“Family.” Daisy weakly replied. She’s so cold, yet so warm. It’s a weird feeling. She’s never experienced something like it before. The only close description she could find was the cold sweats, but even that isn’t really accurate.

She tried to sit up, but can’t. She’s too weak. The family surrounding her noticed her attempt, “Just stay where you are for now. When we get back to the lighthouse Simmons will check you out.” Her father figure said, in his regular, soft, comforting voice.

“I’ll go get something cushiony for your head.” Kora said, a bit awkwardly. Daisy feels Kora's tone is due to Kora feeling out of place with the Shield team.

She quickly ran back with a little pillow, and lifted Daisy’s head a little (which causes her to wince) and slid the pillow under.

During the trip back to the lighthouse, Coulson refused to leave her side. He intertwined his hand with hers. She has always loved the feeling of Coulson’s touch, even if it isn’t really him, and just a copy. She shut her eyes, but doesn't sleep. She’s exhausted and worn out, but she has so much energy at the same time, (thanks to Kora).

Once the Lighthouse’s ocean hanger door opened and the plane was able to land, the cargo ramp doors lowered. Simmons was already waiting with a stretcher and Piper. The two began to roll it up onto the plane, but the man out of time runs in front of them, determined to be the first one to see her.

He rushed right to Daisy’s side.

Coulson noticed and finally detached himself from Daisy’s grip and stepped aside to give the two privacy.

He placed his hand on her cheek, gently rubbing his thumb over her cheekbone. “Hey.” He whispered as his eyes become a little shiny.

“Hi.” She strained.

Who knew just a little whisper would take so much effort.

“That was stupid.” He said, “Brave, but stupid” His eyes shimmered.

“I’m going to have to break up this reunion.” The British Lady said, approaching the pair on the ground.

Sousa lifted Daisy onto the stretcher, his heart breaking when she lets out a little cry of pain from the slightest touch and movement.

He grabbed her hand, and walked next to the stretcher as Piper and Simmons wheeled her off.

Once back on the base, Simmons began her assessment. She removed Daisy’s gauntlets, and the top part of her suit, leaving her in her black tank top and mission pants. Sousa refused to leave the room. He just stares at Daisy in awe. He is amazed by her strength, even more than before. He can’t help but be in love.

Daisy let out noises of distress during the exam. No matter how gentle Simmons is, it still hurts. But, after every noise, she apologizes. Simmons kept informing her she has nothing to be sorry for.

After what feels like a millennia for Daisy and Sousa, Simmons finished her exam.

She then connected Daisy to an IV. “The IV will help. I recommend lots and lots of blankets and for you to take it easy.” Simmons shared. “I’ll check up with you daily for about a week.”

Daisy still looks pale, and fragile.

Breakable.

“I’ll be back, I’m going to grab you a few things from your bunk.” The biochemist said, breezing past Sousa and exiting the room.

He moved his chair closer to where she was laying.

He ran his fingers through her hair, shocked at how soft it is, especially even after death.

She grabbed ahold of one of his suspenders to help pull herself up. Once Daniel realizes what she’s attempting, he places a hand on her back and helps guide her. She grunts and winces, but is able to sit up.

She hung her feet off the edge of the bed, and Sousa sat down next to her. He placed his hand on her back, and rubbed soothing gentle circles. Her head fell onto his shoulder.

“Thank you,” She said softly “for being here.”

“For you? Anytime.” He replied.

Her arms were covered in bruises, but luckily no breaks. Just sore bruised arms in exchange for the safety of the world.

Simmons re-entered the room, holding some folded items.

“Some leggings and a t-shirt paired with a very warm blanket and your little bootie slippers.” She smiled, placing them on the bed.

Daisy quickly realized the fuzzy lavender blanket is Simmons, the one she always wrapped herself in when the two of them would have downtime in space while searching for Fitz. The one they both snuggled under when having girls nights.

“Your blanket? Really?”

“Of course. You love it, don’t you?”

“Yes but-“

“Don’t mention it. It’s a thank you for saving the world.” She said with a smile, cutting Daisy off.

They both helped her change into the pair of black leggings and the maroon flowy loose t-shirt. She’s was in too much pain and was too tired to care that he’s helping undress her.

The shirt is one of Daisy’s favourites. It’s so soft. She usually wears it when she's hurt. Its not tight, or scratchy. It’s perfect.

