Summary
Yelena isn't good at expressing her feelings, but somehow, Kate understands her regardless.A one-shot about the chaotic duo that is Yelena Belova and Kate Bishop.
Note
This is inspired by a story my friend told me about a hair tie :)Enjoy besties!

"I've already sent good vibes your way. They're coming. There's nothing you can do to stop them," Yelena said after finishing her second beer. Her feet lifted her up and dragged her over to her fridge-forcing her to grab another one.

Kate's eyes followed her the whole way, feeling a little loopy. "This is the most threatening way I've ever been cheered up," She chuckled, siping on her drink she forced Yelena to make her. She really didn't like the taste of beer, which Yelena wasn't very fond of.

Yelena sat back down on her small, mint green, IKEA couch, placing a hand on Kate's thigh. "Well, what can I say?" Yelena began before opening the beer bottle with her teeth. "I'm a rather special woman." She raised the bottom of her beer and softly taped Kate's glass, toasting to nothing in particular.

"That, you are," Kate agreed before raising her glass fully to her mouth and taking a big swing.

The room fell into a comfortable silence after that, both girls too occupied with their own thoughts to carry any long conversations. Yelena had never felt so uncertain and confident at the same time about the same thing. Never in any of her missions or relationships to people—even after she was freed from the mind control—has she ever been this scared. She felt something deep and meaningful for the girl next to her. Something she'd never felt before. And if only amplified since they officially started dating.

Kate on the other hand, was drowning in the thoughts about her mother. It's almost been a year since that dreadful night. She's only visited her mother twice. What kind of daughter is she? Apparently arresting her mother on christmas wasn't enough, now she could barely muster up the courage to visit the person who birthed her. Admittedly, her mother wasn't the best, but she was her mother nonetheless. And Kate loved her. Just not enough.

A few minutes passed until Kate broke the silence, not wanting to have to listen to her mind anymore. She asked Yelena the first question she could come up with in her loopy state, "Do you think different laundry detergents taste different?"

"Yes."

"The fact that you answered that so quickly without a doubt, gives me fear," Kate exclaimed while trying to stifle her laughter. "Gosh, you're like, my favorite person in the whole world." Kate slurred out before engulfing the last of her drink and leaning back comfortably in Yelena's couch.

Yelena's heart was running miles on the treadmill that was her brain. Hearing that from the person she cared about the most, was truly euphoric. She placed her beer down on her coffee table and leaned back beside Kate. She found herself fumbling with the hair tie on her wrist—a habit she picked up whenever she was anxious, nervous or just bored.

Yelena released a shaky breath. She's never been good with feeling, especially not explaining those feelings out loud. Both their heads rested against the couch cushion, their gaze on the all so interesting eggshell-white ceiling. Or so Yelena thought.

When she turned her face to look at Kate she noticed that Kate had already been looking at her, a soft smile on her face. Yelena's cheeks quickly turned into a maroon color and she adverted her head to look back up at the ceiling.

As she continued to play with the hair tie on her wrist, Yelena spoke, "I have an idea." She sat up straight and crossed her legs under one another, facing Kate.

"A good one?" Kate chuckled while mimicking Yelena's previous actions. She grabbed one of Yelena's couch pillows and placed it in her lap, clasping her hands over the fluffy object.

"Let's not get ahead of ourselves." Yelena deadpanned, making both of them giggle in their slightly intoxicated state.

When they settled, Yelena began explaining, "When people got a little too close to me, like not physically just, you know, I used too call them by the wrong name, to let them know I didn't really care about them," She rambled, resulting in having to take a deep breath to catch up with her needed oxygen.

Before she could continue, Kate chipped in, "That's a genius move," She confessed—even though Yelena's ego didn't need to get any bigger. Her eyes fixated on the person in front of her—her person—and Kate could tell she wasn't sober anymore.

"Yeah right, thank you," Yelena spoke, not actually sure how to pursue this. The previous information seemed like a foolproof way into her confession, but now, she can't fathom why she even brought it up.

