"Hey Sam!" Kara says excitedly. "Hey Kara, Hey Lena! Thank you so much for agreeing to do this. Alex invited me last minute, I'm surprised you all didn't want to go! It's an ocean cruise!" Sam invites the two inside.
Lena and Kara giggle as they walk up the stairs to Sams room. Alex secretly had a thing for Sam but never told anyone. It was obvious to Kara and Lena that Sam also had a thing for Alex but they both decided they would just wait for the two to work it out. They also both decided the reason they weren't invited was because Alex was finally going to make a move on Sam.
"Lena and I just .. aren't big on water." Kara says.
"Kara that was the best thing you could think of? I own two yachts," Lena whispers. "I'm sorry I don't know many thousand dollar things you own!"
"Well thank you so much, the sitter will be here tomorrow morning at 10 so you guys don't have to watch Ruby for the whole 6 days. I'm just warning you, she is having some kind of attitude these days, maybe it's just the teenager in her," Sam says and rolls her eyes before asking, "Do you think.. I should bring my green dress or my yellow dress?"
"Yellow for sure, Alex loves that dress on you!" Kara says and Sam strokes her hand through a piece of her hair. "Really?" "She talked about you after wearing it non stop for days, you should wear it!" Sam blushes and Lena nudges her. "You know .. you could finally just tell Alex how you feel?" "Lena! We promised we wouldn't-" "No no .. it's ok. I think I will, I don't think I do a very good job at hiding it anyway." "You don't, no offense." Kara play tackles Lena and the pair fall onto Sams bed. Sam puts the yellow dress in her suitcase and zips it up. She lifts it to the floor and puts on her backpack.
"Ruby is in her room, call me if anything happens or you need anything." "We will, enjoy your trip!"Kara says as Sam exits the room. "Enjoy Alex!" Lena yells and Sam rolls her eyes.
Kara and Lena get up from the floor to exit the room and walk Sam to the door. "Ruby! Honey, I'm leaving! Come say bye." Rubys door opens and she steps out.
Ruby looked different from the last time Lena saw her, older? It had been awhile.
"Bye Mom!" Ruby yells and walks right back inside her room. "Teenagers am I right. I'll see you both later." "TEXT US!" Kara says as Sam pulls her suitcase out the door. "Will do!"
Kara walks into the living room and throws herself onto Sams couch. "I'm hungry." "You're always hungry," Lena responds. "Do you think Ruby is hungry to, you could cook something?" "Why me?" Lena asks annoyed, "I'm always doing the cooking everytime cooking needs to be done." "Fine I'll cook, I kinda enjoy it anyway. I don't mind, ask Ruby if she wants to eat and I'll get started right away!"
"Ruby?" Lena knocks on the door and there is no response. "Ruby may I come in?" She knocks again.
"Sure."
Lena enters Rubys room. It's pink and overall pretty. She has a Supergirl poster on her wall and she sees a little pink book on Ruby's bed. "Kara is going to be cooking do you want anything." "Sure." Ruby replies and goes back to looking at her phone.
Lena sighs at the one word responses she has been getting. "Would it be ok if I ate in my room?" Lena nods, "You can call me down and I'll go get-" "No no it's fine I will bring it when it's ready." "Thank you Lena." "It's no problem," she replies and closes the door.
"Since when did Ruby grow up so much. She's hardly talking to me anymore," Lena says once down stairs trying to hide her disappointment. "I'm sure she's just tired or maybe upset about Sam going away? How about we all watch a movie downstairs in 45 minutes?" Kara says and flips the Mac and cheese with a spatula while Lena isn't paying attention. "That actually sounds like a good idea! Is the food almost ready?"
Suddenly the smoke detectors go off and Kara begins to fan it. "It's fine it's just a little smoke," Kara says reassuringly. Lena walks inside the kitchen and sees a burnt dish of Mac and cheese. "EHH EHHH EHHH!" Lena coughs and Kara throws the frying pan into the sink.