Sousa leaned down and helped her put the bootie slippers on. He then wrapped the lavender blanket around her shoulders. She smiled feeling the soft material on her skin. It smells like Jemma's perfume she’s always stealing.

Simmons and Sousa each take one of her sides, and act as anchors. They help her lift up off the bed and onto her feet.

She wobbles around for a second.

“You ok?” Simmons immediately asked.

She looks up at a slightly taller Sousa, giving him a smile before turning back to Simmons, “Yeah, I am”.

They help her walk out of the room. One of Sousa’s hands is around Daisy’s waist, and the other gripped around her IV pole rolling it, so she didn't have to maneuver it herself.

“Are you two good?” Simmons asked.

The pair responded with a nod.

“Lovely. There’s someone I want you to meet.” The scientist let go of Daisy, leaving Sousa to support her, and lead them in the direction of the lounge.

As the approached the lounge, Daisy heard a little child’s giggle which confused her. As she entered the room, she immediately understood.

The little blonde girl, who must be at least 4, is climbing on top of Mack with her little hands on his bald head. Fitz sits on the couch across, watching her with the widest smile. Yo-Yo as well.

Mack looked like he was having the time of his life.

Daisy looked at Simmons, with her mouth gaped wide open. Tears are already filling her eyes.

Simmons is a mom.

“Alya, this is your Auntie Daisy we’ve told you all the stories about!” Simmons exclaimed to the little girl, named Alya, in the most sweet mom voice ever. A tone that suits Simmons perfectly and naturally. Jemma Simmons and motherhood are honestly the best match.

The little girl turns her head to Daisy, gives the cutest smile and wave which causes Daisy to melt inside. The little girl quickly turns her attention back to her expedition of climbing 'Mount Mack'.

Daisy adjusted her grip on the blanket around her, and her and Sousa sat down side by side on an empty part of the couch.

He kept her arm wrapped around her. The two watch the giggly blonde girl with admiration. Her little accent caused Daisy to chuckle every time.

When the evening rolls around, Simmons had to bring tragic news to her daughter.

“Time for bed, Sweetie”

Alya tried to protest, but inevitably gave in once Fitz bribed her with her favourite bedtime story.

Simmons then turned her attention to Daisy. “You too.” she said.

Daisy laughed and raised an eyebrow, “What?”

“You need your need sleep. Doctors orders.”

“Are you serious?”

“As death.”

“Wow. Funny.” She says, very sarcastically.

“If you want, I’ll read you a bedtime story.” Sousa piped in with a mischievous smile.

Daisy lightly shoved Sousa's head.

“Nonsense! When I’m done reading to Alya, I’ll come to your bunk and read to you!” Fitz said.

Daisy rolls her eyes and laughs. “Oh ha ha Fitz, so funny.”

“Do you also want me to do the voices? I can. I’m awfully good at it.” Fitz smiled.

Fitz and Alya exited the lounge and headed to her room.

“Chop, chop!” Simmons told Daisy.

Sousa helped Daisy up off the couch and to her bunk, guiding her the whole way.

He then undressed her and re-dressed her in pyjamas. She still doesn't mind.

He gets her into her bed and tucks her in under the covers.

“If you want.. you could stay here tonight.” she spoke up.

The answer catches him off guard, but he quickly responds with; “I’d love nothing more.”

“I’ll be right back.” He then said, exiting her room.

He arrived back minutes later in a shield issued t-shirt and sweat pants. He lay down on the small couch in her room.

”You really are a square.” she scoffed.

“What?” he responded, confused as to why she would be calling him that.

“When I asked you to stay I didn't mean the couch.” she laughed, rubbing her head.

“Oh.” he said, standing up and walking over to the empty side of the bed. He sat on top of the covers, and she looked over at him.

“I'm really glad you're here.” she told him.

He literally left his whole life, his whole timeline- just for her.

Moments later there was a knock at the door.

“Come in.” Daisy called.

Fitz popped his head in, and held up a children’s book with a monkey on the cover. “Offer still stands if-“

“Oh shut up.” Daisy laughed, cutting him off.

He grins. It was the most ‘annoying-little-brother-up-to-no-good’ grin he had ever given her.

His grin fades into a loving smile. “Goodnight Daisy. I’m glad you’re okay.” Fitz says, in a loving brother tone.

“Goodnight Fitz.” She replied.

He flicked the lights off on his way out, and Daisy quickly fell asleep, comforted by Sousa's presence.
