Unprovoked
The fight was an easy one, the alert came as a break in, upon arrival, a group of Saturnians were looting the area. Supergirl hits the leading Saturnian straight in the forehead, making it fly backwards, dropping the loot he was carrying.
“. . . And I’ve decided to tell her. I think it’s time.” Supergirl said as she grabbed the next one, flinging him into the one on her other side.
Alex gave a sigh “You should have done that months ago. You know? When I told you to do it.”
“I know, but then that thing with Edge happened and I didn’t want to put more pressure on her.”
“What thing with Edge?” Alex asked surprised.
Supergirl pauses for a moment, remembering that she never told Alex about her confronting Edge for threatening Lena.
“Doesn’t matter. Point is, that I might have caught a moment of . . . .”
Supergirl pauses again, a faint blush creeping up onto her face as she remembers floating outside of Lena’s apartment one night, overhearing a every private and intimate moment that the young Luthor had by herself. All Supergirl could clearly hear still ringing in her ears, were both her names being called out. Both Supergirl and Kara followed by a few lewd words that she won’t repeat.
“ . . . Well, let’s just say that I know that she will be thrilled knowing both my secrets that I have been keeping from her.”
Alex commanded a few of the agents to gather the Saturnians that Supergirl had knocked out as she made her way over to Supergirl herself.
“Good job. Now go get ready, Sam, Ruby and I will be a little late, but that will give you enough time to talk with Lena.”
Supergirl smiled at her sister “Thank you!” she exclaimed, getting her powers ready to blast off when something caught her eye. Looking just behind Alex, Supergirl spotted a Saturnian pointing a gun towards Alex.
On instinct Supergirl grabbed Alex, twisting so that she will take the hit instead of her sister. The purple-ish glowing ball hit Supergirl, with no effect. Alex turned towards the shooter, walking closer and punching them in the face, shaking her hand as she told them to take the thief into the DEO van.
Walking back to Supergirl. “You okay?”
“Yeah, fine. I was just thinking that I should probably get some more snacks for if things don’t go according to plan.”
Alex shook her head with a smile, of course Kara would think with her stomach. “Yes, you do that. I know for a fact whether it goes good or bad, you will still be eating all those snacks anyway.”
Supergirl stuck her tongue out to Alex before flying off. Stopping at the store to pick up their entire supply of snacks and heading home. Getting everything ready and set up, Kara’s phone pinged with a message from Sam.
Sam: Hey lover girl. Alex and I decided to stay at my home tonight and give you and your crush more time together. Just in case the two of you wanted to settle something in the bedroom with your happiness. ; )
Kara’s blush could rival the red wine that she had poured out for Lena. This was all Alex and she knew it. Not that she will complain if it so happens. Kara was still daydreaming when a second message pinged.
Lena:Hey Kara. Look, I’m sorry. I won’t be able to make it tonight, something came up, but you guys enjoy your game night, I will catch up with you for lunch tomorrow.
Kara’s shoulders sagged at the massage. Now she will be spending the night alone. With a sigh she replied to Lena and decided to clean up and just watch a movie. This was the first time something was wrong. Kara picked up the wine bottle like she had done million times before and it shattered in her hand.
Kara was a little shocked, but chalked it up with her feeling a little disappointed. Cleaning up and packing the few things away, Kara suddenly felt tired, which again was weird for her. Time went by and she got worse, her body finally gave in on her and she dropped from the sky.
“was she hit by another parasite?” Alex asked J’ohn.
“We haven’t had any alerts about any. This is something else.”
“But look at her. The last time she was this pale and skinny was when the parasite sucked the life out of her. What else could do this?” Alex was panicking.
Kara was in the worst stated that she had ever seen her sister in. Skinny to the bone, pale like she hadn’t just spent the last few hours in the sun. more like she hadn’t seen the sun for a few years. Kara was weak, sickly and more human then Kryptonian. Alex was even able to draw blood without using the kryptonite needles. Something was wrong, terribly so.