She didn't have much time to think about it as Kate uttered something that made her fuzzy drunken smile even bigger and fuzzier. "You're welcome, Helena," She deadpanned with the smug smile that only appeared on Kate's face when she was messing with someone. As too prove it further, she reached her hands over to Yelena's and started playing with them delicately in her own.

When Kate's warm and gentle hands traced around Yelena's shaking ones her fuzzy smile disappeared in an instant. "Lena? You okay?" Kate asked, intervening both their hands together. She brought one of Yelena's hands to her face and kissed it softly before placing it under her chin.

"Yeah, I'm okay, just," Yelena took a deep breath, trying to calm her ever rising nerves. Kate watched her tentatively, silently waiting for Yelena to continue at her own pace. "Well, I've never felt the need to do that with you. The name thing." She confessed after the silence got too loud. Kate nodded softly, signaling for Yelena to continue. "It's probably just the alcohol talking but," She gazed around the room, like danger was lurking behind every shadow, at least that would explain why her heart was beating so fast. "Well, I actually didn't think I'd get this far." Yelena chuckled lowly, looking down at her lap.

"That's okay" Kate spoke. "Another beer?" Yelena nodded prompting Kate to release their hands so she could fetch Yelena's drink. 'Damn that girl is a fast drinker' she thought as she walked into the kitchen. It was rather small, but Kate always found herself feeling at home in Yelena's kitchen with the chicken-yellow cabinet doors. The atmosphere was calming—relaxed. It was nothing like the kitchen in her childhood home.

Since her hands were free, without thinking, Yelena started fumbling with the hair tie once more. The idea that had popped into her head felt less appealing now. She wanted to dismiss it, it was silly, nothing a former Black Widow would do. But she couldn't stop thinking about how she so badly wanted Kate to know how much she actually cared for her. How she could feel herself falling closer and closer in love with her.

Apparently Yelena was quite deep in her mind because she didn't even notice Kate placing the bottle in front of her on the scrappy coffee table. She was only startled out of her trance when Kate dropped down beside her. She had a new drink in her hand, this one looking a lot more professional then when Yelena made the same one.

"Alright, so," Yelena cleared her throat and Kate maneuvered her body to sit in the same position as Yelena once more. Their knees was touching this time. Yelena fumbled some more with the hair tie until she finally took it off.

Kate furrowed her brows a little when Yelena didn't tie her hair with it, only stared at it like it would grow legs at any second and flee the country. She knew Yelena always wore the hair tie on her wrist, that was nothing new, she would only ever take it off when she used it to tie her hair or when she showered. This one was fairly new, the last one she used snapped when she tried to do a ponytail on Fanny. Kate scoffed softly at the memory, remembering the laughter that erupted from the pair once they actually succeeded with their plan, much to Fanny's dismay—the dog too feed up with the two's antics.

"This is all pretty new, all of it, especially for me," Yelena spoke, breaking Kate out of her walk down memory lane. "And you know I have a hard time expressing what I feel and all of that." She refused to meet Kate's eyes and kept her gaze firmly on the way her hands played with the elastic. "But, I really like you, so," She breathed out and grabbed Kate's right hand, placing the hair tie around her wrist instead. "I'm giving you this hair tie, as a sign. I guess." Yelena mumbled the last part, her thoughts about to float away from her.

'Love is for children!'

She shook her head—trying to get rid her mind of those penetrating thoughts—and looked up to meet Kate's eyes. "I know I want us to be together, whenever that might be on the table," Kate nodded slowly, trying to process everything Yelena was telling her. "So, ehm, whenever you feel ready, or want to take the next step," Yelena fumbled on her words, fidgeting with her naked fingers. A rare occasion—millions of rings usually accompanying them. "You give this back to me." She gestured to her hair tie now on Kate's wrist. "And you don't have to say anything when you do. But when you do, it means you want us together, like girlfriends, or whatever you wanna call it, I'm not-"

Yelena's rambling was cut off when Kate's lips pressed against hers. Yelena instinctively brought her hands up to cup Kate's cheeks, simultaneously dragging Kate's face closer—if possible. Kate's hands went to Yelena's to keep them in place. She lightly brushed her thumb over Yelena's hands, sending butterflies down to the Black Widow's stomach.

