Chapter 1

Tori survives the split between the dimensions because she is dragged out of her fallen Zord by a pair of unlikely hands that didn't want to lose everything known to them.

Tori wakes up on the Promethea, one of a small handful of other Rangers that should have died on the moon or in holding cells, injured, but alive, with Cameron pretty much drafted into helping out a universe outside of their own because he is one of an even smaller handful of Rangers that still has active Power.

Tori did not expect to blink awake and find Kapri on an uncomfortable chair beside her sick bed.

The (former) evil space ninja looks as gutted as Tori feels once she's told that they're floating through a dimension far away from what they knew.

None of the other Wind Ninja Rangers are there. Marah isn't there either.

Kapri doesn't know how to communicate sorrow or regret. When Cameron comes around and swoops in to give Tori one of the first voluntary hugs he's probably given anyone, ever, as long as she's known him, Kapri simply slips away and tries not to draw attention to herself.

Three days later, Tori hears from one of the surviving SPD Rangers--the Pink with blonde hair--that Kapri had been crying in one of the communal showers under the water until all the dye in her hair washed out.

When the surfer practically scurried to Grace Sterling and asked what room Kapri had been given, vibrated until the woman gave her the room number, and then bolted through the hallways until she got to the locked door, it took Tori a good twenty minutes just to get up the courage to knock.

It is both terrifying and sobering to find that there was an actual young woman underneath the alien technology and weaponry and what basically amounted to a glamour; opening the door with puffy red eyes, slouching in an oversized exercise jacket and yoga pants. Dark pink and black very off-putting, but not enough to stop Tori from biting the bullet and giving the other a hug.

Kapri did not appreciate this at first, actually flinching back and trying to escape into her room, but Tori kept hold like a dog with a bone--even when Kapri tried tossing her around like a ragdoll and telling her to, "Fuck the fuck off!"

And by the Power, the alien girl was strong. Tori had a feeling a kick from a draft horse was more forgiving.

But Tori had two pinwheels--chocolate swirls around strawberry--and once it became almost impossible for Kapri to keep up the manhandling and cursing and had to wobble herself to the edge of the bed to slam down and start crying again, the Blue took them out and offered one up; the other slipping between her teeth in a show of their not being poisoned.

Kapri would have probably done anything to stop herself from crying, so she didn't think about it, she just took the cookie and made a huge mess from chewing and sobbing at the same time. Drool and tears and crumbs and all of it getting on the bed as she curled up into the fetal position.

But Tori didn't leave. She got into the bed behind Kapri. She grabbed a used towel that had been sitting on the other side of the bed, sopping wet for who knew how long, and dabbed at Kapri's face until most of the mess was off and away. She found another night shirt lying over a desk chair, helped Kapri out of the soiled one covered in spit and cookie residue (eyes focused on tight shut eyes and splotchy red face instead of the fact that Kapri didn't seem to own a bra) and helped maneuver her into it.

She pulled off Kapri's shoes and socks and laid them both down, pulling the blanket over the both of them. Ran fingers through soft blonde hair that had ratted up in knots and snarls, and took in deep breaths so Kapri could follow along and at least come halfway into something like calm.

"What...what are you doing?"

"Comforting you. Or...trying to, anyway."

Kapri blinked, sad and glassy eyed and looked so human that it broke Tori's heart a little bit more as Kapri leaned forward to press her forehead into Tori's clavicle, much stronger arms than Tori's own winding around the Blue Ranger and sighed, "Okay. Yeah, okay."
