Kate has always hated having blue eyes. She grew up hearing from her mother and other strangers how bad it was. As a child, Kate didn't fully understand why people hated the color of her eyes, not least because her mother also had eyes like hers. It took her a good few years to understand why people hated blue, the day the Earth was invaded and her father died.