They exhaled shakily as they parted, needing more oxygen in their lungs. Kate leaned her forehead against Yelena's while she continued to brush her thumb over her hands. "Thank you. I will." Kate spoke softly, her breath tickling Yelena's skin. She didn't need to say more. Her voice showed all the emotion needed.

Yelena connected their lips again, this time dragging Kate down onto her when she slowly let herself fall back onto the couch. Both of them started giggling in pure bliss at the action. Yelena's hands traveled up and down Kate's back, scratching it slightly over the fabric of her shirt, making Kate hum into the kiss. Yelena took this as an opportunity, licking Kate's lips slightly, asking for permission to enter. Kate opened her mouth and let Yelena take the lead without a fight.

Even though the pair had shared many sleepless nights, they could never get tired of exploring each other. And that night was nothing different. Only, a little bit better. It gave them exactly what they needed. Love, comfort, reassurance and pleasure.

Tony was throwing another one of his infamous parties tonight, which led to Natasha, Yelena and Kate sitting in the car on their way to the mall. They all wanted to wear something new and fresh for the night.

Natasha was driving, of course, Kate in the passenger seat and Yelena in the middle in the back. Yelena was stealing the aux, playing American Pie by Don McLean on repeat. Natasha kept turning the volume down to which Yelena turned it up every time. Kate couldn't help but giggle at the sister's bickering.

Kate had been wearing Yelena's hair tie everyday for the past month, only taking it off when showering. It brought a smile to Yelena's face every time she saw it. Sometimes when she was nervous, Kate would place her hand in Yelena's lap and let her play with the hair tie like she used to. Yelena appreciated it enormously. Just the fact that Kate knew she used to use it as a distraction, but also the fact that the archer could sense what Yelena was feeling.

"Oh for fucks sake!" Natasha groaned when American Pie looped once more. Yelena huffed but finally gave in and turned on Mary on a Cross by Ghost. "Thank you!" Natasha exclaimed, raising her hand in the air for dramatic affect.

"Anything you want to listen to Detka?" Yelena asked, placing her hand on Kate's shoulder from behind. She shook her head, turning it to give Yelena a faint smile. "Big sis?" Yelena retreated back in her seat, scrolling through her road trip playlist with light interest.

"What's that song I like? The cover of like a rock song?" Natasha asked her sister, glancing at her in the review mirror.

Yelena thought for a second, furrowing her brows. She had to change playlists to the one she made together with Natasha to find it. "Oh you mean Smells like teen spirit by Malia J." Yelena answered, queuing the song.

"Hm, that's the one." Natasha mumbled, driving off the highway.

All girls found themselves humming along to the song once it played, soft smiles on all of their faces despite the melancholy lyrics. They managed to squeeze in Enchanted by Taylor Swift and Paper Planes by M.I.A before finally arriving at their destination.

As they stepped out of the car, Yelena took ahold of Kate's hand, intervening their fingers. Yelena kept Kate as close as possible, while staying alert—if anyone would try to attack them.

Kate didn't mind of course. Despite the many times Kate told her she could take care of herself, Yelena still liked to protect her the best she could. Kate might be one of the world's greatest archers and the newest addition to the Avengers, but that didn't mean she was invincible.

"Alright, where you wanna go first, Detka?" Yelena asked as they entered the mall. Natasha rolled her eyes at her whipped sister, although she couldn't be happier for her. Yelena truly deserved the world.

Kate thought for a second before settling on H&M, so that's where they all headed. They decided to make a game out of their shopping—well, rather, Yelena and Kate decided to make a game out of it. They just forced Natasha along for the ride. The game was rather simple, nothing groundbreaking. Natasha was in charge of picking out Yelena's clothes, and whatever she picked, Yelena had to try and then show it on to the other two. Yelena picked Kate's and Kate picked Natasha's.

