Chapter 3
Lorna’s POV:
Dinner is silent. No one dares say a word. At least that’s what I think until Pietro speaks up. “What are we going to do about it?” Everyone stops. “Do about what?” Father asks. “Oh, I don’t know. About the fact that Atlantis tried to invade out of the blue and was completely ready to wipe us off the map, or the fact that a mystery woman appeared out of thin air, took down an entire army in seconds, using a power that we have never seen before, then abruptly disappearing again before any of us have the chance to even comprehend what is happening? Cuz, I feel like there should at least be a discussion going on about that!” Despite Pietro’s outburst, father kept his composure. “I am looking into this ‘Mystery Woman’ of ours. As for Atlantis, I’ve already contacted and informed the UN of their attempted Invasion and they have our full support if they choose to attack again.” Pietro still looks unsatisfied. “And what about Namor?” he asks. “I’ve been trying to reach Atlantis as well, but that boyfriend of yours won’t answer.” Pietro’s face fills with embarrassment and rage at the implication. “We were never a thing and you should know not to-“I don’t get the chance to finish “Know what, my son? I would advise you not to make any statements you can’t back.” Father rises from the table. “And as for your temper, I’d suggest learning to control it otherwise it may be the death of you.” With that, father exits the room. Leaving me and Pietro there to process the argument. “What was that about?” I asked after what felt like an eternity. “I don’t know. There’s just something about her. I feel like we should be doing more to find her.” Pietro moves to a different side of the room. “Like what?” I ask. “I said I don’t know.” He responds. “Oh, I think you do. You wouldn’t have made a scene like that unless you had a reason.” I cross my arms. “Come on, you know me sis. I’d make a scene for a stick of gum.” He said while sporting his signature smirk. “No that’s not what this is about. You’re my brother, Pietro, I know you better than that. What’s really going on?” The room became so silent you could hear a pin drop. “When we were on the beach, the woman turned towards me and we made eye contact for a second. And in that second,, I felt this strange bond with the woman, like I had known her my whole life.” He finally looks up at me.” I need to find this woman Lorna. There’s just something about her. It’s not love, not in that sense. It’s more like I need to find my best friend.” He looks down at the floor. “I know that doesn’t make any sense, but can you at least pretend to understand.” I pause for a second. I walk up to him and grab his hands. “Fine Pietro. I’ll pretend to understand, for your sake” he looks up at me and smiles. “Let’s go find this girl” I say.
Eriks POV:
Stupid, self-centered boy. He thinks he knows everything. Who is he to tell me how to run my Kingdom? When did he become like this? I stormed down the halls of my Palace, heading to my private study. When I arrived, I took a seat in my chair. I sat there for a moment, not sure what to make of myself. I was still so angry. “Another evening brooding session I see.” I internally sigh. I forgot he was there. "Let me guess. Regretting being a father, again?” I look down at the chess board Infront of me and let out a breath of laughter. "Perhaps. But what would you know?" I ask. "Nothing, but I do know this. Never get attached to anything. Your enemies will use that against you. You already knew that but that didn't stop you from making the spawn." he pauses and I move a piece on the board. "Why did you do that?" He asks. "Their pawns, everyone knows they are sacrificed fir-" he cuts me off. "I mean why did you have children?" I say nothing and just stare at the chess board. There is the saying 'the room was so quiet you could cut through it with a knife.' I think that knife just stabbed me. "I thought-" I extend my hand to move a piece but decided against it. "I thought that maybe, they would turn out like their mother." I'm fighting back tears. I'm not going to let that beast see me cry. "How were you sure they wouldn't turn out like you?" I move another piece. "I wasn't" I reply "Is that why you ignored them? ha. I guess they can't turn out like you if they don't know what you're like." I feel my anger start to take hold. I take a deep breath. I knew he was trying to get under my skin. I can't let him win. "It was for the best." I say, not sure if I'm talking to him or myself. "Whatever you need to tell yourself to sleep at night." He comments "And what would you have done?" Emotion slips into my voice. "If you were in my position, what would you do?" I asked him. "You and I would have had different goals for raising those kids." He stated "Then pretend you had my goal. What would you do?" There was a pause. "I would show them how to be a good person, not expect them to know." There's the knife again. I get up and begin to leave. "Checkmate" the voice says from behind. "We'll see" I say as the door closes.
Wanda’s POV:
I can’t believe he’s still coming. I don’t know how much more clear I can make myself. I burst through the front door of my house and stare up at the sky. “F*ck off Vision!” I scream. “But we are meant to be together!” he yells back while offering a bouquet of flowers. I swear to God. “Vision, that’s not how it works! Nowadays, people choose who they go on dates with. That ain’t you anymore!” I say, more than annoyed. “But Wanda- “Vision says, sounding like a begging child. “No vision and if you try again, I’ll have you wiped from reality.” Vision sighs and flies off with a disappointed look on his face and I think to myself “I have terrible taste in men.”
