Rain Rain Don't Go Away
The thunderous roar cracks through the atmosphere. Not even her earbuds could block the sounds of heavy rain drumming in the background. The sounds of the raindrops hitting on all the hard surfaces. The ground, roof, windows, and everyone's umbrellas. The continuous noise slightly irritates Shuri. A loud rumble came with the lightning and strong wind, she decided to wait for the rain to become a bit smaller before leaving.
She sighs, the moment she got off work, it started raining cats and dogs.
Fuck my life. She curses.
The strong wind howls, and she steps back into the building, dodging the raindrops. She waited for five minutes. And obviously, the heavy rain is not going anywhere. Screw it! Shuri opens her umbrella and leaves the roof when the wind gets smaller as she paces to the train station really quickly.
Still, her shoes and jeans were soaking wet. She grunts, gets into the train, can't wait to get back home and has a hot shower. She shivers in the corner, her legs freezing due to the air conditioner in the train so she makes little stomps on the spot. And soon, she reached her destination and it was raining even more heavily.
She decided to really wait this time since the rain is pouring. Shuri took a turn to stand in the corner and then she saw her husband.
"Ch'ah!" she shouted and successfully startled her husband, Namor, who was shaking his head vigorously to get rid of the water.
"Chaac, you scared me, darling." Shuri walks to him, giggling naughtily at him.
Namor immediately held her hands, warming her up as he could see her shivering while started rambling, "CAN YOU IMAGINE— I was walking and suddenly the rain started pouring????" he proceeds to blow some hot breath at her cold hands, making Shuri laugh at his outburst.
"Yeah, I can. K'uk'ulkan is here~" They looked at each other and smiled.
"You brought an umbrella tho," Shuri nods at it. "Yeah, cuz the weather report said it will rain—" he grumbled annoyingly, wiping the water droplets off her body.
"Then why didn't you use it???" Shuri rolls her eyes at him fondly. "Because I don't trust the weather report, it lies—" but he's worried that if it does, at least Shuri can have it.
"Ain't lying this time!" Shuri seeks justice for the weather. "Yeah, yeah, come on, looks like the rain isn't going to let up, let's go." Namor opens the umbrella and wraps Shuri under his arms securely as they walk home under the pouring rain, it's just a 10 minutes walk home, if they are quick they won't get entirely soaked before they reach home.
Not until a strong wind blows, Namor blocks Shuri from the water and wind, but it was coming from everywhere. And TA-DAAAAA~ they were soaking wet before they reached home.
They both flabbergasted on the spot and the next moment, Shuri burst into laughter uncontrollably, "Pfffft— HAHAHAHAHA—" Namor looked at her helplessly.
He wasn't sure whether to be happy that his wife didn't complain about him not protecting her from getting soaked in the rain, or to feel happy because even on an ordinary day like this, Shuri could still laugh so joyously. Her happiness brought him joy, and he beams.
Namor asked, "Do you have work tomorrow?"
"Tomorrow is Saturday, genius!" she teased.
"Well then," he smirks, and Namor puts away the umbrella, letting the rain shower them completely. Shuri laughed even more joyfully, she squealed and hid in his open arms, giggling like idiots together.
Hand in hand, they ran in the rain. Running towards their home together.
They got in the lift, both soaking wet and dripping waters like no end. Another couple got into the lift, and they looked at them as if they were lunatics!
Namor maintains a poker face, but Shuri couldn't hold much longer. She pursed her lips and made a great effort to suppress her laughter, trembling as she did. They got out of the lift first and as soon as it closed, they burst into uncontrollable infectious laughter.
Namor scooped Shuri up in his arms and headed towards their door, swiftly opening the locks and carrying her to the bathroom, "My bag!" He flings away her bag roughly. "My shoes are soaked!" she yelled. Without hesitation, Namor pry off her wet shoes and turned on the hot water for her, worried that she might fall ill if a single second passed by. And they had a hot shower together.
After a hot shower, Shuri sits on the countertop, sipping on Namor's special hot xocotl contentedly. She gazed at the gloomy sky, it's going to rain for long hours.
Namor vigorously ruffles the towel through his hair, he stands between her legs, then takes a big gulp of her hot xocotl drink that he made for her, stealing about half of it, Shuri slaps at his bare chest playfully. While Namor gently uses the towel to dry her hair. Shuri chuckled, the rain reminded her of their past. "Do you remember how we first met?"
"How could I forget?" A gentle snort escapes Namor's lips.
They attended the same university. It was pouring that day, just like today. Shuri was trapped at the library without an umbrella, waiting for the rain to subside before leaving. Namor happened to come out of the library too. He took out his umbrella and walked into the rain, going back to the dorm. But after a few steps, Namor turned back, quietly standing a few steps away from her. Shuri had her headphones on and didn't notice him at all. Feeling a tap on her shoulder, she looked up and found herself immersed in a sea of chocolate brown. She took off her headphones to acknowledge him—
"Are you heading to the dorm too?" "Yeah." Shuri nods.
"Do you want to—?" Namor gestures to his umbrella.
"Hmmm, if you don't mind… okay~" Shuri smiled kindly at him after thinking for a few seconds.
"Okay, come on, looks like the rain isn't going to let up, let's go." Namor opens the umbrella, letting Shuri step under it. "Erhh… if you don't mind if I…?" Namor made a gesture to wrap his arm around her shoulder, and Shuri nodded, moving closer to him so that he could shield her under the umbrella. "I'll hold your backpack," she offered. "Sure, thanks."
They walked back to the dormitory together, sharing the green umbrella. "Is your backpack filled with gold?" Shuri jokingly asked.
"Oh, it's just my art supplies for a competition today." Shuri went "Oh~~~", hugging his backpack tightly, keeping his art supplies and paints safe from getting wet.
"I'm Namor, by the way."
"I'm Shuri, nice to meet you!"
The raindrops hit on their umbrella, it was a wetty, humid, windy, yet soothing journey.
Soon, they arrived at the girl's dormitory. "I've reached, thank you so much. Let me treat you to a meal another day!" Shuri said gratefully.
"Yeah, sure. Take care and see you, bye!" Namor took his backpack and turned to leave, disappearing into the rain.
Shuri watched his fleeting figure and couldn't help but marvel at his silliness.
The guy, Namor— He had gotten completely drenched half of his torso, his wet shirt stuck to his body. Shuri had noticed he kept the umbrella to her side more than he should've, covering her entirely. While he didn't need to do it at all. She didn't mind getting wet since it was pouring. Shuri beamed in the end.
Back to the present, Shuri smirked and whispered softly, "Why are you so silly?"
"Hmm?" Namor smirked, "It's the first time in my life that I helped someone with an umbrella, ended up getting a girlfriend, then married my best friend, and my wife who is the love of my life. I think I've struck gold."
"You certainly did," Shuri, captivated by the smugness and triumphant tone in his voice. In the midst of the rain, they exchanged a sweet and warm kiss infused with the taste of chocolate.
Namor and Shuri both agreed that sometimes rainy days were quite wonderful, and magical.