“Clark might have an idea” Alex whispered to herself, he has helped them before and if he doesn’t know, then he can find something at the Fortress.
“I will call him and explain, you stay with her.” J’ohn said, putting his hand on her shoulder as Lena rushed into the med-bay and ran up to Kara’s side.
A few hours pass before J’ohn could find Clark. The news wasn’t the best, but it gave them hope.
“According to Superman, Kelex ran a check and found that the symptoms we explain doesn’t make sense together, but pulling them apart it looks like a mix of different Kryptonite poisoning.”
Lena stands up looking at him bewildered “Lord.”
“Yes, Ms. Luthor, it is very shocking.”
“No, I mean Max Lord. He was working on Kryptonite at one point and then Bizzarro happened. She started changing after the break-in at Lord technologies.”
“That’s right, she was hit with something but never had any effects because of it.” Alex turned to the computer. “did Kelex mention which Kryptonite was used?”
“A few, each symptom is connected to a different one, but used together can be devastating to her Kryptonian cells. Green Kryptonite, blue Kryptonite, Red Kryptonite, Kryptonite- X, silver Kryptonite . . .”
“Wait. How the hell did he find all those different Kinds of Kryptonite?” Alex askes, looking at J’ohn wide eyed.
“Lex.” Lena said from behind them, holding Kara’s hand with her one hand caressing her head with the other. “He had a vault that he kept different kinds of rare things in. I don’t know what he had there precisely, but I know he told me once that he had everything, he needed in there to take down Superman. That might be the best place to start checking. Metropolis. 14th street 294, Basement level 7. Elevator code 92073.”
“And you never mentioned this before?” J’ohn asked her, Alex hitting his shoulder even thought she herself wanted to know.
“Never seemed necessary. He mentioned it to me when he was black out drunk. He didn’t even remember telling me, and since he is in prison, I never thought that it was needed to make it known. The only reason I’m telling you now, is because that is the only place I can think of that have all of them there.” Lena looked back towards him as if to challenge him.
“Anyway, Kryptonite- X is more of a booster, it enhances her powers, not drain her.” Alex types away, “And Red K makes her bolder then she usually is, Silver K makes her hallucinate, and even the others don’t drain her of life.”
“What do the others do?” Lena asked, coming up to them.
“Well, Blue K temporarily takes her powers and you already know what the Green K does.”
Lena took a moment to think “Well, seeing as we put different mixtures of medicine together for a specific out come in the medical field, maybe that works the same for her. Each one has a different effect on their own, but put together can be lethal. May I?” she asks Alex pointing at the computer.
Alex waves her hand to the computer showing her to go ahead, but before she could touch it Kara started to stir on the bed. Alex tackles Lena to the floor as a beam of Kara’s heat vision cuts the ceiling from above her bed towards the wall that the others stood at.
“Kara!” Alex yelled and Kara pulled her face away from them, putting her hands in front of her eyes to keep the beam from spreading.
“ALEX! GET OUT! I CAN’T CONTROL IT!!! GO!!!” Kara yells at her, gritting her teeth from the pain that the beam is causing her.
Alex and J’ohn ushers Lena out of the room as Kara yells out in pain. Kara’s yell quiets down and a thud can be heard. Silence and the smell of burned plastic fills the room. Alex sticks her head back in, Kara was unconscious again. Alex walks over to her, assessing the damage done to her hands. Worryingly, Alex grabs the medical supplies and started cleaning her wounds before bandaging them.
“Lena, you can come in now.” Alex says as she walks back to the computer. “What did you want to check?”
“Right, the enhancement Kryptonite is powering her up, couple that with the blue or even green, and you get uncontrolled powers and injuries. Hallucination and behaviour, makes for the snapping and hiding. Now putting them all together, we get this.” Lena turns the screen to show Alex.
Alex quietly gasps “Her body is fighting itself.” She whispers as she reads the results.
“Yes, and now we need to find a way to reverse it. We need that weapon and fast.” Lena says urgently.
