Evil Twin

“You people aren’t going anywhere…” Said one of the prowlers.

They trapped them, the EMP bomb keeping them here.

And none of them understands why these two want them here, we’ll aside from them being villains probably, but it still doesn’t add up, not like they have much use to them, do they?

“Guys, Sp//der is deactivated” Penni remarked, great, they have a team member down.

“Would this be a bad time to tell you guys that I’m out of web fluid?” Whispered Miles.

Miguel wondered what he meant by web fluid, but before any of them say anything, a bunch of sphere shaped objects fell from above, and they started flashing, and it immediately settled in.

“BOMBS!” Miguel Warned before grabbing miles and Penni who happened to be beside him and jumped away from the alley, and very high and far as well, given how couldn’t web away with both hands full.

The others shot webs and managed to get out before the explosion hit.

They found themselves inside the territory of a construction work site that was just beside the house, they were rebuilding after one of the villains decided to cause destruction for fun.

“Woah, how do you even jump that high? Were you bit by a jumping spider or something?” Miles couldn’t help but wonder.

“I wasn’t bit” he replied very quickly, to which he earned a surprised look from Miles with some added confusion, well, not every Spider-Man has to be bit, but this only made him more curious about Miguel’s origin story.

“Everyone okay?” Peter asked.

He received affirmative responses from everyone, and a little laugh from Mayday, he then remembered his daughter then grabbed her and put her back in the carrier on his chest.

It wasn’t long enough before the two prowlers emerged from the smoke and charged at them.

Everyone’s spider senses alerting them of the upcoming danger, well, not everyone.

Miguel was tackled to the ground by the shorter prowler, while the taller one was surprisingly able to take on the spider people that were beating him up a few minutes ago.

“Shock’s sake, give me a break!” He exclaimed in annoyance before kicking this prowler off of him, wasting no time in leaping at him and fighting back furiously.

His clawed hand barely missed the prowler’s head and latched to the ground.

“Claws, cool” the prowler said in a deep altered voice, “I have ones of my own” he immediately slashed at Miguel who backed away just in time so the attack wouldn't mutilate his face, which gave the prowler a chance to kick him off of him.

Miles quickly interjected, shoving the shorter prowler away before he could attack again.

Now the fight was split, Miles and Miguel taking down one prowler while the others dealt with the second one, although they could’ve gotten done with him given how they outnumbered him, it was much more harder, he was way slippery than they expected, plus the fact that miles informed them that this was uncle Aaron mid fight, making it hard to fight him without hurting him.

The fight between Miles, Miguel and The shorter Prowler escalated to the center of the construction site, when they thought they had him cornered, he somehow turned on some sort of magnetic ability to his shoes and actually ran up one of the beams like some sort of Spider-Man wannabe.

Miles ran after him while Miguel webbed up, beating Miles to the enemy and swinging right at him, managing to break the magnetic connection and making them both head straight to the ground.

Miguel opened his gliders, while Miles jumped tackling the Prowler in the middle of the air, both hitting the ground with an audible ‘oof’, the air getting knocked out of the Prowler's lungs. And Miles paid there for a second as well.

With the fall, the mask that he had on broke on impact, the screen that desolated the eyes going blank and it opening.

Miguel landed, ready to web whoever this guy was to the ground, restrain him from escaping or hurting Miles who still hasn’t recovered from that fall, but right as he lifted his wrist to shoot, he froze.

Looking back at him was no ordinary Prowler.

“Miles?” He questioned upon seeing the face and eyes that looked right back at him.

Miles, his Miles, well not his Miles, his universe’s Miles probably died ages ago, but the Miles that he knows and have been helping ever since they met, lifted his head, he was a few feet away from the both of them.

This new Miles wasted no time.

Taking Miguel’s hesitation to his advantage he pushed himself from the ground, with added momentum from his shoes and shoved Miguel with such force it broke one of the beams that held a part of the construction above it, causing it to lose stability and collapse on itself.

“SHOCK” Miguel swore as he saw the metal bars and rubble coming at both him and Miles number two.

Using as much webbing he could, he recreated a trick he attempted back in nightshade, when the building exploded with him and Angela inside, he made a cocoon of webs, just in hopes that it would absorb the hit and get both of them out of there alive.

It didn’t work, he was the only one that survived while Angela…

He didn’t want the same thing to happen twice, Prowler or not, this is still Miles, this is still a fifteen year old kid that’s still got a lot ahead of him.

