It had been almost an hour since the incident. Marlene Mckinnon sat at the top of the astronomy tower. She heard footsteps and quickly jolted around, only to be met with her girlfriend, Dorcas Meadows. Marlene quickly wiped her tears away with the back of her hand. Dorcas just smiled sadly at her, before joining her on the floor.
“It might be a bit too early to stargaze” Dorcas joked. Marlene let out a small snort in response. She pulled Dorcas towards her, wrapping her arms around her. Dorcas lightly laughed at the sudden affection, “What’s going on, Marls?”
Marlene sniffed before starting, “I- I don’t know. That just gave me a bit of a scare.”
Dorcas looked up at her, “C’mon, you can talk to me. I know you must have some other shit going on” -- she booped her on the nose -- “in that pretty head of yours.”
Marlene breathed out a small laugh, “Well you saw what happened. I hit Sirius’s brother on the head. I sent someone to the hospital wing. He was falling, what if James hadn’t-”
Dorcas cut her off by pushing their lips together. Marlene leaned into the kiss, but Dorcas soon pulled away. “Marls, none of that is your fault. It was an accident. It could have been anyone who hit the bludger that way.”
Marlene nodded, but started to twist her ring back in forth, a sign that she didn’t believe Dorcas.
Dorcas sighed, “It’s about as much my fault as it is yours.” Marlene seemed taken back at this, confusion spreading across her face, brows furrowing together.
“How is it your fault?”
The left corner of Dorcas’s mouth turned down for a moment (something that happens when she feels sad), “This morning, in the common room, Regulus filled up a bottle of water. I have a similar looking bottle, and I took it.” Marlene still seemed very confused, not understanding where the connection is.
“I took his water bottle, and Barty kept saying that he looked sick the whole time. I knew in the back of my mind that it was likely dehydration. I knew during the whole game, but didn’t say anything. I thought it was stupid, until he stopped moving, and the bludger hit him.”
Marlene still had a soft look of confusion, but it was more of a sad confusion than truly not being able to understand. “Cas, that’s barely anything, it’s not your fault at all, you didn’t mean to. I’m the one who hit the bloody bludger towards him.”
Dorcas looked up at Marlene, her deep brown eyes almost looking like an amber red in the sunlight, “You didn’t mean to either.”
Marlene realized she had fallen into Dorcas’s trap, “But I-” She was once again cut off by a soft kiss.
“Nope. It’s not your fault and that’s that.” Dorcas said, a soft upturn on her mouth.
Marlene accepted that she had lost the argument and smiled back, “Whatever, shut up and kiss me.” She leaned down, but Dorcas stopped her.
“I just did.”
Marlene snorted, “Oh please, that was a peck.”
Dorcas pretended to look offended, “A peck?”
The blonde rolled her eyes, “Yes, a peck.” Before Dorcas could respond, Marlene smashed their lips together. (Into a real kiss, not a peck). She deepened the kiss, and let her hands hold onto Dorcas’s fluffy, soft curls.
When they finally pulled apart, they touched their foreheads together, looking into each other’s eyes, smiling. They stayed like that for a moment. Marlene could only hear and feel Dorcas’s breathe on her face.
Marlene widened her smile even more, “I could search my life through and through and never find someone like you.”
