Chapter 1

Lego. That’s what he was. A Lego. It was an uncomfortable realization that not only was he a plastic toy, but he wasn’t even common. Most Spidermen were, in fact, human. He was not. He was a tiny object. He wasn’t the only object though. There was a Spider popsicle, Spider plushie, Spider Car, and more. He was by far the smallest. It was a source of despair for the Spiderman. He didn’t measure up to the others when it came to size. Luckily, several cohorts of his were working to fix his height and Lego problem. They had created a machine that would, hypothetically, change the non-human Spidermen into humans. They would keep their abilities and weird ways but not their structure. In the case of Lego Spiderman, he would be able to be human but he could still fall apart into bricks and would still be a Master Builder. They would only transform into their human form when in the Hub. When they leave for any other universe, they would go back to their original form.
The other object Spidermen were hesitant to try out the machine for themselves seeing as no one knew if it would work to begin with. They needed a volunteer. The Lego was immediately invested. Offering himself up. He was excited to become a human. He would gain height and recognition. Although that was great, it was not his main motivation. There was a certain spider he had his eyes on. A spider that was tall in stature, muscular, and equipped with a set of claws and fangs. Miguel O’Hare. In his tininess, Peter feared he would never get the chance to express his feelings to his boss. How could he kiss him when he was barely the size of an index finger? How could he be noticed at all by his boss? If it was a test subject they needed, he would be the first.
Despite his ambition and excitement, he was still nervous. He was about to experience something he never had before. What if the machine failed? What if his body couldn’t handle it? He put a lot of his trust in his fellow Spidermen but that did not ease him in the slightest. The machine was large and cylindrical. It was something you had to step inside of and you would be encased in a glass tube. It was far larger than he was but as the others didn’t know what size he would be when he emerged, they made it extra large. He stepped inside with slight hesitation.
“Are you sure you are ready for this, Peter? You’ll be in there for at least an hour. This is going to be a long process.”
It was Miguel who asked. He had been hesitant to even entertain the idea that this was possible or safe. He had a poorly disguised look of concern on his face.
“Yeah, I’m sure. I have faith in this machine.”
That wasn’t entirely true.
“All righty, then.”
Jessica was the one launching the machine.
“Count down starting. 5.”
A loud wring noise started up.
“4.”
Oh boy.
“3.”
The glass doors closed around him. He was starting to get nervous.
“2.”
Here we go.
“1.”
There was no time to back out now. An eruption of colorful light and noise came out of the machine. Steam filled up the glass tube. He felt his body begin to glitch and change and grow. It was freaky. His hands grew larger and began to spread into fingers. His body felt more fleshy and vulnerable. His head began to pound. His sight was obscured by bright flashes of light. Suddenly, an intense wave of pain hit him. It started stabby and then turned into more of an achy pain. His head felt light. Then everything went black. It felt like nothingness was surrounding him. It was like being submerged underwater. For what felt like a few minutes passed by. He then snapped awake. The steam was slowly beginning to dissipate and he felt strange. His legs were wobbly and he began to tremble. He shuddered and fell back onto the glass wall behind him. It was his only support as his legs had all but given out. He stretched his hand out in front of his face only to realize that his arms were bending and he had fingers. His fingers had felt numb at the tips. He then moved his hands to his face. It was smooth and curvy. He had a nose. His hands wandered further to his hair. It was soft. The hands then bumped into ears. That was something he never had before.
He felt down his chest which he hadn't been able to do before. The hands slid down further. There was a slight trail of hair. In between his legs was a foreign appendage. Something was there that hadn’t been there before. It had almost startled him but he had heard about it before. Something Hobbie had told him about. Though he never got a full explanation as Miguel overheard and shut it down fast. A wave of suffocation hit him and he threw his head back gasping for air. His hand flew up to his mouth when he realized it was a gaping hole. He opened his mouth and stuck a few fingers in. He felt around and discovered teeth and a tongue. He was once again hit with a realization. He was stark naked. His clothes had disappeared during the transformation. He was now grateful that he had given his communicator to Pavitr. Losing that would not be good.
He began to grow faint. He sank down more against the glass. The steam had finally been reduced to only a slight mist. The doors opened with a hiss. Had it really been an hour already? He pushed himself up into a standing position. He tried to take a step forward but stumbled. His legs were still unstable and his mind was foggy. He stepped out and fell forward. Eyes fluttering closed in the process.
Two strong arms reached out and caught him. One arm went under his legs and the other went under his arms. Before he could register who had saved him from his fall, he shoved his face into the crook of their neck and hid from the light. Peter’s arms closed around the neck of whoever was holding him quickly and gently. He was still tiny in the arms of the man holding him, but not as tiny as before. He whimpered slightly. His body still ached dully.
“Can one of you stop gawking and get him some clothes?”
It was the voice of the man holding him. It was Miguel. Peter’s face flushed red. The voice of the man holding him whispered in his ear. “Everything is alright Peter. The test was clearly a success.”
Embarrassingly he nuzzled closer to Miguel. He was warm. A second wave hit him. This time it was exhaustion. He then promptly fell asleep in Miguel’s arms.