He took Miles under him, and lifted his hands above him, in case the webs didn’t hold up he hoped his hands would.

There it was.

He could hear Miles’s scream before it got muffled by the rubble that fell and buried them.

He can feel the weight of the cement and concrete on his arms and shoulders. His knees buckled but he kept holding this big piece of the construction, while the webs managed to shield them a little bit from any stary rocks that could lead to injury.

“Are you okay?” He groaned once everything stopped moving, deciding to check out on Prowler Miles, who was sitting on the ground right under Miguel given the very minimal space they had.

“I’m- I’m okay- yeah” Miles replied, and Miguel has never felt more relief in his life, at least this time he didn’t fail at saving someone from falling rubble.

“Good- good” he replied, “shouldn’t be long before they get us out of here- just gotta hold this thing a bit longer”.

Miles nodded from under him, although Miguel couldn’t really tell tho, he was much more focused on not getting squashed under rubble,

That would be an embarrassing way to go, Spider-Man of the year 2099, the man that terrorized Alchemax for months now, buried under rubble of a construction site, not even in his own time or universe.

Yeah, he’d hope to never go down like that.

Although it’s better than suffocating inside the stomach of an android copy of him, he wonders what happened to Flipside after he left, the crazy people must’ve used him for scraps or something.

He can hear commotion outside, muffled but it’s there, that’s good.

“Thanks for uh, helping me” Miles said, “and sorry for starting this whole thing too”.

He nodded in response, not that he didn’t want to reply verbally, it’s just that there’s much more pressing matters.

Literally.

He doesn't know how long he can hold this up.

And as if his prayer were answered, moon light finally shined through as the spiders outside finally started removing the rubble carefully.

There was finally an opening and Miles had found the opening to crawl out unharmed, that left him relieved.

Peter and noir seeing his dire situation went in with him and held up the big piece of concrete with him and managed to push it away safely, once the pressure was off his shoulders he immediately collapsed on the floor, god that’s gonna hurt tomorrow.

The Miles from this earth ran straight to his uncle Aaron who checked up on him and made sure that he was okay, it appears that both sides immediately stopped fighting when the still in work building collapsed.

He feels bad for the construction worker that will have to go through building all of that from scratch again.

Miles, his Miles, popped out of nowhere from beside him, worry visible whine a nervous smile.

“Need a hand?” He asked.

“Yeah…”

Miles extended his arm to which Miguel used to lift himself up to his feet again, when he faced forward he found Aaron standing in front of him and extending a hand to him.

Miguel was confused for a second, before getting the memo and taking Aaron’s hand into a handshake.

“Thank you for protecting my boy,” Aaron said, grateful with a smile on his face.

“It’s no big deal, kind of the whole thing of being Spider-Man and all” he replied awkwardly, he doesn’t take thank you’s very well sometimes given how he doesn’t get thanked a lot, and most often when he does, it’s by those creepy worshipers of his.

“We’re sorry for causing you trouble” Miles 42 spoke from beside uncle Aaron, “we thought you guys weren’t good news you know?”

“Yeah I get it” Miles said, “given the state of your universe, I’d be wary as well”.

“So you guys really are from another universe?” Miles 42 asked.

“Oh yeah absolutely, I’m you from another earth!”

“Woah so quantum theory does exist”.

“Crazy I know, this isn’t my first time dealing with multiverse hopping though”.

Noir cleared his throat and the small conversation they had going got cut off.

“Not to break any bonding time or anything, but can you turn off whatever is disturbing our watches? We’re kind of in a pickle right now”.

“Oh right, the EMP bomb” Aaron said, “its effects are temporary, it should wear off in a few”.

“Great, what do we do now?” Spider-Ham said.

Everyone instinctively turned their heads towards Miguel, except for Miles, Aaron and earth 42 Miles, who just looked confused.

Miguel shifted under their gazes.

“Why are you guys looking at me?” He asked.

“Normally you’re the guy with the plan” Gwen said, “your counterpart at least, he’s the guy that takes charge of stuff, we kind of assumed…” she trailed off.

Miguel blinked at her for a second.

“Oh no no no, I’m not like whoever this Miguel is, I don’t take charge of things” he said, “I mean… Why are you asking me when the heroic age Spider-Man is right there?” He asked, pointing at Peter B Parker, who fixed him with a confused expression.

“Heroic age- what now?” He asked.

