The Pub

Hobie was strumming on his guitar picking up little melodies now and again laying on Miles’s bed. He looks up to see Miles laying on the opposite end of the bed scribbling in his sketch book.

The day had been really chill honestly both him and Miles got off “spider-verse work” early and just wanted to spend the day together

As friends of course.

Putting his arm around Miles as they walked out of base getting ready to make a portal making sure to ignore Gwen and Pav’s

that doesn’t look like friends to me” stares like his life depended on it.

They were friends.

Miles was clearly in-love with Gwen, Hobie would be mental if he even let himself think otherwise.

In reality by convincing himself Miles doesn’t feel the same he saves himself the pain of losing him and the friendship.

Quickly shaking the thought away he gets an idea.

Instead of being cooped up all day they should go to Hobie’s universe besides he hadn’t properly shown Miles around yet.

Looking down at his watch “11:56PM”.

What could they do at this time?

Snapping his fingers as he remembers that his favorite Pub by his apartment was definitely open at this time.

Nudging Miles with his leg he sees him look up not taking his eyes off the paper until the last second,

“Yeah Hobes?”

“What’re you drawing peter pan lemme take a look” Hobie says sitting up and crawling towards Miles’s end of the bed.

Miles suddenly gripping the sketchbook tighter and growing a shade of pink.

oh now i gotta see what’s in that book.

“C’mon lemme just see i’m sure it isn’t anything bad innit?”

“no but just- I don’t want to seem weird..”

Scrunching his eyebrows together Hobie turns his head slightly confused.

“okay that just made it seem a lot weirder i’ll just show you but don’t make fun of me okay!” Miles says as he rips the paper off.

Hobie nods eagerly and gets handed the drawling.

It’s of him.

Quickly starting to observe all of the details he sees that Miles just went off what he saw in-front of him. Hobie slouched down peacefully strumming in his guitar with little colorful musical notes by it. Also noting that Miles’s never used the same color twice on Hobie.

He feels himself grin knowing that he did that because he remembered that Hobie is adamant about not being consistent.

“Miles, lovely this is bloody cool!” Hobie said  nudging him on the shoulder.

Miles smiles and leans into the touch mumbling its nothing

“Hey why don’t you and me go out tonight eh? I’ll show you a real sick pub I love”

Miles perks up and sits up,

“Really? I would love to hobes we just gotta convince my mom that i’ll come back in one piece…. I will come back in one piece right?”

Hobie let’s out a chuckle

“eh we will see along the way just by the way if some bloke asks where your ends are from say somethin’ freaky to scare him off”

“My what?”

“your ends mate where your from.” Hobie says while getting up to put his vest and boots back on.

Miles scoffs humorously and goes out to ask his mom if he could go out for awhile.

Hobie finishes tying his laces he hears some banter mostly Miles’s father he was definitely not chuffed to know his son was going out this late especially with Hobie.

But Mrs. Morales seemed to like him so he had some hope.

Miles walks in yelling “alright alright ma I love you too” showing Hobie two thumbs up.

Hobie scruffs Miles’s hair for a bit while he gets his jacket and jordans on.

He makes a portal and they jump right in.

Hobie makes sure to make a stop at his apartment first needing to make some adjustments to Miles’s outfit.

Wanting him to blend in the crowd not gain as much attention but with a face like his that was already hard as it is. He adds some jewelry switching Miles’s hoodie for a black one with some patches stitched into it.

“Not too bad.” Miles says looking in the mirror.

“Alright mate let’s head out.”

They reach the pub it looking as lively and loud as Hobie had seen it last.

He looks over at Miles with a glint of excitement and seeing that Miles returns the same look they both walk in.

Hobie does recognize some faces but seeing many new.

He keeps Miles close but not too close wanting him to really take in and see the easy going music filled booze energy going around.

They take a seat at the bar Hobie ordering just a shot of vodka for himself and a Coke for miles, opting to not drink as much.

He and Miles end up with easy conversation talking about some of the missions and criminals they both had stories on.

Feeling a tap on his shoulder he turns to see Alec, a friend of a friend to hobie and also former one night stand.

Feeling the energy go stiff for a second he reaches out and pulls him into a handshake.

“Hey Alec! how has the night been treating you mate?” Hobie says turning away from Miles.

“It was shit until I saw those wicks knew it was you from a mile away.” He says returning the handshake suddenly locking eyes with Miles.

Hobie catches the moment and introduces them to each other hoping it would get this sour energy away.

“Alec this is Miles, Miles this is Alec.”

Miles reaches out first smiling saying a quick nice to meet you.

Alec merely stares at his hand and returns the gesture after a few seconds

“good to meet you too.” he says stiffly.

