Chapter 1
In a room full of people, no one would choose Miguel O'Hara.
Yeah, you have to admit, no one.
Indeed.
Obviously.
Miguel O'Hara is angry, intimidating, manipulative, lonely, passionate.
He doesn't know how to love, but if given the chance, he'd press his body against the creature that chose him.
He would love infinitely, to the point of insanity, to the point of ruthlessness.
But would anyone have chosen him, anyone at all, please say yes.
Miguel goes wild. Over time, his senses sharpen and every part of his body becomes drenched in pain. Every nasty idea becomes a reality, every gesture in his direction is seen as an attack.
He becomes uncontrollable, fearful, arrogant.
He sits on his throne, standing on shards of memories of happier days. More and more he becomes like a predator quietly awaiting prey. New, smaller spiders fall into his web, they are so naive, kind and fragile. Miguel is supposed to guide them, to watch their loved ones die, to say that there was no choice, that it had to happen.
But somewhere inside, in the core of the rotten apple lodged a distinct "they're not guilty".
Of course they could have saved them, their Gwen, their uncles, aunts, daughters, fathers, mothers.
They could have.
But they didn't.
For some sinister reason, they blindly trust him. That power blinds him to himself. But he doesn't care anymore.
He will be stronger than the others even if he is blind, even if he loses his sight he will lead the others, he will be strong and bite off the head of anyone who gets in his way.
Tear it up, eat it, kill it, burn it, destroy it.
Yes.
Because he's a beast, he has to be.
He'll be cruel and lonely, strong and unapproachable.
That's the way it has to be, someone has to take on that role.
Chapter 1. The Prisoner of Thought.
Miles Moralez is one of thousands, one of many, he is no different from them, from his retinue. This boy is cannon fodder, he has no personality, he is stupid, naive, kind, arrogant.
But unlike Miguel, he has no power.
An arrogant child.
Miguel stares at the boy, trying to find something in the teenager's face.
No. There's nothing in Miles, just naivety, he's as blind as everyone else before him.
There are stand out spiders that need special attention.
Subtitle "The Standouts" Chapter 1. Act - 1.
Hobart Brown.
British, anarchist, defies logic.
Interesting guy, thought-provoking point of view, but his attitude towards Miguel is boorish. He openly mocks Miguel, behaves childishly, keeps to himself.
Brown can be sent on difficult missions, but don't expect him to answer the phone.
Gwen Stacy.
The girl is strong, reserved, controllable.
Phenomenal stamina, good reactions.
Unconventional personality, no clear evidence of her fidelity.
Peter B. Parker.
A separate character, you just have to look at him and he runs to you with open arms and tries to make you laugh. It's just horrible.
Uncontrollable and unresponsive to manipulation, he's used to Miguel and treats him like a brother, which angers O'Hara.
Always with his daughter, which secretly pleases Miguel.
Margot Kess.
The girl is a professional of her work, interesting personality curious abilities. Suspected of shirking work, overly arrogant, shuns Miguel but mostly ignores his existence.
Penny Parker.
Strong. Depressed. Doesn't respond to orders. Specific bond with the robot. Silent. No trust.
Pavitr Prabhakar.
Excellent pawn, obeys Miguel but doesn't cross the line, however has been communicating with Hobi as of late.
This guy could get in the way.
Peter B. Parker 2.0.
Overly secretive, socialises with Peter B. Parker, Hobart Brown, Swine-Spider, tends to be colour blind.
Spider-Pig.
Emotional, cartoonish personality. Has ties to Noir and Penny, outgoing but not overly so.
Good sense of humour.
Miguel trusts no one, he looks at everyone with anger, crossing his arms over his chest and lifting his chin. No one, ever, for anything or under any circumstances.
Not anymore.
- Hello," Miles Moralez squints, "nice to meet you," Miguel hums smugly. Of course, how could he not be glad to meet him. He's almost a God, a living embodiment of the ideal, how could anyone not want to meet him?
That's right. Everybody does.
Miles is waiting for an answer, but Miguel has decided this guy isn't worth a fraction of his attention. Another spider, another string of deaths following in Spider-Man's wake.
- He doesn't know," Hobie says suddenly. 'Cheeky, how dare he say then when he feels like it? Mrzavec, mistake, anomaly.
- Oh, doesn't know about a canonical event? Gwendalyn, did you not tell your friend about such an important thing? - An angry, anticipation-sparking spark lit up inside Miguel. Right now he could be amused by the fear Miles felt.
If someone else were in Miles' shoes, Miguel would have pulled the same thing - it didn't matter who the newcomer was, it mattered how he reacted.
A moment, the chase feels like a moment, but it lasts far from a second. It lasts a long time, and then Miguel suddenly feels the beastly grin on his stooped, tired face. He feels the incredible anger wrapping him in a cocoon, the anger spreading through his veins, the anticipation smouldering in his heart, his hands digging into the cold metal and allowing him to overcome a few more metres.
Higher and higher, towards his goal, further and further away, as far as he can go. Here he feels his cloth-covered fingers digging into the boy's neck, his breath burning the young man's ear, a hitherto incomprehensible savagery oozing through his body.
Miguel is now full of hatred, fear, sadness. The man doesn't remember himself now, only knows that he must stop Miles, prevent him from interfering with a canonical event.
For if he interferes, it will mean he will be happy.
No one should be happy.
After all, Miguel himself is far from happy.
He's depressed, feral, lonely, crazy.
But far from happy.
The man has always known that his happiness would be violated, but he's never been able to accept it.
So he deprives others of their happiness.
Let them also be bad, let everyone suffer, let there be fear and pain on the face of every Spider-Man.
After all, shouldn't he be depressed when everyone else is happy?
Of course not.
But when the portal to Miles' dimension closes, and Miguel's animal claws still feel the burning pain at the base, O'Hara realises - why, in a room full of people, no one will choose him.