"KARA, were you cooking Mac and cheese, in a frying pan!" Lena exclaims and throws her head into her hands.
"Lena, Kara are you two alright?" Ruby asks entering the kitchen. "Kara.. are you cooking Mac and cheese in a frying pan?" The fire alarm still going of makes Ruby cover her ears. "I, I thought it would work! I seasoned the pan and everything!" Kara says defensively.
Ruby laughed and finally Lena did to. Kara fans the smoke detector some more and the alarm finally seizes. "Glad to see you guys think this is funny!" Lena begins to cough and so does Ruby. "Kara .. EHH! EHH!.. throw that stuff away I am not feeding this poor child that!" Ruby laughs and Lena smiles.
"This is why I don't let you cook, I forgot," Lena says and Kara blushes. Lena, Ruby, and Kara all sit down on the couch.
"I'm sorry Lee, I really thought that was going to taste good." Lena giggles and Kara embarrassed leans on her. She rubs her Kara's shoulder, "It's ok darling, you .. tried."
Ruby laughs some more and Kara sighed. "I think I'll make us some chicken tenders in the oven," Ruby says and stands up. "Do you want help?" Kara asks and Ruby try's to hide more laughter. "No no.. thank you Kara."
"She seems fine," Kara says and Lena nods. "Maybe she was just in a bad mood earlier?" Lena suggests and takes her phone out.
"Let's call Sam!" Lena says and Kara shakes her head. "What if she's about to kiss Alex and we ruin it." "Kara.. you watch to many dman movies... but fine. I'll text her."
Lena: Heyy Sam how's it going?
Lena: Did you and Alex kiss yet?
"Foods ready!" Ruby yells from the kitchen and Kara gets up to eat. "I'm starving, cooking takes up a lot of energy!" "More like burning," Lena grumbles under her breath. "I HEARD THAT!"
"Can we eat on the couch and watch a movie?" Ruby asks and Kara nods. "This food is amazing Ruby!" Kara says shoving her mouth.
Ruby chuckles as she brings Lenas plate to the couch. Rubys phone goes of as Lena eats and she picks it up instantly from her pocket. She smiles at the screen but puts the phone back down for awhile.
Lena watches her suspiciously and partly curious. After about a minute Ruby picks up the phone and types. Instantly she's gets a notification and she laughs.
"Who you texting?" Lena asks and Ruby instantly puts the phone down. "No one..just.. T mobile," Ruby answers and Lena raises her eyebrow, "You text T mobile?" "Yeah.. uhh just to keep them updated on.. my phone. I went in a few weeks ago to get it fixed."
Lena nods knowing Ruby is lying but she won't push it. "Anyway what movie do you want to watch?" Ruby shrugs and turns on the tv. Kara joins the two on the couch. "How about.... Taylor Swifts documentary?" "Im down!" Kara says and leans back on the couch.
"Since when were you into Taylor Swift?" Lena asks and Ruby scratches her neck, "I..always have been." Lena slowly nods and turns to Kara who just shrugs. "What's your favorite song by her?" Lena asks and Ruby looks around before answering, "uhh that one song .. Shake You Off?" Lena looks at Kara again and she just shrugs. "Isn't it called Shake It Off?" Ruby just nods, "Yeah yeah that's what I said."
The documentary comes on and 2 minutes in Kara is asleep. Lena honestly found it somewhat interesting but Ruby wouldn't know, she was on her phone the whole time. Occasionally Lena would look over at Ruby when she laughed at her phone but other then that she tried to focus on the film.
When it ended Lena turned to Ruby to ask, "Did you like it." Ruby doesn't answer instead she is staring at her phone screen, "Ruby?" "Huh.. what? Sorry." "I asked if you liked the film." "Oh .. I did, I'm pretty tired. I'm going to head up to bed, night Lena."
Lena try's not to feel disappointed, Ruby just doesn't seem as interested in her as she was a few years ago. If anything she seemed more interested in her phone, and whoever she was texting.
