rain drops
Gwen and Miles were desperately trying to stop a falling building, although she seemed to have everything under control, her mind was going 100 miles per hour. She felt her breathing getting faster and faster as her thoughts flooded her ears, she couldn't hear anything else.
What's going on?
Why hasn't Pav said anything?
Did they beat him?
Is it over?
There's pieces of debris are falling everywhere.
We can't save everyone.
Her breathing got uneven while she was scrambling everywhere trying her best to stop this building before it fell into a nearby park. Quickly, she swung across the building webbing multiple parts of the structure frantically before swinging up to the neighboring building, trying her best to hold it up. She felt her arms begin to shake while desperately grasping her webs, as if she cold hold up this building herself. She shut her eyes that were slowly building up tears from the pain that her feet and legs felt. A loud ringing began in her ears drowning out everything around her.
"Gwen!"
Her head snapped towards the distressed call horrified to see her best friend, falling. She was confused at first until she saw Miles hitting his wrists panicking as he felling quickly to the concrete.
His webshooters.
Without thinking, she let go of the building and desperately swung to Miles, she couldn't lose him. Her breathing was fast and panicked as she tried her hardest to reach Miles.
"No, no, no, no, no"
She didn't realize she was speaking out loud but that was the least of her concerns, she was above Miles trying to catch him before he hit the ground. She stuck onto the side of a building and released three strings of web towards her friend. She felt her heart skip a beat while she watched her web stick to him, it skipped another when she heard a loud thud against the ground as her lifeless friend went limp.
All that could be heard was a blood curdling scream.
She couldn't contain the noises that came out of her as she swung down screaming and crying while holding Mile's body. Her chest heaved up and down, she felt like she couldn't breath. She couldn't save him,
it was her fault.
Before she could think to do anything her watch lit up, it was Pav.
"Gwen what have you done."
His voice was cold and empty, she tried to speak but nothing came out.
"Gwen what did you do"
Pav repeated sounding angry yet his words sounded empty at the same time.
"It wasn't... I didn't.."
She just sat there still holding Miles speechless, and heartbroken.
"Gwen what did you do."
"Gwen how could you let this happen"
"Gwen"
"Gwen"
"Gwen"
The voices got louder and louder in her head, they were her friends voices, her family, her classmates, teachers, everyone. Everyone was calling her, everyone was yelling at her, she couldn't handle it, she covered her ears but the voices had burst out from under her hands becoming louder than ever. She began sobbing hopelessly, it felt like it would never end.
"Miles!"
She shot awake her breathing rapid and frantic, tears covered her face dripping off her chin, rolling down her neck. She was sweaty and her clothes were sticking to her. What a mess. She sighed and began to calm down and pulled her knees to her chest. Her heart was still beating incredibly fast but she began to calm herself, slowly.
Before she completely caught her breath her door busted open.
"Gwen? What's going on?" It was her father. She sighed and waved over to signal where she was. He quickly noticed how panicked she looked, he flashed a light smile and sat by her in on her bed in an attempt to make her feel better.
"You alright?" She shook her head, not saying a word. Her dad wrapped an arm around her,
"Just, calm down, I'm guessing it was a dream?" He questioned and Gwen just nodded and closed her eyes. He pulled her closer, she listened to his heartbeat, counting how many times it beat as she calmed her breathing. They stayed like that for a while until she was calmed enough to start speaking.
"I'm sorry, I didn't mean to scare you." She mumbled pulling away from her fathers embrace.
"Don't be sorry, I know I can't do much about your multidimensional problems, but I can at least comfort my daughter." He said with a light chuckle. Gwen just smiled but it faded as she looked through her window, it was raining. Gwen's expression didn't go unnoticed by Gwen's father however.
"You know, this reminds me of old times, when you were just a child." Gwen looked towards him in confusion slightly tilting her head.
"I doubt you remember. But, whenever it was rainy and thundering outside, you would be so scared insisting it was some sort of monster trying to break into our house." Gwen's father smiled at the memory, pausing for a second before continuing.
"I wasn't sure what to do at first but over time, whenever it would rain, we would just sit on the couch, or the floor, or your bed and I'd wrap you in a blanket and hold you while you calmed down. You would listen to my heartbeat or my breathing and you would slowly fall asleep and sleep through those storms." He smiled fondly at the memory and the way his eyes slowly filled with tears didn't go unnoticed by Gwen.
"I think I do remember that, actually" She said leaning back into her fathers embrace curling up and smiling, almost forgetting about why she was up in the first place. Her father pulled her into a hug resting his head on hers.
He couldn't help the tears that fell when he closed his eyes.
Gwen smiled and closed her eyes as well, living in the peaceful moment observing everything around her, the way her fathers legs hung off the bed, the small sniffles she heard coming from him, the way her blanket was scrunched up and hanging off the bed, the small taps of rain against her window, and most importantly,
the calming beat of her fathers heart.
She smiled and listened to the calm beating, opening her eyes for a second before closing them and slowly drifting off the sleep without a care because she knew that she would be okay.