They all chose the ugliest clothes the could find in the store, along with some nice items to even it out. Since Yelena was so eager to play, she was the one who they forced to model first. Leaving Kate and Natasha a laughing bundle outside the changing room.

"Cyka." Yelena whispered under her breath on several occasions, accompanied with a death glares—mostly directed towards her sister. Yelena got her revenge however when it was Natasha's turn to model. And boy did the younger Black Widow laugh.

Kate wished she could hear that laugh forever. It was her favorite sound after all. Kate felt bliss whenever she heard Yelena's full-belly laugh. Like a kid on christmas morning, ruching down the stairs to see all the presents under the tree. That's what she reminisces it would feel like at least. Christmas as a kid. She don't remember much, and the memories she possesses are rarely fond. But she was sure it'd be the same feeling she's producing right now—because of Yelena's happiness.

She adverted her eyes from Yelena to take a proper look at Natasha's hideous form, dressed in what she assumed not even a homeless person would preserve. Natasha made a grunt before storming back into the dressing room to try on another breathtaking outfit.

Kate was sure Yelena was going to pass out from the limited oxygen that made its way into her lungs. She was folded in half, clutching her stomach and trying her hardest to pull herself together. She didn't want the staff to discover their little game and kick them out for their behavior—and lack of respect for certain clothing items.

————————

After an hour they all finally retreated from the store, more so being pushed out by staff members who banned them from the store—indefinitely. It didn't face them too much and they quickly made their way to another store. This time a fancier one so they could actually search for what they came here for.

Despite their earlier shenanigans, they still had a few hours until Tony's party. Yelena decided a cold beer would satisfy their every need. So before they left the mall they stopped at a restaurant for a much deserved cold brew. And within a few minutes, Yelena had chugged down three, and a half. Kate tried to consume the alcoholic beverage, for Yelena's approval, but damn did she not like the taste of beer. Without having to utter any words, Kate nudged Yelena's shoulder and nodded towards the bottle. Yelena gave a sharp nod back before she started drinking what was left of Kate's beverage.

Yelena insisted on ordering a drink for Kate instead, so she, too, would be satisfied with her alcoholic thirst. Kate finally complied, and let Yelena order her a Cosmo. Not without having a fit about being able to pay herself. Yelena just dismissed her, because when she really liked someone, she wanted to spoil them. Like a real gentlewoman.

Natasha finished some paperwork on her phone while occasionally rolling her eyes at the young adults accompanying her. Without better judgement, she didn't check how much the two actually drank.

After Kate finished her third drink they passed by another intriguing store on their way out and they couldn't resist to walk inside. Since they got kicked out of H&M, Kate didn't have her chance to try on the clothes Yelena picked out for her. Instead, Kate got her turn in this one. She walked the catwalk confidently every time she came out of the dressing room looking like a fool, which earned extra much laughter from Yelena—and even a few full-belly laughs from the Black Widow herself.

Before they got kicked out of another store the three decided to head out of the mall and back into Natasha's car. As Natasha started the drive back to the compound everyone still had crimson colored cheeks from laughing so much. The alcohol didn't help the younger women in their colored cheeks either, only making them warmer and more vibrant.

They were sitting in the same positions as before, joking around about their antics at H&M and Second chance. "Uhh I knew I should have filmed it! The manger's face was priceless!" Yelena exclaimed, leaning forward from the backseat to feel more included.

Kate had a whole laughing fit when being remembered of the look on the poor woman's face. Then a Taylor Swift song played lightly on the radio and Kate was full blown dancing and performing in her car seat, prompting Yelena to mimic her as well.

"I will kick you guys out I swear to god," Natasha grumbled, trying to stay focused on the road. Kate only cracked up the volume higher as she and Yelena danced and sang to each other, laughing as they did so. "Okay get out, I'm done!" Natasha yelled over the music. As to make her point she pulled over to the side and stopped the car.

