The Team
Prologue
In the 1940s a young skinny man was picked for a top-secret project for the army. He was chosen to receive a serum that would be the beginning of a group of soldiers that could help win the war against the Nazi's. But unfortunately, that serum was lost and the only one who knew the formula was murdered. But what the SHIELD reports didn't show ever, was that one vial of the serum was saved. It was given to an agent that was highly trusted to keep it guarded with her life. She was given strict instructions that the serum was to only be given to a worthy candidate. Someone who had a similar heart as the soldier that was picked for project rebirth.
That secret has been kept for a few generations now. And in 2010, the perfect candidate was found. And now, when the world needed its hero's, a new soldier was added to the mix.
A Captain.
A playboy genius.
A god of thunder
Two deadly assassins
The hulk
…..and The commander.
Chapter 1
The Team
[Inside the Quinjet, Steve is sitting down with a tablet, watching the footage of the Hulk's attack on the Army at Culver University]
(Steve's point of view 3rd person)
Steve was sitting in the Quinjet just reading up on the different people that had been called in. He was shocked at the footage of the Hulk. "So, this Doctor Banner, He was trying to replicate the serum that was used on me?" Steve asked the Agent that was sitting across from him.
Agent Coulson stood up and walked over, "Yeah, a lot of people were. You were the world's first superhero. And Banner, he thought gamma radiation might hold the key to unlocking that formula."
Steve gazed back down at the tablet and sighed, "Didn't really work out for him, did it?" Steve looked back up to Coulson, The Agent shook his head, "No not so much. But that's not the only reason why he was called in. When he is not that thing, he is like a Stephen Hawking." Steve looked confused up at him. Coulson tried to clarify, "He is a very smart person."
Steve looked down at the tablet and swiped again to look at the last person in the file and his breath caught. It was a woman who was in a military uniform with a black vest on. He was watching footage of her and a group of soldiers in combat. It went to another video that looked like it was from a body cam, and he caught some shots of her in combat, hand to hand encounters and others of her shooting what looked to be sniper rifle.
"Who is this?" Steve asked, looking up at Coulson. Coulson had turned to look out of the jet when Steve asked, and he turned back around to see who Steve was talking about. Coulson laughed when he realized who he was looking at.
"That is the Commander. She is a Navy SEAL. Highly trained. Highly decorated. And as of 2 years ago, an Agent for SHIELD as well." Phil explained.
"Is she going to be joining us?" Steve asked. Coulson knew that the call went out to the commander, but he wasn't sure if it was received yet. The commander was on a black ops mission with the military currently and sometimes it was hard to get a hold of her. "The orders went out to her, but she was currently on assignment, so she will probably be joining us later."
Steve nodded but continued to watch the videos. Reading up on the notes that were provided to him. Her name was Emma Knight. Commander in the Navy. She was also a SEAL team member. She was 29 years old. She had an impressive military record. He found himself in awe of this woman. Sure, few women were in the military before his time in the ice, but what they could accomplish now was amazing. He stopped on a picture of her that looked like it was more of a recent photo. She had on a skintight body suit that had the shield logo on the side. She looked like she had a little bit more muscle and more defined features in the photo as well. She was strikingly beautiful.
More of her history was not available as this was just a brief folder of the potential team he would be working with.
Steve was startled out of his research when Coulson spoke up again, "I gotta say, it's an honor to meet you officially." Steve looked up at Coulson with an embarrassed smile. Then looked back down at the tablet in front of him. Phil continued, "You know, I sort of met you, I mean…I watched you while you were sleeping." Steve felt awkward all of a sudden and sat the tablet down and moved to stand behind the pilots so he could look out the windows, but that didn't stop the agent from walking over to him. "I mean, I was present while you were unconscious from the ice. You know, it's just a…" Phil let out an awed sigh, "it's just a huge honor to have you on board."
Steve stood up a little taller at this, "Well, I hope I'm the man for the job." Then gave the agent a small smile. Truthfully, he was nervous about this new world he had woken up into. He had been awake for maybe 6 months and had been slowly learning about the new world he was in. He had also been through some intense rehab for his body since it was frozen for so long. Finally feeling like his body was getting back to normal for him.
"Oh, you… you are. Absolutely." Phil stumbled over his words. Steve looked over at him with a nod of thanks, then proceeded to looked back out of the window.
"Oh, uh, we've made some modifications to the uniform. I had a little design input." Steve looked a little shocked at this. "We also have your shield as well, with a little design update."
"The uniform? Not to be ungrateful but, isn't the Stars and Stripes a little…old fashioned?" Steve asked. One thing he had noticed it today's world, that people didn't seem as patriotic as he was used to be during the war. Phil stepped a little closer with an almost sad look, "With everything that's happening, the things that are about to come to light, the people might just need a little old fashioned." Steve thought about the statement. Hoping he would make his country proud like back in his time.
[Quinjet landed on the carrier]
As the ramp opened on the jet, Steve walked out, immediately looking around and having a feeling of nostalgia in a way. Seeing soldiers running around, hearing orders being given out. Made him feel a little bit normal.
