did i cross the line?

Miles stumbled into base, he was still a little groggy from the late night he had with Ganke but the nauseating anxiety in his stomach was keeping him on his toes.

He knew Hobie wouldn’t judge him for the sexuality part of the confession obviously but it was indeed a confession.. to Hobie himself.

He never planned to do something like that so abruptly but it just came out!

The face he saw Hobie make as he clicked it together is haunting him when he closes his eyes.

The uncertainty he feels from it and not knowing how it was taken is gnawing away at him.

What if he thinks Miles is weird for being around him so closely while having feelings?

The sudden realization he could be mistaken as a creep just made him feel worse.

And the kicker was that Miles hadn’t even had time to lose feelings before Miguel decided a group mission was an amazing way to spend the day.

As he walked into the restroom to throw some water in his face before walking into the meeting room he remembered he never updated Gwen on what had happened.

And he’s about like 5 minutes away from having a good four hour mission with her, Pav, AND Hobie.

He just prayed Gwen’s freakish intuition will read the room and will save her berating for his no text back later.

Miles just sighed and looked down, not missing a glance at the bracelet Hobie had handed to him the week prior.

It pulled on his heart strings to see his initials in-graven on the side, two letters that mirror the initials he had put on the ring he gave to Hobie.

The subtle recomposition for the gift he gave Hobie for his birthday never fails to make his face grow warm.

He remembers the amount of joy he had that day. To see Hobie so immersed by a piece Miles had been planning for months.

The sleepless nights of designing and building a ring he hoped Hobie would love was immediately worth it to see the sparkle in his eye.

If there was any moment that sealed his love for Hobie, that was definitely it.

Feeling his eyes sting with regret he quickly throws more water on his face and walks out of the restroom, hopefully leaving the heavy atmosphere there.

Hobie crashes through the doors of the meeting room, toast still hanging from his lip and mask barely clinging to his face.

He didn’t need to look up to see the disappointed but mostly irritated face Miguel carried daily.

“Hobie, I thought I stated to be present in 10 minutes.” Miguel said sternly, voice echoing throughout his room.

To any other person, this would’ve meant trouble or at-least fear.

But to Hobie Brown, this was just the 50th scold he’s received this week by the same grumpy fellow.

With a final crunch of his (burnt) toast, Hobie starts his own familiar tangent.

“Well Miguel, to be a hundred percent accurate I took 9 minutes and 46 seconds.”

Hobie says with a smirk, of course pulling out a stop watch and waving it in-front of Miguel’s face like a piece of gold.

“See, I even timed myself for you.”

Hobie just laughs at the regular irritation on Miguel’s face and walks to stand with Pav.

His smile of greeting not reaching his eyes as he pans the room to see it missing one very expected man.

Miguel just clicked his tongue and put his index and thumb to the bridge of his nose, not feeling a side of banter with Hobie today.

He walks to the end of the room and takes a look to see who’s missing, he notes Miles has not shown yet.

He couldn’t really be mad because he did notify him on his presumed break but he was needed.

He turns to look at Gwen, noting she’s unusually quiet seemingly not looking away from the door.

Catching a certain feeling from her, he looks over to Pavitr and Hobie.

On the surface it looks normal, Pavitr is chatting away obliviously but this time Hobie is zoning out with his solemn expression.

This puzzles Miguel because just what had happened within a weekend.

He chooses not to poke at it and turns to pull up the details of the mission as they wait for Miles.

Miles is now maybe running to the meeting room.

— Well to him he’s just speed walking, really fast.

He didn’t mean to take so long in the restroom, but isn’t beating himself up too bad about it because preventing a random breakdown before a big mission is sorta important.

But he knows since it is a big mission Miguel must be keeping everyone in check and Miles is no exception.

He rushes into the long hallway and before he enters takes a pause.

He feels everyone’s energy before he goes in, and pathetically he smells the remnants of Hobie’s cologne in the air.

Deeming this no time to be melancholy, he throws on his best smile and opens the doors to the meeting room.

And of course, he meets the eye of no other than Hobie.

He swallows the singular butterfly he feels before it’s drowned in anxiousness.
