Captain
Chapter 2
Captain
Captain Steve Rogers, also known as Captain America. He was found in the ice and when he woke up, the world had changed drastically. He had been revived now for about 6 months. Slowly getting used to todays world. He lives in New York, has an apartment and feels like he fits in a little better with each month that goes by.
Shield has been kind enough to give him a private gym, which is where he spends most of his time. It's probably more of ploy to keep him around in hopes that he will join back and start working for them. He wasn't sure yet and keeps giving them the same answer of, "Im still thinking." Though that was starting to slowly change with a certain person he had been spending time with.
He was down in his gym around midnight like usual and he couldn't sleep.... like usual. His dreams plagued with the past. Lost in thought, he didnt realize that someone was standing behind him until they cleared their throat. He spun around quickly, recognizing Agent Fury and Agent Hill.
"Little bit late for a social call isn't it?" Steve asked with a raised brow. Fury stepped closer, "This isn't a social call." That got Steve's attention. "What's going on?"
"We have a mission that we need your experience on, and your abilities." Fury stated, while handing Steve a file. He just looked at the folder and went to hand it back, "Im not ready yet. Im sure you have other...." Hill cut Steve off, "It's Agent Warner, Steve." She said quietly. She knew that the two had gotten closer. He froze at that statement and his heart stuttered.
Emma Warner, or Sapphire, as Shield calls her. She was at first sent to help him adjust, more like babysitting him, but she was also the first person that didnt treat him any differently, didnt treat him like a super hero. He didnt realize why until a little later, but that made him admire her more. She typically came around once a week or so to hang out with him. Showed him how to use electronics and helped him adapt to this new environment he woke up in and adventured around New York.
In the last month those visits had become more frequent and he was starting to feel butterflies in his stomach while she was around. They had even started texting each other throughout the day.
He still laughs about the day he learned of her abilities. They were boxing one day when she finally had enough of him for going easy on her. He had told her that he didnt want to hurt her, especially with his enhanced strength.
Flashback
"Stop pulling your punches Rogers!" Emma yelled at him. She pushed him back, both hands on his chest and shoved. "I dont want to hurt you. Im stronger than your average man Emma." Steve had responded. He couldnt hurt this woman. She was quickly becoming one of the most important people in his life in just the short amount of time they had spent together. It took her a while to even convince him to spare with her, but he had witnessed her fighting with some other agents one day and realized that she was an amazing fighter and could hold her own. He would also sometimes catch himself staring at her during her workouts and then would blush when she would catch him looking. But he couldn't help it, she was so strong and beautiful.
They had been training together for a few months when Emma realized she was starting to feel more for the super soldier. He was sweet and caring and a gentleman at everything. They had been getting closer but still kept things light between them, most because of how reserved Steve was with his "old" ways. More recently though she started to feel anxious and like she was lying to him because she had been keeping her powers from him, not wanting to freak him out even more than he already was with waking up 70 years in the future.
Emma paused with their sparing and closed her eyes and took in a deep breath. She wanted Steve to trust her. She didnt know why, but the more time she spent with him, the more he was becoming important to her. So she decided to let him in on her secret. That she was an enhanced, as shield called them.
"Steve, you're not going to hurt me. I promise." She spoke softely at him, and he was already shaking his head at her. "You dont know that Emma. I could accidently put more force into a punch or kick and slam you against the wall. I could seriously hurt you!" He said frustrated at her. This was an argument they had started to have more recently. Suddenly her eyes flashed a neon blue color, she brought her hands up and created two force field spheres around her hands and laid a punch into him. He flew back out of the boxing ring and hit the wall with a grunt. Sliding down he ended up kneeling, placing a hand on his chest letting out a deep breath.
"Holy Shit Steve! I am so sorry!" Emma said as she ran to him. Placing her hand on the side of his face, "Steve, are you okay?" He glanced up at her and his eyes were wide. Her eyes were back to their normal deep expressive brown. "How..." he paused, "how did you do that?" Emma stood up quickly and backed away from him. He stood up just as fast and reached out and grabbed her hand gently, "hey hey.. its okay. Just tell me what that was?" He said.
