When you tell me I’m the reason, i just can’t believe your lies.

Charlotte wasn’t in the country at the time it happened, hell she still isn’t. She was enjoying her vacation with her wonderful husband for a couple of weeks after that tough match at Wrestlemania with Rhea Ripley. Sure she lost the belt but that doesn’t matter too much to the blonde, she’ll know she will get another opportunity and win. It’s only a matter of time before she surpasses her father with number of championships. Plus that Rhea kid is one tough cookie. She deserved the win, the blonde hadn’t stopped smiling since, thinking about how hard they had both fought in that match. If nothing she was a showman and loved a good battle.

So this morning when the soft sounds of the Hawaii ocean coming through the balcony window stirred the blonde awake, she turned away from her deep sleeping husband and towards the side table. Charlotte looked at her phone as to weather she should open that Pandora’s box and see the time or more likely check her social media posts. She had promised she would not check any of her apps while on holiday but the temptation was beginning to be too much.  She hadn’t been on her phone in almost a week and she usually likes to to see what happened on Raw and Smackdown. Even while away Charlotte doesn’t switch off from wrestling and she likes to keep tabs on the women’s division, her friends and even the ones she doesn’t speak to anymore.

After a few minuets of scrolling through she stopped, her heart felt like it had fallen into her stomach ‘not again’ her voice croaked out, being the first words she spoken of the day. Once the video finished she watched it back multiple times. Trish Stratus one of the most respected, trail blazing women in the business had turned heel on Becky. Why did it have to be Becky. It’s always Becky. The way her body lay in the ring, her auburn curled hair covered the look of hurt and betrayal that the blonde knew was there. She knew all too well that it was there and it killed her a little bit knowing she had once done that to her former best friend. This was at least the fifth time this had happened to Irish woman. Yes Charlotte herself had been one of those people but that was a young, rash Charlotte she tried to rationalised to herself. A Charlotte that was trying to teach a tough lesson. One she’d had thought Becky would have learned by now. She tapped her fingers on the side of the phone contemplating what to do next.

She surprised herself that she wanted to text Becky, check up on her. Especially since they hadn’t spoke outside of work in years. They didn’t really speak at work other than the occasion hi. Too much time had past with unsaid words and sheepishly shared looks that desired a connection like the one only they had all those years ago. The blonde took in a deep breath and typed. She hesitated a little before she finally hit send.

Charlotte: I just saw. Im sorry about Trish

She stared at the check mark, waiting for it to go blue. it was 4 in the morning. There wasn’t much chance Becky would be up.

Charlotte decided that would be the end of it. Becky isn’t going to text her back and even if she did, it wouldn’t be till later. She tried to close her eyes and forget about the whole ordeal but she couldn’t help but toss and turn with anxiousness. Why did she just text Becky? That was so stupid.

She checked her phone again. The check marks were blue. Becky had read her message. Charlotte sat up with eagerness and to get a better angle to continue staring at her phone.

Becky is typing…

Then back to nothing.

Becky is typing…

Again it stopped and nothing. Charlotte took a sharp breath and cursed Becky for taking so long. Then her phone vibrated.

Becky: It’s fine, I’ll live.

Without missing a beat the blonde typed back.

Charlotte: Ok good. You need to stop trusting people Becky.

She held her breath when she saw Becky was typing.

Becky:  It’s all good. I got an amour suite from a guy, you wouldn’t know him. Nothing can keep me down for too long anymore.

Charlotte smiled to herself at the silliness of Becky’s humour. She had changed so much over the years but that had remained the same.

Charlotte: Since when did you have that lol

Becky: Since you.

Charlotte almost audibly gasped. She hadn’t expected two simple words to have so much weight behind them. It blindsided her. Especially since she thought their conversation was going quite well. It hurt. Her brows frowned with anger as the memories of the friendship they once had came rushing back

Charlotte: Don’t do that. Don’t lie like that.

Becky: I have always been upfront with you, that hasn’t changed.

Becky: and you had asked

Becky: Outside of Seth and my child, I can’t trust anyone again like I trusted you.

Charlotte’s mind raced with a million thoughts. So many mixed feelings. So many things that need to be said that would never be said. She could try one thing. Something that had been coming for a long time.

Charlotte: I’m sorry

Becky is typing….

Then nothing

Becky is typing….

Then nothing again

Charlotte waited for 10 more minutes, but the words Becky is typing did not show up again. She placed her phone faced down and rested her head on the pillow and placed it against her cheek. She would try and wipe away any tears that came out hoping in time she would fall back to sleep.

********

I miss you

It was typed in her message box just waiting to be sent to the blonde. There was a part of Becky that wanted to throw caution into the wind and let Charlotte back in just a little bit. The other, more dominant part was screaming at her to remember what just happened with Trish. This can’t be the way. She’s already the joke of the division right now. Maybe she is the problem. Why dose everyone turn on her. Becky had so many thoughts and questions. She cleared her throat trying her best to stay quite not to disturb anyone. She deleted her message and discarded her phone by the side of her bed. Becky lay on her back to stare at the ceiling. She blinked a couple of times more than usual not noticing the tears that had started streamed down her face.

She realised she hadn’t been completely honest with Charlotte.

It isn’t fine.

It does hurts and it always will.
