the danger parents
If miles Morales had a nickel for every time he ran away from crazy spider-people who chased him for no friggin' justified reason-
He'd have two nickels. Which isn't a lot, but it's weird that it happened twice.
After spot was defeated, and after miles proved that a 'canon event' can be prevented and saved his father, he finally earned the spider-cult society's respect, and even more importantly, his own watch. Which led to him going on the hardest, most difficult multiverse mission;
Going on a date with the one and only Gwen Stacy.
Well, technically there are a lot of Gwens in the multiverse but… ya' get him.
It was supposed to be simple: they'll meet up at her universe, swing a little, eat something, stop some thugs, maybe go to see a movie or something. After all, being a hero was difficult enough; neither of them wanted to complicate their love life too. Nice, easy-going meet up sounded like the perfect date.
So naturally, his parents couldn't let it happen. No, they wanted to meet her before letting him go.
"you've already met her, Mami!" miles repeated for what was probably the hundredth time.
"I want to meet her properly, hijo." Rio Morales said stubbornly, her husband nodding firmly beside her. Properly? What the heck does that even mean?
So the plans changed; she will come to pick him up and they'll go to a date in his universe. After sitting through a very awkward shovel talk from his parents, of course.
So here he was, sitting beside Gwen in his kitchen, his parents staring at her, unimpressed.
''hey, Mr. and Mrs. Morales… H-how are you doing?'' the blond asked nervously. Oh, thank the spider that bit him that she didn’t call them by their first names this time. "we're doing alright, thank you. So what are the plans for tonight, huh?'' miles' dad cut straight to the point, looking Gwen up and down as if she is a thief he arrested.
"just going to eat something, dad. Maybe going to the movies." Miles answered. Rio's eyes narrowed. "so you don't know what you'll do tonight yet?'' mom, no. "when will you return him home?'' she questioned Gwen, who instantly, as if she'd rehearsed that sentence, shot her a "at ten p.m, ma'am!'' and then added frantically ''unless you want him home sooner.''
Miles smiled internally. At least he's not the only one nervous about their first date. They really are the same. At some aspects, at least. His parents exchanged glances, then decided ten is acceptable enough. After another round of questioning, they finally let them go.
"have fun, children!'' miles mother said, his dad following with a "but not to much fun!"
"thanks, rio. Wait, I meant-" miles has never shut a door faster in his life.
"do you think they hate me?" Gwen sighed. "…nah. I'm sure they love you." Miles said and chuckled when Gwen nudged him playfully.
"I'd expect spider-man to know how to lie."
"I'd expect a daughter of a police captain to know not to call adults by their first names." He retorted and Gwen groaned into her palms. "I know! I to totally messed up, didn't i?''
"no, no- I'm sure they’ll forget it by the time were back."
The blond smiled at him. "I still know you're lying, but thanks." Miles laughed.
"no problem. So, whatcha' wanna do now?"
Gwen frowned and turned her gaze to her watch. "before we start anything, I gotta hand in the reports from last mission. It'll take only 5 minutes, is that alright?" she asked him worriedly.
"yeah, of course!" Miles assured and added somewhat awkwardly, "want me to come along?" by the way Gwen's face brightened he knew it was the right thing to say.
The two started to walk towards a hidden alley where they could teleport to the spider-society's headquarters. After a minute of arguing with himself, miles took a deep breath and hesitantly laced his fingers with hers. Relief flooded through him when gwen squeezed his hand instead of smacking it away.
Tonight is going to be great.