Agent Coulson walked out behind Steve and saw Agent Romanoff walking up to them. "Agent Romanoff," Phil started and motioned towards Steve, "Captain Rogers." Steve nodded to the agent, "Ma'am."
Natasha nodded to the captain, "Hi." Then she looked over to Coulson, "They need you on the bridge. Starting the face trace." Phil nodded then looked back to Steve, "See you there." Steve watched Coulson walk away then turned to look back at Agent Romanoff. They started walking around the helipad while Steve took everything in.
"There was quite the buzz around here when they found you in the ice. I thought Coulson was going to swoon. Did he ask you to sign his Captain America trading cards yet?" Natasha smirked at the captain. Steve just shook his head and blushed, "Trading cards?"
Natasha just laughed at his embarrassment, "They're vintage. Very proud." They both chuckled. Steve looked around again and noticed familiar face wondering around. "Dr Banner!" Steve called out as he was walking closer. Bruce jumped and turned to see who was talking to him and recognize Steve Rogers.
"Oh. Hi." He said, reaching out to shake the captain's hand. He had been doing so much research on this man, that it was kind of surreal to be meeting him in person. "They told me you'd be coming." Banner added.
"Word is you can find the cube?" Steve asked. Banner looked around almost nervously, "Is that the only word on me?" He asked back.
Steve looked the doctor in the eye, "Only word I care about." Letting the doctor know that he isn't judging or scared about his alter ego. Banner nodded to him in thanks.
Natasha then walked up between the two, "Gentlemen, you may want to step inside in a minute. It's going to get a little hard to breath in a moment." As she spoke, everyone could hear the increasing in the engine sounds. Steve was looking around confused, "Is this a submarine?" He questioned as him and Dr Banner walked towards the end of the carrier.
"Really? They want me in a submerged pressurized metal container?" Banner asked rhetorically.
As the two walked even closer to the edge, Natasha just laughed at them, "Other direction boys." She said as she turned and started walking away. "Come on boys. Time to go in." She said over her shoulder.
The gentleman both glanced at each other then turned and quickly followed Agent Romanoff inside.
[on the helicarrier bridge]
Steve walked through the bridge doors and looked around in awe. He also felt a little nervous being up in the air again like this with what happened when he was last on a large aircraft. Walking up beside Fury, Steve was looking around at all the computers and the large windows. Sighing, he pulled out a 10-dollar bill and gave it to Fury.
Fury just smirked and slide the money into his jacket and watched Steve continue walking across the bridge, gazing at everything. As much as Steve missed his old life, he had to admit that the wonders that the world has discovered is truly amazing.
He stood leaning against the railing just watching everything work and then looking back out the window again. His mind went back to the female soldiers' picture from the flight over. He was curious about her, and he also couldn't get over how beautiful she was either. He was looking forward to meeting such an accomplished woman in the military. He hoped that they would be friends with the common interest.
His thoughts then went to another woman that he hadn't really let himself think of since he first woke up. Peggy Carter. The woman, Emma, slightly resembled her, but Emma also had her own beauty.
Thinking of Peggy, he let out a sigh and looked down. He wondered what would have happened if he hadn't crashed that plane. Or if they had found him after he crashed. He also found himself thinking, would they have worked out? Back in the 40s there was also this thought in the back of his mind, wondering if Peggy only liked him because of his transformation and abilities. Sure she smiled and spoke with him when he was the skinny guy, but he noticed the change after he was the man he is now. She was beautiful, and the kiss was nice, but was it just in the moment?
He was startled out of his thoughts when agent Coulson wondered over to him and stood next to him again. "You doing okay?" Coulson asked. Steve was thankful for the mans question. Nodding back to him, "Yeah, I'm okay. Just taking it in."
"Ummm, if its no trouble, after we track down Loki or have a few minutes, would you mind signing my trading cards? If its not too much trouble?" Phil asked. He was a little embarrassed to ask, but couldn't help it.
Steve just laughed to himself; Agent Romanoff had called it. "No, no, its fine." Steve agreed. Coulson looked like a kid in a candy store suddenly, "It's a vintage set. Took me quite a few years to collect them all. Near mint, just slight foxing around the edges…" Suddenly there was a loud beeping sound. Steve looked to where the beeping was coming from and crossed his arms focusing on the gentleman who was typing away quickly. Fury walked over as well and was standing above Steve and Coulson.
"We got a hit. Sixty-seven percent match… no wait... cross match. Seventy-nine percent." The agent at the desk turned and looked to Fury. Agent Coulson walked forward, "Location?"
The other guy answered, "Stuttgart, Germany. He is not exactly hiding." Pointing to the screen, showing Loki at a party it looked like. Steve sighed inwardly, not really liking that it was in Germany.
"Captain!" Fury called, Steve turning to look at him. "You're up." Steve just nods with the orders.
"Oh and Captain," Steve turns to look at Fury again, "The Commander will be meeting you there." Fury added with a smirk. Steve nodded, but was suddenly nervous at the thought of meeting the woman.