"Okay, okay." Putting her hands up, Yelena surrendered. "We'll behave," She promised, as if it would be that easy for the two of them to do such a thing.

Natasha only hummed in response, but she started driving once more. Sure Natasha was proud of the woman her sister had become, even thought she was still very much, a pain in her ass. And she was very happy for her and Kate and their development. But god did she hate those two together sometimes.

"What if I'm driving," Kate began and turned the volume down once the song came to an end, "and I press the break and gas at the same time?"

There was no ounce of playfulness behind Kate's voice, prompting the equally serious answer from Yelena, "The car takes a screenshot."

Natasha stomped on the break, making them all fly forwards before retreating in their seats. "For the last time, get the fuck out!" She exclaimed harshly and sent both of them a death glare.

Yelena and Kate only glanced at each other for a split second before they both erupted into two balls of oxygen-sucking laughter-machines.

————————

Somehow, all three of them made it back to the compound in time to get ready for the night. Kate was sure Natasha was going to kick them to the curb at any given moment during the ride, and at one point she did. Before she could drive off however, Kate promised that they wouldn't bother her for the rest of the evening if Natasha refrained, so reluctantly, the redhead agreed.

Kate was currently outside of Yelena's room, just having knocked on the Black Widow's door. Yelena opened in a heist, one foot raised up so she could put on her sneaker and her body leaning against the wall so she wouldn't stumble and fall on her ass.

A small giggle escaped Kate's lips as she watched the scene before her. Nonetheless, Yelena looked breathtaking. She was wearing a black, silk dress that followed her ever curve, ending mid thigh. Her makeup was minimal but with a strong red eye shadow, matching her red purse and sneakers. Her locks had more volume then usual and laid loose on her shoulders. Yeah, breathtaking.

"Wow," Yelena breathed out once she composed herself. "You look," She trailed off, not finding any appropriate words for Kate's ethereal beauty. Yelena straightened out her dress and stood straight, never tearing her eyes away from her date. "How is it you say it in English? Bozhestvennyy."

"Using the big words today are we?" Kate teased with a bright smile, her cheeks turning warm at the compliment. "It's divine. Thank you." Her eyes gave Yelena a warm fuzzy feeling that she couldn't help but beam at. She wanted to catch it in a bottle and keep it forever.

"You ready to go, darling?"

Kate and Yelena walked into Tony's party with their arms linked and bright smiles. Looking around Kate spotted all the usual types of people who'd be here, along with her super friends. Yelena led the way straight to the bar, ordering a beer for herself and a Sex on the beach for Kate.

"Ah, My favorite trouble makers!" A voice boomed through the area, and a second later Thor engulfed the two of them in his athletic arms, crushing all their bones in the process.

Kate looked to Yelena who had a deathly gaze fixated on the god. "Hi Thor. It's still a little too tight bud." She explained before Yelena would rip Thor's head off. They've been over this multiple times with the god already, but it seems like he can't fantom how effortlessly strong he is.

"Oh, sorry M'lady." He let the two of them go, earning a satisfied grunt from Yelena. "How do you fancy this evening thus far?" He question while signaling for a beer to the bartender.

"It was fine until a few moments ago," Yelena uttered under her breath. Kate sent her a quick glare, rolling her eyes at her dates bitterness.

"All good here. How about you, Thor God of thunder?" Kate accepted the drink from the bartender and quickly brought it up to her lips to distract from the hue building on her cheeks. Why was it still so hard to act normal around these people?

"Oh it's been a delight!" His beaming voice exclaimed, earning an annoyed sigh from Yelena. "I'm off to find Daisy but you ladies have a good one, alright." He hugged the two quickly, this time a bit looser. Yelena only stared at him while Kate returned his childish grin.

When Kate turned to Yelena she was already ordering another beer. "I didn't even see you drink once!" Kate exclaimed, baffled.