Confusion flashes in Miles’s eyes wondering when the mood shifted to whatever this was.

The guy was pretty he will say that, fair brown skin, hazel eyes and long black hair that almost reaches past his arms.

Seeing Hobie quickly reel the guy into a conversation he feels sort of off.

Was he one of Hobie’s lovers?

Miles shook his head wanting to not get mopey over something that wasn’t even serious. Hobie was allowed to do what and whom he wanted.

Still though he swore he could see something in Hobie’s eyes when they would make eye contact.

He thought maybe tonight was the night that he would confess but funny how things seem to change.

He looks over the crowd noticing that a band was setting up to perform live.

The pub was what he imagined very lively and just overall free.

He stares for a little while turning back to the bar seeing that Alex or whatever his name was leaning closer to Hobie than he was before.

Miles suddenly feeling sour not jealousy no he was just bored.

yes nothing else just bored..

Hobie feels himself slightly getting annoyed because this quick conversation he intended to have was seeming to not end.

He glanced towards Miles seeing that he had turned around looking off into the crowd.

Fuck , Hobie thought.

He had gotten too side tracked wanting Alec to bug off that he forgot the reason he brought Miles’s here. He wanted to show Miles this side of him his world, his home.

He hears the band start asking for anyone who would like to start them off with a song.

Seeing that as a way to one, walk away from Alec and the conversation all together and two, impressing Miles with a song.

Hobie jolts up taking the shot he had saved and asks to sing the song failing to remember that Alec was a guitarist and obnoxiously clingy tonight.

He quickly follows Hobie both getting on stage. Not giving up, he plans to just part ways with Alec after this to finallyshow miles around and just spend tonight with him.

He shoots Miles a wink as he chooses the song

I Wanna Be Yours by the Arctic Monkeys.

Miles smiles, that was the first song he showed to Hobie while they were trying each others music taste.

He leans into Hobie’s voice as he sings taking a sip of his drink and turning back.

you call the shots, babe i just wanna be yours.

He locks eyes with Hobie it felt like electricity he felt that connection he had been yearning to prove was actually there.

Before he could even try and decipher it he sees Alec walk up and lean his head onto Hobie strumming the cords. He watches Hobie’s eyes shift away from his to Alec’s.

Oh.

Miles feels himself pause.

This isn’t some fleeting romance between the two, no this was something serious to Hobie something he was going to make consistent.

He lets the thought dawn on him turning away from the stage not bearing to look into his eyes again.

He chugs down the drink he had suddenly tasting bile in the back of his throat.

His stomach was twisting how could he let himself be so stupid.

Of course Hobie thought he was just a friend. He never meant any of the hugs or the subtle cuddling they would accidentally get into when Miles’s bed proved to be too small for the both of them to be anything more than casual bonding.

But it felt so real.

Miles gets up asking for the bathroom he needs a breather to get himself together and not spoil the rest of the night for Hobie nobody likes a downer in a pub.

When Hobie made eye contact with Miles he felt it.

He felt the love in it he felt the bond he ached to have with Miles since he met him.

Miles saw him, He saw Hobie for Hobie.

He never tried to change him he listened when Hobie would rant about his views and opinions god the dude drew him like it was nothing.

He aches for Miles.

Getting pulled out of his thoughts he feels Alec lean on him. He just looks at him confused but just continues to sing.

When nearing the end of the song he looks over to Miles’s spot at the bar, it’s empty?

He looks around not seeing Miles anywhere.

did he leave? where could he have gone? Hobie thought.

Alec pulls him aside asking if he would want to sing one more song, Hobie agrees without thinking preoccupied wondering where his little spider wondered off to.

Miles returns back feeling a tad bit better he’ll just have to cry about this later when he’s home. He looks up and sees that Hobie and Alec are singing again a different song this time.

He doesn’t bother trying to recognize it looking over to the bartender. He asks for another Coke and seeing someone starting to approach him from the corner of his eye.

Miles looks over to see a guy looking a little older but definitely close to his age.

He had long curly hair shaped into a longer type of mullet and a set of brown eyes.

He dressed more like a biker than anything and had a few rings on.

“Hey.” says the man

“Hi?” Miles says looking around to make sure he was talking to him.

“you new in town? I haven’t seen you around here before”

“oh uh yeah first time here..” he pairs with a awkward chuckle remembering what Hobie said to do when approached.

“I don’t mean to scare you or anything i’m not looking to mess with you I just wanted to have a chat i’m Ricky and you are?”

“Miles it’s nice to meet you.” He reaches out to shake his hand.

Maybe this night wouldn’t be so bad after all?