Lena heard Ruby taking a shower and decided to make some hot chocolate for her. She always enjoyed hot chocolate back when they used to talk. Once it was ready she brought it back into Ruby's room. Lena put it on the desk and sat on her bed. She felt a hard substance and reached under the covers. It was the little pink book from earlier.
Lena knew she shouldn't snoop, but she was curious as to what Ruby was doing these days.
Dear Diary today was a bit different then other days. I got home from school on time for once and when I did I noticed this girl named Emerald leaving the house really close to mine. I'd seen her at school before but this time she-
Lena quickly closed the book and sat it to the side. "No no no, how would you feel if Ruby read through your diary," Lena says aloud to herself. "Gosh get it together Lena Luthor!"
Ruby walks in and Lena puts on a smile. "Hey Lena what are you doing in here?" "I brought hot chocolate, and I wanted to talk to you."
Ruby turns to see the warm liquid and instantly sips some. "I have been needing some hot chocolate!" Rubys phone dings, she puts the cup down, and she smiles. Lena rolls her eyes before it all clicks, well somewhat clicks.
"RUBY! Are you talking to a boy?" Ruby blushes and puts her phone down, "No.. I'm not." Lena raises her eyebrow, "Then who have you been smiling about all night?"
"Do you promise not to tell my mom?" Ruby asks and Lena nods. "I'm.. talking to my crush from school kind of?" Lena smiles, "I KNEW IT! What does he look like? Details I want details!" Ruby laughs and Lenas enthusiasm and joins her on the bed. They lay under the covers together and Ruby finally begins to talk.
"Well.. this part you also can't tell my mom." Lena nods again, "This is girl talk, it stays between me and you." "I'm talking to ..a girl named Emerald.." "Wait wait hold on? I never knew you liked girls?" Ruby figited with her hands, "Is that .. okay?"
Lena laughed, "OF COURSE ITS OK! Wait.. did you think I wouldn't be ok with it?" Ruby waits a few seconds before answering, "I mean everyone around here except Alex is straight and even still Kara reacted kinda weird to it-" "Kara's gay to." "WHAT REALLY?" "She's pansexual but she's not from ea- urban areas so she doesn't label herself. She just believes in dating whoever she wants."
"Wow, didn't see that coming." "I'm .. also a lesbian so.. I don't know how I could be homophobic." "WAIT WHAT THATS WHY YOU AND KARA ARE SO CUTE TOGETHER!" Lena blushes, "What?" "I knew you were more then friends but I didn't think you guys were into women. Now I know for a fact you guys are in love!" "I don't know about all that.. did you also not know your mom is on a date with Alex?"
Rubys jaw drops and the emotion on her face changes from shcoked to annoyed. "Why DIDNT she tell me!" Lena rubbed Rubys shoulder and felt her become less tense. "She won't even admit to me she has a crush on Alex! But I think Alex invited her on a date, and that's why we weren't invited." Ruby nods.
"Don't think you got out of telling me about Emerald,. Boy, girl, non-binary, I still need to know!" Ruby giggles and Lena hugs her. "Well Emerald.. she has green eyes.. and she has the prettiest black hair ever. Her skin is so smooth, she is so so smart she's into computer programming, oh oh and she listens to Taylor swift. So much like it's crazy, she's also a reputation Stan!" "So that's why we watched that documentary!" Ruby sheepishly nods, "She's not my favorite but if Emeralds happy I am to."
Lena puts her hand on her heart, "Aww only you could make a teenage crush sweet." Ruby blushed and Lena sighed. "When I was a teen all we did were things that required no words. Me and this girl named Claire? I think so or Clara used to sneak into a barn and make out for hours!" "EWWW! Lena!" Ruby squirms and Lena laughs.
"There's this dance coming up, and I think I wanna invite her? But I don't know how to ask her it never goes well, everytime I try-" "Pssshhh! It cannot be that bad."
