chapter 3
You introduce yourself properly to Jess and Peter, and they explain the nature of the watch to you, and also the fact that there are infinite multiverses and all that shit.
“wait wait wait so let me get this straight..” you sat in one of the pews with your head in your hands, “so.. there are hundreds of spider men from other universes and they’ve formed a league to protect the multiverse..?”
“yeah that’s pretty much it” peter is scrolling through his phone, talking to his wife who he mentioned several times before.
“aaaand you want to recruit me into this elite spider-man club??”
“yup.” Jess adds.
And just then it hit you, you remembered where you know peter from.
“OH SHIT WAIT Peter i went to high school with a variation of you! That’s crazy actually-“
“What?? Wait really??? Are we friends??” Peter was just like you remembered.
“Actually uh.. you kind of……”
“Yeah what is it???”
“you died. in my universe….” you paused as you watched Peters face shift to a tone of seriousness. “..some kind of freak lab accident.”
Peter turns to Jess whose face is solemn, “do you think that’s his canon?” Peter speaks quietly to Jess.
“My what??”
In another long winded explanation, you come to understand canons too.
“Wow that’s.. that’s heavy.”
“I know, and it sucks, but it has to happen one way or another, we’ve tried breaking the canon and.. it didn’t exactly end well.” Jess is solemn, and you can see the sadness creeping onto her face.
“I lost my best friend, we knew each other from when we were in middle school.” you tilt your head to the ground. “He worked for alchemax, he was kind of like my guy in the chair.” you chuckle to yourself, “he designed all of my gear, he had such a brilliant mind.” you paused, “He died because of my negligence-“ you stop yourself, you had made too much progress to start regressing now. “..we were very close.”
You look back up to the two of them, stifling the ache in your throat. “Losing my best friend was my Canon.”
Peter and Jess look at each other and seem to come to a silent agreement.
“If you’re free right now, we can take you to headquarters” Peter smiles at you, “actually, we planned on recruiting you in a separate mission but since you’re here, we might as well get two birds with one stone right??”
