cant take my eyes off of you
"Ahh, Gayatri.." "Yeah, Gayatri." You mumbled back, rubbing your eyes as you looked at the book in your hand. "Please, can you just pay attention? This is important!" "What do you think I should give Gayatri when I ask her out?" "Pavitr!" He looked at you, bewildered. You just shoved the book at him, pointing at the material. "Read. You can worry about Gayatri later."
"Should I give her a lotus?" "A what?" "A lotus, [Y/N]! I'm shocked you don't know what one is!" Pavitr said, mostly in disbelief, not even paying attention to the book in his lap anymore. "You've never said you like lotuses." You point out, and Pavitr leans closer to you. "They are very pretty, so I thought I would give one to Gayatri!" "Yeah, and I guess they have a lot of symbolism tied to them. Still, maybe just..think about it." "Don't worry! I will." He smiles at you, placing a hand on your shoulder before rearranging himself to be comfortable. You felt yourself suck in a breath as he pressed against you, claiming it was most comfortable.
"Gayatri said yes!" WHAT?!" You would be lying if you said you didn't expect this, but it still shocked you to hear that Pavitr was officially with Gayatri. "I mean..congratulations." You cleared your throat and looked away from him, trying to hide how your face scrunched up. Pavitr only looked at you before nudging you. "Don't look so sad, I'll still have time for you!"
The first time you met Gayatri didn't go as well as Pavitr thought it'd go, noticing how your face was stuck in a frown whenever you were near the both of them or Gayatri. "Do they not like me?" "No, no! I'm sure he loves you! [Y/N]'s just.." He takes another look at you, examining how you're hunched and trying to keep your distance, and he almost sighs in mild frustration. "Shy!"
"I like her, I swear!" You talk with gritted teeth as you talk to Pavitr about Gayatri. "You looked like you ate a lemon the whole time she was there." "I was just nervous!" Pavitr crosses his arms and looks at you, obviously not tricked by what you're saying. He notices how tense you looked when Gayatri was with you two, how tight your face would scrunch and how you'd rub your eyes and sniffle when you thought no one was looking. His heart pounded in his chest, telling him to just ask what happened between you and his lover. "Is..everything okay?" "I'm fine, Pavitr."
Pavitr didn't remember the last time he saw you outside of school. The daily study sessions he shared with you stopped happening soon after he got with Gayatri. It upset him to no end, especially since he just wanted his friend back. "Pavitr?" He snapped back to the present, seeing his girlfriend on his shoulder, head comfortably on it as she held his hand.
Pavitr came to your home in the afternoon, the time you two usually met up to study. "Ah, Pavitr! [Y/N] didn't tell me you were coming over today." Your father welcomed him with a smile, making Pavitr feel more nervous than he was. "He's just upstairs." "Thank you, sir."
Pavitr stood in front of the door for a few seconds, feeling his palms grow sweaty. It was the same feeling he had when he was asking out Gayatri, but this time he couldn't find out why. The moment he knocked on your door, he considered turning back, only stopping once he heard your door creak open. "Is it already time for dinner? I'll..oh, Pavitr." Pavitr frowned, noticing your eye bags and messy hair. "Is everything okay?" "Yeah, uh..yes. Why wouldn't it be?" "You haven't talked to me in weeks! I had to study with Gayatri." You take the time to wipe your eyes, sniffing as you opened the door a bit more, letting him have a view of your bedroom. Tissues were thrown in your trash haphazardly, your sheets thrown wildly as if you just got out of bed, and books on the floor. "And why is studying with Gayatri a bad thing? Last time I checked, it was all about her." "I love spending time with Gayatri, but you are my best frie-" "I didn't want to be your best friend! That's the only thing you'd let me be, especially when it was all Gayatri, Gayatri, Gayatri! Everytime I was even around, it was all her!" You wipe your eyes again, turning away from Pavitr and retreating into your room, and he follows immediately. He only stands nearby, watching as you take a pillow and hug it close. "How long..? How long have you felt like this?" "Since we were kids. All I ever wanted was to be something more to you, but it was always Gayatri, and when I heard you two was together..? It just hurt. I'm happy for you, I really am, but it just hurts! It hurts so much to see you with Gayatri and ask myself why that couldn't be me? Why I couldn't be more like her and maybe, just maybe, have a chance!" Pavitr was silent, eyes wide and stuck on you as he stared. "And..and that's why I haven't been trying to spend more time with you. I haven't been a good friend and I just think..maybe we shouldn't be friends anymore. Not when I feel like this, not when-" "Don't say that, please don't say that. You'll always be my best friend, we can..we can figure something out." "Get out." You turn away from him once again, turning around and glaring at him when you hear him get closer. "Pavitr, please. Just..just go." "[Y/N]-" You're not even looking at him anymore, hiding in your pillow and scooting as far away as possible until you hear him close your door.
