Trans Gwen Theory Proving
The pride flag in her room isn’t the only part of this theory. It's actually a lot, nonetheless enjoy my rambling
1) Her shoe size. In ATSV Gwen is wearing chucks / converse. These teal chucks just happen to belong to Hobart (Hobie) Brown. One of the reasons this can be seen as another reason why Gwen is trans is because Hobie is older and also larger body wise than her. Normally females feet are relatively smaller than males which would mean for her and Hobie to share a shoe size, either Gwen has large feet for a AFAB female or she was born AMAB.
2) Becoming more feminine over time. In the start of ATSV it shows a couple flashbacks with Peter and his family. In most of the scenes from there you can see Gwen looking a bit more masculine than feminine but progressively getting more and more feminine. The outfit change scene you can see Gwen was content and happy but could also see her physical appearance get more and more feminine.
3)Queer Coding. “Queer coding is the act of using subtext to code a character in media as queer. The process of queer coding entails applying characteristics associated with queerness to a character, without ever confirming it. -google” Gwen is put through a lot of the same experiences Queer kids are put through. In the first and second movie it's seen she doesn't make friends often or at all really. Her only friends being Peter, Miles, Hobie and also probably Pavitr. Most queer kids struggle to make friends or fit it just from the sheer sake alone of being queer so that's another thing for that. She's seen being an outsider and not someone who is popular at all.
4) Hair Pull scene. The infamous “Hey” done by Miles is another one of my arguments for this theory. Her reaction to her hair getting pulled off was pretty obvious to see she was frustrated. Yes a cis girl would probably also get mad if this happened but you can see from her expression in the scene it's another level of somewhat mad not full mad but the frustration . She probably felt really frustrated as in the level of “I just spent so long growing my hair to be like this.”
5) Parent issues. The way Gwen’s ‘spider woman’ identity is hidden is similar to how trans kids hide their identity. (again Queer Coding) Some parents don't take it well which can lead to kids running away, like how Gwen left because of the whole shooting incident. She didn’t return to her father for 4 months at most and was homeless for the time. Kids sometimes can stay homeless for the rest of their lives from getting disowned or running away from bad / negative reactions from their parents for just being transgender.
6) Her reaction to Jess not saying ‘Gender’ for her baby. Jessica Drew is pregnant, yes, but when Gwen asked about it she had said “We don’t know the sex yet, my husband wants it to be a surprise” and etc but Gwen’s reaction was positive and you could see her reaction being genuinely happy to hear a parent not saying “gender”.
7) Her voice when she's undercover. Most spider people would normally disguise their voice in hopes of not getting caught but something I’ve noticed is they have to train their voices to do that. The many scenes where Miles messed up his voice going too high is proof but Gwen. Gwen can do her deeper voice with no issues and also with it sounding very normal and not forced. She can instantly jump from both voices.
8) Hair Pull scene again and Peter’s death. She worries about being called Gwen in both those scenes with her even during Peter’s death she says “Gwen.. Who’s Gwen?” Many trans kids accidentally get called their chosen name before they are able to come out and the panic seemed similar to Gwen being called that by Peter.