"Hey Emerald, what class do you have next." Ruby asks and Emerald frowns. "History, .. and while I'm a Hamilton fan I'm not tight like that with Columbus." They both laugh and Emerald closes her locker. "I was .. actually curious about something and I wanted to ask you.. a question?" Emerald raised her eyebrow, "Ask away."
Ruby felt her face become hot and she used her hands to fan it. "You ok?" Emerald asks and grabs Rubys hand. Ruby blushes and try's to speak again. "I..I just remembered I have to get to class, Bye emerald!"
"Oh wow," Lena says and giggles. "That's Uh-" "Bad.. I know! What should I do?"
Kara bursts through the door, "I know exactly, what you should do Ruby." "How long .. have you been listening?" Ruby asks and Kara shrugs. "I have super hearing." Ruby giggles and Lena shakes her head.
"I Don't want to miss girl time, scoot over Lena stop hogging Rubys bed!" Lena rolls her eyes and scoots over.
"Ok so Ruby! Wait wait let's set the scene!" "Oh no," Lena says and rolls her eyes. When Kara gets really into this stuff it's not good. "Oh yes!" Ruby laughs and Kara clears her throat. "So this is what will happen!"
Hey Emerald" Ruby says excitedly. "Hey Ruby what's going on?" "Nothing but your going to have to close your eyes."
"Almost there, two more steps!" Once they are outside Ruby takes her hands off Emeralds eyes. "Oh my gosh!" Emerald exclaims as a jet in the sky writes, "Will you go to the dance with me"
"YES! I'd love nothing more then to be with you!"
"Kara wait..where am I going to get a jet?" Ruby asks and Kara shrugs. "See now I have an even better idea," Lena says and smiles.
Ruby and Emerald lay down on the yacht looking up at the stars.
"Lena where am I getting a yacht! This is crazier then Kara's idea!" Ruby exclaims and Kara smiles triumphantly. Lena rolls her eyes before saying, "Ok how about a note?" Ruby smiles and so does Kara. "Now that sounds nice.. and affordable." The three laugh and Ruby turns on her nightlight to get some paper.
"What do I say?" Ruby asks and Kara opens her mouth to give suggestions but Lena cuts her off. "Just speak from the heart, say what you wanna say and what you truly feel. Don't hold back, we just have to .. get over the fear first. If not we waste all our time when the perfect girl is right next to us." Ruby nods and Kara hugs Lena. "Aww that was so sweet!"
Lena blushes and Ruby smirks, once she is done writing the letter she seals it up and puts it in her bag.
"I think you should actually take some of your own advice." Ruby says once shes back in the bed. Kara is next to her sleeping and Lena who is half awake mumbles to herself, "Maybe I will."
"Ruby.. Karraa.. Lena .. wake up. I'm back!"
Kara and Lena slowly get up while Ruby sleeps on the bed. "Sam, hey!" Kara whisper yells. Lena motions for them to go outside the room and Sam opens the door.
"What happened? Why are you guys back so soon?" Lena asks. "Oh .. it's a long story but was Ruby ok?" Kara smiles, "She was an angel."
“I saw you texted but you never responded when I texted back. You gals must have been having fun,” Sam says and Kara nods and suddenly her phone goes off.
“Oh dang it! I have 71 messages, I have got to get to work. I’ll see you guys later,” Kara says and quickly rushes for the door. Lena grabs her hand and turns Kara around, she stares into her blue eyes.
Lena leans forward and plants a quick kiss on Kara’s cheek. Kara’s cheeks turn cherry red, and Sams eyes are wide. “Call me when you get home?” Lena says and raises and eyebrow. Kara puts her hand over the cheek Lena kissed and smiles with the biggest grin Lena has ever seen.
Unable to say anything Kara nods and runs for the door.
Lena now allows herself to blush and Sam nudges her. “What was that?” Sam asks and Lena just shrugs. “Im taking my own advice? Anyways come on, you have to tell me all about your date with Alex!”
