"Pulse? Steady."
"Heartrate - slow .. not good .."
"Breathing? Normal.. for now."
An ear flickered as Star watched Rocket, taking note of every movement he made- from an ear twitch to his eyes moving in his sleep. He had 48 hours at most, and the she wanted to make sure everything was normal; for his condition at least. A medical-induced coma wasn't the best option, but the only one she had. Peter occasionally checked in for updates, from which he got the following:
"Rocket will be okay, Peter. Focus on the task at hand."
"He's stable for now, please hurry."
"He isn't doing well. Hurry."
She pushed her glasses against her snout, letting out a small sigh of frustration. She was worried, who couldn't be? First, this "Warlock" dude tried to kidnap him. Then, Peter and Mantis accidentally set off his kill-switch by using a med pack on his injuries. The other Guardians had to go on a dangerous mission in order to get the codes to turn off his kill-switch, as well as her own. Surgery wasn't an option. Star was terrified, she didn't want to lose Rocket. All they had were eachother. It's why she also had to be so careful with any injuries her or Rocket obtained. Any sort of injury that required surgery could set their kill-switches off .. another reason why Star is so skilled in medicine.
Star would gently hold Rocket's hand. Watching his eyelids move- he was dreaming. She leaned down to press her forehead against his cheek. This was the first time she felt comfortable having physical contact with Rocket, usually hugs made him tense up or flinch. "You're going to be okay .. our friends will save you."
She spoke softly, closing her blue eyes for a moment.
