” he told her. “Out of it have come interactions, and they have been good on the most part.”
“And of course, some have not,” she added.
“Yes,” he confirmed. “But as I said, the good has out weighed the bad. This is where you come in. I became friends with one of the generals from Talokan, you knew him in the battles you two engaged in.” Okoye’s eyes narrowed.
“Not the one who kidnapped Shuri?” Her voice was calm, but he could hear the rage she held back. “He cost me my rank and career.” She snapped.
“Okoye, you can’t blame him for following orders,” M'Baku defending him.
“I can, and I will,” she hissed. M'Baku came from behind his desk, and paced the floor; concern on his face. “What did you want, M'Baku?” He looked at her, pondering over what he wanted to say.
“Well, I owe him something,” he told her. “I was going to ask you to help me play this prank, but I see now, that would be too much to ask of you.” Okoye thought about it, revenge served cold is the best.
“I’ll do it,” she blurted. “What is the prank?” M'Baku smiled. Phase one of his plan in affect.
Okoye met up with Ayo and Aneka, Shuri somehow invited herself. Okoye suggested this nice little vegan spot. She told them she was helping M'Baku play a prank, so, if they see her leave; just sit back and watch. They looked at her and laugh, only Shuri wasn’t buying it; as she still felt M'Baku was up to no good. Okoye observed, when she mentioned them the prank, Shuri wasn’t into it.
M’Baku enlisted Okoye to help him play a prank on Attuma. Well of course; she was more than willing to do so. He had cost her, her rank in the Dora, attack on Wakanda, and the death of their Queen. It may not have been his fault indirectly, but still he was a part of it. Alliance or not, this will start her healing process. M’Baku gets his friend back for a joke, and she gets the chance to humiliate him. So, the plan was set.
“I’m telling you Attuma, you can pick up a lot of ladies at these places. And the food is very good. I know you’re not vegetarian, but give it a try. So, how about it?” M’Baku asked him, after he had returned, and Okoye had left. She had told him where to bring Attuma, to get the prank going.
“M’Baku, right now there is only one lady I want to meet,” he expressed.
“It’s alright, if you don’t want to go. I’m heading over myself.” And M’Baku started out the door.
“Wait, I’m coming with you,” Attuma shoved pass him, and out the door.
Some time later, they arrive at the famous Vegetarian restaurant. Attuma took one look at the ‘Vegetarian food served only', sign, and a chill surged through his body, causing him to shuddered all over.
“I don’t know M'Baku,” he looked inside.
“Have I ever steered you wrong?” He asked him.
“No, so far you have been a good friend,” he expressed.
“Who knows, she could be in there at this moment.” M'Baku told him, as they entered the restaurant. And as M'Baku knew, there were plenty of women in the establishment.
Attuma had his pick of the bunch, because there were very few men present. The two of them went up to the serving line to choose their meal. Attuma had this noticeable scowl on his face, as he glared at the food, and sniffing the odor. He had picked out a soybean burger, and went to the cashier to pay for it.
Okoye had been in a corner, watching as they came in. Her eyes squinted as the one with M'Baku looked familiar, but then he would, since they fought those many years ago. But his familiarity, was from somewhere different. She got up and rushed up to them, carrying a tray of food.
“Hey, you call this vegetarian food? I want my money back,” she nudged Attuma aside, as she commences yelling at the cashier.
“But Miss, what’s wrong?” The cashier asked, a little confused.
“This is meat, not soybean, and I know soybean when I taste it.” She then turned to Attuma. He recognized her immediately, the lady from the night before. “Sir, take my advice. Don’t waste your time on this crap. You might as well go get some fast food. It’s cheaper.” She said, storming out the door. Attuma looked at M'Baku, pointing to him; and gesturing its the Lady he spoke to him about.
“What are you waiting for? Go get her.” M’Baku encouraged him. Attuma left his food on the counter, and went running after his date for the night.
“Hey, young lady, wait,” he hollered after her. She turned to look at him, and started to back away; not sure of him coming after her, full force.
“Yes?” She asked, somewhat bewildered.
“Look, I would like to thank you for helping me out back there.” He new it sounded lame, but what do you expect on the spur of the moment.
“Help you out? I don’t understand...?” Okoye was pleased to be playing him. But she still couldn’t get this nagging feeling, she had saw him beyond their engaging in battle.
“Warning me about the food.” He explained. She was more beautiful up close and personal. But he thought their was something about her, that reminded him of another person from his pass. He just couldn’t figure out who.
“Oh that?” She began to laugh. “The truth is, I’m not really a vegetarian. I was going to meet a friend there, but she never showed up; and I didn’t bring any money. It’s a little embarrassing, but....” She lowered her head in shame.
“Well, neither am I a vegan. I was convinced by a friend; I could meet some nice lady; but he was wrong. Thank you anyway.” He said, backing up; and turning around to walk away.
“Hey wait, let’s go get some real food.” She said, giving him those puppy eyes.
It didn’t take much for him to agree. They left and went walking through the market place, getting something to eat from one of the vendors. They talked about trivia things to make the time go by. Okoye found him to be nothing like, when they had their encounters years ago. He was quite sweet, and very attentive.
They walked to a park area, where music was playing. He took off his jacket, and spread it on the ground, for her to sit on. He wore this black Tee shirt; that accentuated every bit of his upper torso. His arms were like logs, and biceps were huge as boulders. She thanked him. And as pleasant as their time was, she had to remember. She was on a mission, and a prank to fulfill.