"Ummm, I am an enhanced. A human that has extra abilities or powers. They think I had the mutant gene already, but the accident I was in kind of kicked them into gear." Emma explained. Steve looking at her still holding her hand. He was rubbing his thumb to the back of her hand but he didnt seem to realize he was doing it. They walked over to the bench near the boxing ring and sat down, "I was in a explosion when i was very little. I hardly remember it, and i was in a coma for a while. They think the force fields and healing was already a mutation I had because i survived the explosion, but when i woke up things were mostly normal. Later on I then started to show signs that i wasnt the same. One day I created my first force field that I can remember and it just progressed from there." Emma added. Steve was looking at her in awe. He couldn't believe how extraordinary this woman was.
"So what all can you do? Thats why you kept saying that i couldnt hurt you." Steve laughed to himself. This beautiful dame just got better and better Steve thought to himself. And its someone that really understands him, even more than anyone else could.
Emma smiled at his enthusiasm to learn more about her, happy that he didnt seem to be repulsed or freaked out. "Some is similar to you. I have enhanced senses such as strength, speed, reflexes that sort of thing. The others, i can create force fields around myself or around others. I can also produce energy blasts from my hands and heal others. Although the healing depletes my energy if its bad enough. Simple scratches and things dont affect me, but larger injuries can knock me unconscious." Emma reached down and held Steves hand in hers, she had noticed the raw knuckles from his daily punching bag hits. She placed her other hand over top of his and Steve noticed the light under her palm and felt warmth on his hand for a moment. Looking down as she pulled her hand away, saw that his once red knuckles were healed.
Looking up at Emma with a small smile of thanks she smiled softely back at him. Suddenly she smirked at him, "So, how about that rematch now?"
"You're on Warner." He chuckled back.
Steve glanced back up at Fury, "She was supposed to be back tomorrow." Steve muttered. It was for their normal meet up and she always showed up right after a mission, promising that she would check in after every mission she was sent on. This one particular had made him nervous with how long she was going to be gone for. "What happened?" He asked them, taking the folder over to a bench and sat so he could open up and look through it. It looked like it was mission over at a deserted Russian nuclear base.
"She was sent in with a team so she could break in and wipe their servers. It was a simple terrorist group that was starting to gain some ground, and they were in an area that the government technically couldn't go. So we loaned out some of our agents. More of a special black ops team."
Steve was quiet, looking through the folder. He stopped on a picture of Emma. His gut squeezing. "Agent Warner was captured about 2 hours ago. We received word from her bravo team that he powers weren't working." That caused Steve to snap his gaze up in shock. "We don't know what they did to negate her powers, but its isn't good. She was able to active her SOS tracker and it hasn't been destroyed yet. But we need someone that can get in. Someone that is a little more durable than the average man. Because if they could mute her powers, we are not dealing with a normal terrorist group. This is something different." Fury added. "I know you said you are not ready yet.." Steve cut him off though with a look of fierce determination. "Im in." Steve said in a firm tone. But then quietly added, "I cant lose her."
"Well Captain, lets go. And we may have something that will help with things." Fury added with a smirk.
Arriving on the helipad at shield, Steve Rogers walked out onto the landing in his red white and blue uniform. The colors a little more muted than the original bright colors. And on his back was his trusted shield that had become another part of him during his time in the war. Shield had it ready for when he decided to join again.
Walking out to the quinjet that he guessed they would be taking, he noticed two other people standing on the ramp. He recognized Agent Romanoff immediately from pictures that Emma had shown him. So his only guess was that the other guy was Agent Barton. These were Emma's team and her family. He stepped up on the ramp, offering his hand to both of them in greeting, "Captain." They both spoke to him. Nodding his head at them, "I didnt know that you both were called in." Barton spoke up, "Coulson called us and told us what happened. It wasnt an option to not go get our girl back."
"Who ever took her had prior knowledge of her, so they have to be taken out." Romanoff added. Steve looked at her and could see the calm façade she had going on was cracking. This was hurting them both. Nat then looked at Steve with a smile, "She will be glad that you decided to come." She said softly. Nat knew of the fondness that the two shared for each other. Emma had called Nat more than once and confided in her about her growing feelings for the soldier. Usually Nat would try to turn her away from feelings, but she saw the two of them together, and they way they moved and complemented each other was a once in a lifetime opportunity. So she fully supported the match.
Steve took a deep breath and steeled himself for what was to come. "We ready to go?" He asked. They both looked at each other then at him. "Lets go Captain." Barton said. The two spies taking seats at the pilots seats, Steve taking a seat behind them. Steve pulled out his cellphone and was looking at pictures between the two. Once Emma had shown him how to use the phone and to take pictures, his phone was filled with them.
"Please be okay....." He whispered to himself.
