Chapter 1

Steve was not doing great. He had been avoiding everyone for the past few days. Ignoring some calls and even when he did answer he almost never said anything. As to the reason why he was avoiding everyone? Well, it was pretty simple. Well, to him at least. His wings were coming in. He had no clue how to explain it to his flock. As they had thought he was human the whole time, and he never corrected them either. Simply because it was past the time he was supposed to present. Which would have been at 15. He’s guessing it’s happening now that he actually has a flock, as his parents had passed away when he was younger, leaving a family friend to take care of him. When he turned 18 he was given his parents money and business. He decided to let his aunt take care of the business as he was still in school at the time, and he plans to run it when he is ready. He still gets a hefty amount of money though, he barely uses it. Back to the task at hand though.

His flock was trying to get in contact with him, he’s sure they’re about to bust down his door. Steve sighed as he considered his options. He could call Hopper, no, he’d bust down his door at the thought of Steve having wings rip from his back. He could call Joyce, no, she’d do the same thing as Hopper. He could call Eddie, he’d understand. Since he is a vampire, and everytime he transforms wings tear from his back. Yeah, he’ll call Eddie. Walking over to the phone Steve dialed Eddie's number, every movement of his arms sent a flaring pain to his back. The phone rang three times before it was answered. “Hello, this is Eddie.” The familiar voice rang out. “Eddie, it’s me Steve. I need you to come over. Don’t tell anyone, please. I need your help.” The line was silent, Steve was about to ask if he was still there when the other voice rang through the phone again. “I’ll be there right away, lips sealed.” Eddie hung up.

Steve was becoming more aware of the growing pressure from his back. Steve swayed and caught himself on the kitchen counter. This is going to suck major ass. He heard knocking at his door and made his way there. He opened the door to see a very concerned Eddie. Inviting him in and shutting the door behind him, locking it. “Steve, what’s wrong? No one has seen or heard from you in days!” Eddie said. Steve sighed and answered. “Eddie, I think I’m presenting.” Eddie froze. “And why would you need my help?” Eddie asked carefully. “You’re the only person who knows what it’s like to have wings burst from your back.” Steve answered quickly as the pressure in his back quickly grew, making him hunch over. Eddie went straight into action. Picking Steve up, avoiding his back and carrying him upstairs. He burst into Steve's room and laid him on his stomach, putting a pillow under his head. He went to Steve's attached bathroom and grabbed a towel and brought it to Steve, “Put this in your mouth to bite, Things are going to get painful.”

Steve did as he was told and put it in his mouth. He could feel Eddie carefully rip off his shirt to assess the problem. "Ok, they should start any minute." He warned Steve. Steve hummed in acknowledgement. Just then he felt a searing pain arise from his back. He could feel the movement under his skin. He screamed and bit down on the towel. Tears formed in his eyes as the appendages kept pushing their way through his skin. He could feel Eddie sitting on the back of his legs, "You've got this Stevie!" Eddie praised. He could feel his skin start to tear apart, a hot liquid ran down his ribs. Eddie hissed slightly as the rest of his wings pulled out. "Oh God, so much blood" Eddie said, his voice sounded pained. "I'll let them set, I'll be back with some towels and stuff to clean the blood.". He could feel Eddie get off his legs and walk to his bathroom.

Steve laid there, drifting in and out of consciousness. Trying to stay awake. Tears spilled from his eyes. The worst part was over, but the stinging pain of freshly burst wings was strong. Seconds later Eddie came out of the bathroom, with some towels and disinfectant. Along with what he assumed were painkillers. He then handed Steve the painkillers and turned to do his work. Steve took the pills and laid his head back onto the pillow. “You can go ahead and take a nap Big boy. You earned it.” Steve sighed and nodded slightly before closing his eyes. He could feel the pain drifting away thanks to the painkillers and Eddie’s hands cleaning his back and wings. Eddie got to work and started wiping away the blood, which seemed to stop bleeding after a few minutes. He then applied the disinfectant and lotion. Eddie finished his work and took a look around.

