Chapter 1
Bucky was pissed. The new partnership was more complicated than expected. On top of that he hadn't slept well the night before, not that he usually slept well but the last night was particularly exhausting.
"Boss, the new weapons have arrived."
Peter was new in the mob business, and although he was only 17 years old, he was ambitious to make everything perfect. Peter reminded Bucky of his younger self, naive and full of dreams.
From this 17 year old Bucky was only a spark left, which he kept hidden deep inside of him so no one could see it.
"Tell Steve he can start without me, and hurry the fuck up!", with a sigh stood Bucky up, he could not wait for this week to be over.
"Oh, and when you're on your way out, get me a coffee. Black and no sugar!"

You hummed happily to the radio, it was one of this boring pop songs with no message, but you didn't wanted to change the channel.
You worked in a small café, in Manhattan. The job wasn't the best paid one, but you loved the smell of fresh brewed coffee and baked goods. Besides, the café wasn't really known, which meant that you had your peace most of the time.
You were cleaning the counter, when a young man came in.
You looked up and said with a cheerful voice: "Hey, want can I do for you?". "Just a coffee, black please and no sugar." You frowned, "Are you sure, we have a really good matcha late? Or do you want a Cappuccino?"
"No thanks, my boss made really strict instructions...and I think he would kill me if I would mess up his order", he slapped his hand over his mouth as if he should not have said this. "I- i mean, he would never kill a single soul, he's a really good boss!"
You chuckled slightly, "Okay, okay, a black coffee without sugar for your really kind and definitely-not-a-murder boss."
While you were making the coffee, the young man tapped nervously on the counter. "Is everything okay with you? I'm y/n by the way, i like to know my customers personally in this anonymous city."
He gave a nervous laugh, "Peter, and yeah I mostly okay. My boss is constantly on the edge at the moment, which ends in him vending all of his rage on me..."
You gave him a knowing smile and an idea formed in you head. "I hope this coffee will calm him down Peter".
"Thank you! I hope so too!", and with that the young man was out of your little café.

"What got you so worked up? Is it the partnership? Because you're too fucked up over this little inconvenience!" Steve knew Bucky like the back of his hand and he could practically fell the anger radiating from him.
"It's nothing", muttered Bucky defiant in response. But if he was honest to himself, it wasn't nothing.
Steve married the love of his life, Peggy, a moth ago, and while he was very happy for his best friend, he also wondered if he would ever archive something like this, something like true and unconditional love.
Of course, woman literally threw themselves at him, he was New York's most popular bachelor, however, these woman were each time only a quick fuck to satisfy his needs. But Bucky wanted love, he still couldn't really admit it to himself, but -deep inside of him- he longed for a family.
He had a longing for something he could never experience himself. The only time he had come close to experiencing something like this, was when he was 15 and celebrating Christmas with Steve's family.
Even through that Steve noted that Bucky had lied, he didn't say anything. He new better than to piss him of.

How Peter talked about his boss made you curious, how could someone be so mean to such a sweet teenager? The only reasonable explanation was that his boss was a really big ass.
"Hello? Earth to y/n!?", the voice of your coworker made you flinch, you didn't even noticed that someone was talking to you. "What's up?", you were tired and not really up to a long conversation with her. You liked your coworker but she was a little bit too obsessed with your love life.
"I've a date for you, you need sex! I can see it!", Ashly tried to convince you for the thousand time today to go on a date with one of her friends. You were never really enthusiastic about her arranged dates, but today especially not.
"Please, I don't want to go! Every single guy you set me up with, is literally a psychopath!", it was true. Once a guy said to you that he likes to piss in his bed to get warm, and that wasn't even the weirdest guy.
But the real reason you didn't wanted to go on a date was a complete other.
You just recently broke up with your boyfriend of 2 years, and it wasn't a we-will-still-be-friends breakup it was a i-will-kill-you-you-bitch breakup. So you had zero intention to date anytime soon. Especially one of Ashly's psycho friends.

While you were still arguing with your coworker if you should go on the date of not, Bucky was completely somewhere else.
After he inspected the new weapons with Steve, he went back to his office to sort the shit with the new partnership out. What he didn't expected was to find out that the coffee, he had ordered Peter to get, wasn't just a regular coffee. No, on the side of the cup was something scribbled, it said: "Be kind to Peter".
Normally Bucky would instantly destroy anybody who would dare to criticize him. But this note made him curious, he wanted to know the person who wrote this message. He wanted to know who would care so much about a customer, that they would write something like this on a to-go coffee cup.
But mostly of all, he wanted to know who this handwriting belonged to.
Because the little heart that was put behind the note made his heart skip a beat. Without Bucky even noticing.