Yelena chucked, taking a big gulp of her new cold brew. "Just because you take two hours to finish a drink." She grabbed Kate's hand a dragged her away from the bar and towards one of the couches. Yelena led them to a free spot and sat down. Kate tried to sit beside her but Yelena had other plans. She guided Kate to sit on her lap and wrapped her secure arms around her.

Kate shook her head, a grin on her face at Yelena's possessiveness. "Scared I'll leave you for the God?" She teased, a smirk tugging at her lips.

"Shut up."

"Oh you are!" Kate did a little victory dance in Yelena's lap and Yelena couldn't hold her hard glare at the girl she was falling for any longer, instead she smiled at her silliness. Something Yelena truly loved about Kate.

Yelena lowered her head and started kissing Kate's shoulder, and when Kate leaned back into her, the blond started trailing her kisses up Kate's neck. "Fuck you're so sexy." She whispered in Kate's ear before nibbling softly at her earlobe.

Kate turned to face Yelena and crashed their lips together. Within a second Yelena's tongue was exploring the inside of Kate's mouth once again. Kate hummed as Yelena's hands took ahold of her hips—firmly—as her fingers dug into her skin lightly.

The beer and drink was long forgotten on the table before them. The two of them got lost in each other like the rest of the world didn't exist. Which was exactly how Yelena felt whenever she was around Kate. All her worries and all her hurt would fade. All she'd feel whenever she was with Kate, was pure happiness.

"You guys are disgusting." Peter spoke up from beside the two, sitting at a safe distance from their horniness.

"Get fucked." Yelena spoke between kisses. Kate rolled her eyes and pushed Yelena back by her chest, earning a grunt from the blond. "See what you did?"

"Making sure you guys don't have sex in front of everyone. You're welcome!" Peter exclaimed in an amused tone, provoking Yelena to slap his arm.

Kate kissed Yelena softly, a satisfied hum escaping the Black Widow's lips. "Why don't we go upstairs?" The archer questioned with a childish grin.

Yelena didn't respond. Instead she took ahold of Kate under her arms and legs to lift her up. Yelena gave Peter a proud smirk as she carried Kate away—bridle style.

————————

Kate was laying in Yelena's arms, humming as Yelena drew patterns over her naked spine. Kate's hand was draped over Yelena's chest, her fingers mindlessly tracing over it.

"We can go back to the party if you want," Yelena spoke, her raspy voice even more hoarse the usual. The Black Widow placed a kiss on Kate's hair, lingering to let herself breathe in the smell that was Kate Bishop.

"It's okay," The archer spoke, nestling her face further into Yelena's neck. "I'd rather be here with you." She prepared the area with kisses, making Yelena giggle in adoration.

Yelena placed two fingers under Kate's chin, guiding it up to meet her lips. The blond licked her lips subconsciously before placing them on Kate's soft one's. Her hand came to lay on Kate's cheek with her thumb soothing the archer's cheekbone.

When they needed to breathe again Kate pecked Yelena's nose playfully before placing her head on Yelena's shoulder once more. Her vision alined with her hand that was still on Yelena's chest. And with it, the hair tie.

"Hey, Yelena," The Black Widow hummed in response while she continued to trace over Kate's back, sending shivers through the archer's whole body. "I have something for you."

Yelena looked down at the girl in her arms, a confused expression on her face before Kate took the hair tie off her wrist and grabbed ahold of Yelena's hand. Kate placed the hair tie on Yelena's wrist just liked Yelena had done all those nights ago.

She looked up at the Black Widow with hopeful eyes. Yelena's eyes glacéd over slowly, her lips twitching into a genuine smile. Yelena closed her eyes longer then a blink, nodding her head slightly.

Her hand cupped the archer's jaw, her thumb gracing over her mouth and along to her cheek. She leaned in and connected their lips in a soft, gentle and passionate kiss. Pouring all her love into it.

"I love you, Yelena."

It was so sincere and heartfelt that the blond had no choice but to let a few tears fall. Love was definitely not for children—Yelena knew that now—and loving Kate Bishop, that was the easiest thing she's ever done. "I love you too, Moye serdtse."