Steves once white bed had a puddle of blood now. “Jeez, I should probably clean this.” Eddie picked Steve up once again and set him in the guest bedroom before going back and began to strip the bed. Lucky for him no blood got on the mattress, leaving only the thick blankets and sheets. He carried them into the basement and began the process of cleaning out the blood. Steve awoke about 9 hours later at 4 am. “Ugh'' Steve groaned as he slowly sat up. He was in the guest room. Just then he remembered the night before.  Looking back as much as he could, he saw his spiky featherless wings. Large pin feathers have already formed. Steve sighed, they looked like featherless chicken wings. There was a knock on the door. Steve slowly sat on the edge of the bed. “Come in.” He said quietly. The door slowly opened to reveal a disheveled Eddie with a glass of water and some food. “How are you feeling sweetheart?” The other asked with a smile. “Like shit. My pin feathers came in though.”. Steve sighed. Eddie walked over and set the water on the side table and set the food in Steve's lap. “Eat up big boy, you’re gonna need it. With all that blood you lost.” Eddie said in a sweet voice. Steve nodded and began to eat the sandwich. “I was also able to clean your blanket and sheets, you’re lucky the blood didn’t get into the mattress.” Eddie giggled. “Thank you, Eddie.” Steve hummed in response.

Eddie stayed by Steve until he was finished eating. “So, what’s the whole pin feather situation?” He asked as he looked at Steve's wings. “They fill with blood and form the feathers. Once there is no blood in them I have to start to remove the Keratin to unfurl the feather. Thanks to the magic runes carved into the house, it will speed up the process.” Eddie nodded at the information. “And how long should this take?” Eddie asked. “Uh, today is Monday, so probably until saturday?” Eddie nodded, “I’m going to tell the kids you’re doing fine. If that’s okay with you. I won’t tell them anything about this.”. Steve nodded. “Just tell them my aunt took me on a surprise trip and I won’t be back until Saturday. And Eddie, You don’t have to continue to visit. I will however need help with removing the Keratin on Saturday.”. Eddie nodded. “What will you do until then?” He asked. “Most likely sleeping.” Steve smiled tiredly, looking at Eddie. No, he didn't want Eddie to leave. Eddie was his flock. “Eddie, I know you have school. So can you promise to visit me?” If Eddie couldn’t stay with him the entire time then the least he could do is come see him everyday. “Of course Stevie.” Eddie answered, seeming to catch onto something.

Steve hummed a happy chirp. To which Eddie chuckled at. “What?” Steve asked. “You’re too cute for your own good.”. Steve felt his face heat up. Eddie offered his hand to Steve. Steve looked questionably at the hand before taking it. Eddie gently got up with him and guided him to his room. When he entered it he saw what resembles a nest on the bed. Eddie watched as Steve’s pupils dilated. Steve dragged Eddie into the nest with him, pulling Eddie into his chest. Steve began to make a pur like noise from his chest. Eddie leaned into it. His eyes fluttered shut as sleep overcame him. He awoke to Steve looking down at him with loving eyes. “Morning!” Steve smiled at him. “Goodmorning, Stevie.” Eddie said as he lifted a hand to move a stray hair behind Steve’s ear. “I’ll make breakfast.” Steve said quietly before grabbing Eddie’s hand and kissing his palm. Eddie froze as Steve got up, stretching his new wings along with his arms as he exited the room. Eddie looked at his hand before looking at where Steve once was, a smile etching its way onto his face. Eddie hopped out of bed and chased after Steve.

When Eddie made it downstairs he ran to the Kitchen, stopping at the doorway. Looking at Steve, whom was shirtless with an apron on since he didn’t have any clothes to accommodate for his new wings, which were still featherless. “You gonna keep staring or are you going to help me?” Steve said, snapping Eddie out of whatever trance he was in. “So, what about that kiss?” as the question was asked Steve froze for a moment. “Sorry, I-” Before Steve could finish, he was spun around, soft slightly chapped lips were on his. Eddie pulled away. “Been waiting to do that for a while.” Eddie sighed, Steve chuckled at him. “So, are you going to help me or what?” Eddie shrugged, “Maybe.”. A playful smile splayed on Eddie’s face, to which Steve laughed at before they both started making breakfast.
