Chapter 1

Why did it take so long for Peter to decide to help people using his powers? Abilities? Mutations? Peter didn’t know what they were at this point. What he did know was that he was bitten by a weird spider which gave him strange senses among other spider-like abilities and now he’s in a homemade costume (that's probably worse quality than the average store-bought halloween costume), with homemade webs, swinging above New York.

He’d been Spiderman-ing for about a month and so far it’s been alright. Well, that is if you ignored the fact that he was being called a menace by the news and had an entire Youtube channel dedicated to him. He stopped a bunch of muggings, kidnappings, a few drug dealers, and even stopped a bank robbery a week back. Basically what he was expecting to do. He’s spent his spare time on patrol figuring out how to hack into police scanners and has finally figured it out. He now gets an alert on his phone when it goes off, kind of like a notification for a text message (for secrecy) and is getting better at being able to change into his costume quicker. He also assumes that the sixth sense he got from the spider-bite helps him know when danger is near, the police scanner just helps for when he isn’t on patrol.

He’s still getting used to his powers. He just decided on calling his sixth sense his danger sense because from simply listening to it and trusting his instincts, he came to the conclusion that it helps him sense when danger is near, it’s like when you get goosebumps or you shiver and your brain just automatically knows if it’s because you're cold. Speaking of his senses, he could see better and everything got louder, and brighter, and just overall more overwhelming. Walking and crawling on walls was hard too. Yes, he could stick to them okay, but science still existed and when he sood horizontally on a wall, gravity still pulled him down. He was still learning the right way to position himself so it was less stress on his muscles while wall-crawling, but he used some chemicals from school to make artificial webs (that lots of people weirdly thought came from his actual body) so he didn’t have to crawl as much.

Now he was swinging above New York, following his danger sense before he saw a masked woman with platinum blonde hair who was dressed in a black leather suit with white fur accents. She was definitely some kind of cat burglar, but due to not having enough proof just yet, Peter decided to follow her. He ended up following her to a sketchy looking building and after spying on and listening to a conversation between Black Cat and some man called Emil Greco who was behind a counter, he figured out that she was practically buying a whole arsenal. Much to the later annoyance of both Black Cat and Emil, Peter jumped down from his hiding spot at a window. “Sorry to drop in, but I’m going to have to make sure you have licences for these.” Peter said as he shot a web at Emil.

“Nice to finally meet you, Spider-boy. But as you can see, we’re kinda in the middle of something so hurry along now and maybe you’ll spare yourself from a bit of bad luck.” Black cat said, dodging a web and kicking Peter in the ribs before flipping over him to the other side of the Store. “Sorry, no can do. Also, that was just completely unnecessary!” Peter tried to shoot another web at Black Cat before realising he had no webs left, even though he thought he refilled his web shooters that morning, but instead he just jumped forward and punched Black Cat in the eye instead.

“Thanks alot Spider! That’s gonna be a black eye for a week, my face is too perfect for that!” Black Cat said before trying to get a swing at him. The two continued bickering and fighting back and forth (which wow this girl was really good and almost as flexible as Peter with his spider-powers), then Police sirens could be heard, someone must’ve heard the commotion and called the police to check it out.

“As much as I’ve loved this little cat fight of ours, Spider. I really must go. Ta-ta for now!” Black Cat blew Peter a kiss and jumped up to the window causing Peter to jump back against a wall, just for a shelf full of guns to fall down on him. “You’re a fashion emergency by the way! I suggest at least wearing body armour or something less likely to get caught on things if you’re gonna stick with this thing.” With that Black cat jumped away just in time for the police to arrive on the scene.

***

Soo.. Peter’s first interaction was… strange. She has issues, especially concerning the way she only really got upset when Peter gave her a black eye, but that was the only time she actually got upset. The rest of the time she was just joking about and acting like her interaction with Peter was just the calm before the storm. That’s the part that scared him, he didn’t know what big thing she was planning. Also, why did she give him advice before leaving? Like “oh sure I’m just gonna wait until shelves fall on you after fighting you at full force while having the obvious advantage of training prior, but this is how you don’t get hurt.” Seriously?! What is up with her? However, Peter was positive that A: she was trained in martial arts, gymnastics etc and B: she was planning something big for the next-

“Ter? Peterrrr???????”

“Sorry Ned, what’s up?”

Ned was Peter's best (and only) friend at midtown high. It was November and their first year at this school. They were currently at lunch and Peter must’ve spaced out because one moment he was in his thoughts and the next Ned was calling his name and smacking him in the head.

“I was telling you about the missing files at the police station, remember?”

“Shit sorry, who did they belong to again?”

“Well there was Emil Greco, that dude Spiderman arrested.” Peter suddenly sat up. Maybe this could give him information on Black Cats next move. “Uhh, oh! Ex-convict Bruno Grainger and Dr. Boris Korpse. Both of them kinda disappeared, probably taken or teamed with whoever stole their files and some old Cat burglar, Walter Hardy, but he’s kinda on his deathbed in prison right now.”

At least Peter now knew what Black Cats next move was, breaking her mentor out of prison.

Immediately when Peter got home, he researched everything about Walter Hardy and a bit about the other two men (But he wasn’t really worried about them at the moment). Eventually he figured out that Walter had a daughter named Felicia and he put on his costume (that now that he was thinking about it, he really should upgrade it) and went to the prison Walter was being held at.

It didn’t take long before he heard a vaguely familiar, “Fancy meeting you here, Spider.” From behind him. Peter looked up to see Black Cat Standing on top of the prison. Before Peter could even get a word out, the wall he was on exploded. The same wall that Walter Hardy was on the other side of. He got trapped under some rubble and definitely broke something for the first time in his career. Peter looked up just in time to see Walter being brought out of the Prison by the two other men who’s files went missing.

Eventually after all the commotion, Peter was able to escape the Police officers' awful attempts at making him fill out an incident report, his mind still spinning from the explosion. He then made his way to the Hardy household to see Felicia leaving the home wearing a trench coat.

“Hey Black Cat. Don’t mind me I’m just going to get your father to put him back in prison then I’ll be back for you.” He went to jump over Felicia when she grabbed his ankle, pulling him to the ground.

“I’d appreciate it if you would let my dad spend his final moments with my mother, Spider.” The last word was spoken with so much venom it made Peter shiver. She was more serious this time. Less of a pain at his side and more of a threat than before. At some point during their fight atop of buildings, Peter grabbed Felicia's coat only for her to have her Black Cat costume underneath. Her mother probably didn’t know about her being Black Cat or something. She quickly pulled on her mask and kept running across rooftops, obviously trying to lure Peter away from her house, and it was working. Eventually they got to a cliff with rocks beneath the water at the bottom. Eventually, Black Cat flipped over the edge. Peter had grabbed her hand but she slipped and fell into the water beneath.

All she wanted was for her dad to spend his final moments comfortable at home with his family and now Peter had to go and tell him that his daughter fell to her death.

By the time Peter got to the Hardy household, Walter was dead, with his daughter.

The Black Cat case was left unsolved as both Dr. Korpse and Bruno Grainger were found dead in separate alleys a few days later. Both were shot.

Peter did listen to Felicia’s advice and make a new, stronger costume (mostly because the old one got blown up). But there was still a sinking feeling in his chest everytime the Black Cat case was brought up despite how many times Peter tried to tell himself that both Felicia and Walter were together and at peace now.
