Hobie was having a good week. He hasn't spent it upset about Miles and Gwen's engagement. Until this morning he had an invite saying he's been invited to the wedding as Miles best man. Hobie won't say no, but damn, this will hurt like hell.
He already had his suit in his closet, next to the outfit he wore the day he was supposed to confess. The day Miles told him Gwen is now his girlfriend. The day that Hobie's world fell apart for the last time.
It's been two years since he wore that outfit, and just like this wedding will be the last time he ever wears a suit. Hobie has always hated consistent and labels, but damn wouldn't he have changed that for Miles. Love is a scam after all.
So how is a month later he ended up at the wedding, looking the best he ever has? He did this all for a bloke who was marrying his best mate. Hobie loves Gwen, genuinely, but it's time like this he's envious of her.
Miles wants to get married, and he wants it perfectly. It's a big crowd, mixed between Miles' family and Gwen's. Hobie wishes this was for a different reason, but he knows it's not. Miles loves Gwen, more than anything.
Miles' uncle is preaching the service, because it has always been one of Miles' dreams. Out of all his family members, Miles has always loved his uncle to the point he wanted him to preach his wedding.
Since it's a no kid wedding, they're having magnolias in Gwen's country family house. There's around one hundred people, because they were strict with the wedding rules. Pavitr is here with his wife, Hobie knows this.
Hobie plans on making it through the service without crying, because nobody should see he's in love with one of them. He can't ruin Miles' wedding, but he can't keep hurting himself. Miles wants to get married, but not to Hobie. Never Hobie.
Hobie remembers the night two years ago when he almost kissed Miles. They were at their favorite cafe, talking, when they got closer. Of course they didn't kiss, because they pulled away before it happened, but Hobie could've sworn there was disappointment on Miles' face.
Hobie was freaking out when he got home, because Miles has been his friend for the past few years. Miles was eighteen at the time of the almost kiss, but they met when Miles was fifteen.
Till this day, Hobie wonders if Miles ever felt the same because Lord did it look like it. Maybe he did before he got with Gwen, maybe he still does, or maybe it was just Hobie hopes.
When Hobie got the invite, he knew he was too late. He couldn't hold on to a what if anymore, because Miles is finally moving from the fiance status to husband.
Hobie knows Jefferson and Rio have been dreading the day Miles would be married. The day Miles wouldn't be their little boy anymore. He's now someone else's future, forever.
Oh, but they don't know they aren't the only ones giving him away. They aren't the only ones watching a loved one getting married. They aren't the only ones wondering about their marriage and the way it'll go.
Taking another drink from his flask as he watches more guests crowd around. Miles probably has his suit on now, welcoming guests now. Standing there with his bright smile, never *wavering* once. Standing there with Gwen under his arm, as he talks to all the people entering now.
Hobie could try to find him and get everything off his chest. He could try to find him and tell him everything he felt over the years for the younger boy, and how he can't watch this wedding.
That if Hobie didn't have respect, but he does. He can't ruin this for Miles, not after all these years. He knew Miles would never be his, but it didn't hurt to hope. He knew Miles would find a girl, start a life, and never look back. He knew Miles was never his.
So now Hobie's in his suit, hiding in the back. He's doing strong shots of whiskey out of his flask. He'll try to make it through without crying, so nobody sees that Miles wants to get married. But he isn't going to marry Hobie.
He can't do this wedding. It hurts too much. He leaves the wedding without saying goodbye, because he can't- he can't watch it.
It's been thirty minutes since he left. Since he went to their favorite cafe, forcing himself not to cry. He's drinking coffee now, when he looks out the window and he sees Miles walking to the cafe door.
Wasn't he supposed to be getting married right now? Hobie looks down at his drink. Maybe he's already married, and came to get something.
Hobie still doesn't look up when he feels someone slide into the seat next to him. He knows it's Miles, it always is. What he doesn't expect to hear, is exactly what he hears. "I couldn't get married, because she's not you."
He freezes, Miles didn't marry Gwen because she wasn't him? After all this, he couldn't marry a girl. Because she wasn't Hobie. He wants Hobie. "Let's elope." Falls out of his mouth before he can realize it.
"Then let's elope, I've already disappointed most of my family." Miles agreed. And well, that's exactly what they do. They won't ever do anything normal, so why start now? No wedding, no ceremony, no dating before hand, just eloping.