“You know, the- uh… well, for us in the future we don’t really have superheroes, they kind of died with the heroic age back in the twencen era, you’re one of those heroes! Like, the original Spider-Man, I’m just a guy that put on a Dias De Los Muertos suit and picked up the name decades after you died” he explained.

“Oh, I didn’t know that about Miguel, that’s interesting”.

“Who’s Spider-Man?” Miles 42 finally let his confusion be known.

“Oh right, your universe didn’t… hmm…” Peter trailed off, “basically, we all got bit by a radioactive spider-“

“I didn't,” Miguel interrupted.

“Except for him, but that doesn’t matter, we all got bit, and that spider’s DNA transferred to us and we gained spider powers because of that” he explained, “there was a spider that was meant to bite a person here but…”

“It bit me instead…” Miles said, “a- uh, a collider brought your spider to my dimension and it bit me, and that’s why there’s no Spider-Man to protect your universe, I’m sorry…”.

Miles 42 was quiet, absorbing the information.

Then he spoke.

“What about you?” He pointed a finger at Miguel.

“What about me?” Miguel repeated the question.

“You said that you weren’t bit”.

“Oh… oh, well, my DNA got spliced with a spider’s DNA, you could say I’m fifty percent Spider”.

“Wait, are you serious?” Gwen wondered.

“Yeah, it was a freak accident, well… not an accident actually, it was more like attempted murder gone wrong”.

Everyone’s eyes went wide.

“Don’t try to ask about it, he won’t share, I tried” Miles said amidst the silence.

“Wait so how is Miguel gonna lecture us about canon events when he himself wasn’t a subject to the most important one?” Hobie finally spoke up.

“Hobie, not all spider people are a result of a radioactive spider” Gwen replied.

“Exactly! Canon events depend on each universe, they’re flexible, not everything is set in stone just because it’s a pattern” he explained.

“Wait you guys lost me, what’s a canon event?” Miguel suddenly asked.

“Wait, you haven’t told him?” Gwen asked Miles and Miles smiled sheepishly.

“Told me what?” He asked again.

“Well… remember the ‘fate’ that I spoke to you about?”

—-

Margo was still keeping watchout, scanning the area for any newcomers from different universes.

That’s when she got alerted.

A new portal energy has been spotted through her scanners, she swung to the spot only to find none other than Miguel O’hara himself, panic settled in and she immediately attempted to contact the others via the watch but no one picked up and no message was answered.

When all her attempts failed, she decided to tell them personally, at least she’ll manage to get to them before Miguel himself does.

—-

“Wait hold on, so this whole canon events thing is like, an event that must happen or the whole world will evaporate, is that what you’re saying?” Miguel asked and Miles nodded.

They moved their spot, now sitting on a rooftop while this whole thing was explained to Miguel.

“And it’s all just a theory?” he said.

“Well, Miguel claims that it happened to him once,” Gwen answered.

“Once?”

“Once”

“And because you didn’t want to abide by the rules he chased you around nueva York, beat you up, and called you a mistake?” He asked again.

“Yup.”

He went quiet for a while, too long for comfort.

But that silence was cut off by a hologram of a girl showing up out of nowhere.

“Guys, bad news, Miguel is here” she said.

“Oh don’t worry about him, this is not the Miguel you think he is” Peter said pointing at Miguel who just waved.

Margo stood there for a second, “what- who- no, wait, I’m not talking about him!” She said, and everyone tensed.

“Wait, you mean, Miguel, leader of spider society?” Pav questioned.

“Yeah! He’s here!”

“Shit!” Peter B cursed under his breath, immediately bringing his watch to his face and praying that it would turn on.

And it seemed that the universe had decided to be merciful on their souls as the watch actually turned on.

“Oh thank god the EMP is gone”, he said before opening a portal, “come one we gotta go now!”

“I’m staying,” Miguel said.

“Wait what?” Miles exclaimed in confusion.

“I’ll hold him off, if we all go in he’ll just follow us and make it harder, I’ll keep him here and you guys go save Miles’s dad, you guys can come back for me later”

“Are you sure?” Miles asked.

“Yeah, plus I have always looked for a reason to beat up myself”.

“That sounds depressing dude”.

“Just go!”.

Miles looked back at him for a second before jumping into the portal, everyone following behind before it closed, and he was left on the roof with Miles 42 and his uncle.

He turned to the both of them.

“You still have some EMP bombs?”
