Chapter 21

Minji didn’t expect the entire meeting chamber to be loud, but it was. The king had a tired expression on his face as did Yoohyeon. It was Minji’s first-ever meeting in the official room, and she had no idea how the two managed it every single day. It was almost as if no one agreed on anything…

“Your majesty! It’s a little biased to have the one forcing your hand with the law being changed… Be of attendance…” One of the elders frowned.

“She will be the future queen, why not have her listen in on the law that will determine if she takes the throne or not?” the king chuckled.

“What law?” Minji frowned.

“Father’s been arguing with the idiots about turning the binding law over,” Yoohyeon explained.

“Princess it is quite rude to continue to refer to us as idiots,” Another member growled.

“When you use your brains for something other than disapproving of my theories and strategies, then I will respect your titles,” Yoohyeon snarled.

“You’ve been trying to turn the law?” Minji asked her father.

“Yes, it’s been nothing but a giant circle at this point…” He sighed.

“Can’t you just veto them?” Yoohyeon sighed.

“Oh, I like that,” the king smiled.

Another argument erupted in the chamber, causing Minji to groan at how unproductive the entire thing was. She wanted to snap their necks and appoint new people. If they were like this with turning laws, then how were they with new laws? How horrible were they with everything else? Was this why her father hated the meetings?

“Father… I think you should veto them… Not because it will favor me… But because look at them…” Minji whispered. “Are they like this with everything?” She frowned.

“Everything,” Yoohyeon sighed while rubbing her temples.

It was another five minutes before Minji took her father’s gavel and slammed it against its little podium. The entire hall fell quiet, looking at her with wide eyes.

“This is ridiculous. You call yourself a parliament but can’t seem to get your own heads screwed on long enough to actually help my father rule his kingdom. What were to happen if we were in the middle of a war? Every little second counts within decisions, if you acted just like this with every little decision, we would be dead!” She shouted. “All because you can’t sit there and figure out what is actually best for this kingdom,” She glared. “It’s shameful that you all act this way. No wonder the kingdom hasn’t progressed in generations. You’re all continuously stuck in your own asses. Liking the simplicity of the world you live in. Well, I hate it.” Minji growled.

“Settle Minji,” her father warned.

“No! You shouldn’t have to deal with their idiocy! They’re parliament members. Not some children who can’t seem to figure out anything! It’s shameful on them and it's embarrassing to you,” She scoffed before sitting back down.

Yoohyeon bit the inside of her cheek, glancing at the different members before her father. The silence was a little deafening until a small murmur started. Then one was brave enough to speak.

“Then what do you believe we should do then?” One of them scoffed.

“I believe you should all be terminated from your positions so we can bring in new people who know their heads from their asses,” Minji muttered.

“Your majesty!”

“How dare she!”

“Such language!”

The king couldn’t help but chuckle, shaking his head before hitting the gavel again.

“My daughter is correct. You’re nothing but a bunch of argumentative idiots. Now, I understand your concerns about the throne being taken by the eldest princess. My concerns are your concerns, however, my daughters will never unbind themselves from these alphas. These alphas have shown high qualities of protection as well as loyalty to not only the princesses but their kingdom as well. As I have stated before, the laws are a tad outdated as the princess has entertained suitors and found herself within an alpha. There were no objections to her binding and no objections to her status. Which means there should be no objections to the law being turned to allow her to rule solely on her own, or to divide the chair with her sister.” The king spoke elegantly, making his point for Minji.

The princess was shocked. Yoohyeon? Not so much. She heard the points before and knew her father was defending both of them.

“We have one pup in our midst already. Showing clear promise of being an omega, correct?” The king looked to Yoohyeon, watching her nod her head. “Her bottom teeth came in first, correct?”

“Yes,” Yoohyeon answered.

“See? Nothing to worry about,” the king smiled. “Now, I’ll ask again… Are there any objections to the law being turned?” he asked.

Dinner was quiet, save for the little noises Gahyeon made while sitting next to Bora. Siyeon stayed in her favorite spot, feeling Minji’s fingers thread through her hair before she caught the scent of chicken. She nearly hit her head on the bottom of the table before peeking out to see Minji already taking a bite.

“Down there,” Minji smiled, pointing at the plate that was waiting for Siyeon. The princess knew how much she loved chicken and it was a rare dish to have, so she made sure to get the alpha her own plate this time.

Siyeon pulled the dish under the table with her and couldn’t help but feel giddy at the sight alone. She took careful bites, making sure not to choke this time. It was just as delicious as before and everything about it just made her incredibly happy. Almost as happy as her binding day, but she didn’t want to really compare things to that.

“So I hear Minji is already doing a fine job nipping the parliament in the rear?” The queen spoke, catching Siyeon’s attention.

“She did. She’ll be a fine ruler,” the king chuckled.

“All of this because they’re annoying… Right?” The queen smiled at her daughter.

“Yes, I couldn’t stand it, Mother,” Minji chuckled.

“But the law will be turned, she will be able to take the throne without any issues.”

Siyeon smiled at the sentence. Minji would be able to be queen without being unbound. Oh, it was a happy dinner now. A happy meal. The chicken somehow tasted even better with those words being said.
