Tell Me Why This Has To End
Tuesdays classes flew by pretty quickly, in Chuuya’s opinion. He had a test in ancient history, but that was about it. Now, instead of doing his homework, he was sitting in the shared common area trying to hook Yosano’s switch to the tv.
“Hurry up. I can’t wait another second to start this tournament.” Yosano whined as she watched Chuuya struggle.
Said man rolled his eyes and turned his head towards the female beside him. “You try doing this then.”
She stuck her tongue out and grabbed the switch , shoving Chuuya out of the way. “Challenge accepted. I’ll get this done faster than you ever could.”
“Ha?!”
“Guys, stop fighting. Let’s just get this hooked up so we can start. I’m getting impatient.” Ranpo huffed as he took chips from a bowl that sat in his lap.
Yosano rolled her eyes as she got to work. Soon enough, it was hooked up. It took a little because she couldn’t see, or so she claimed. Chuuya just thinks it’s because she was in fact, slow. Soon enough though, they started their bi-weekly mario kart tournament. As usual, Chuuya picked Yoshi.
The tournaments usually lasted between half an hour to two hours, depending. It often included Chuuya cursing at Dazai to stop fucking him up, Dazai bumping into Chuuya in the game and in person, Yosano raging, Ranpo winning, Akutagawa coming in dead last, and Atsushi failing to get every power cube.
However, today they lacked a certain brunette. He sent a text to the groupchat claiming he was visiting his “brother” Oda Sakunosuke. They aren’t actual brothers, since Sakunosuke-sensei isn’t adopted by Mori-sensei, but Dazai has viewed him as an older brother. Oda had orphans, and brought them to Mori’s for checkups and such, and he grew found of the small teen that was always there with Mori. That’s how their relationship started, according to Dazai.
Ranpo huffed as he not so carefully, put the remote on the table. “You all suck. Especially you, Ryunosuke. No offence, but we’ve been playing this so often lately and you still drive backwards!”
Akutagawa turned red as he looked at the floor, before muttering to himself. “Dazai-san told me it was more fun that way.”
“More fun? You come in dead last, even when you pass the finish line it doesn’t even register!” Ranpo argued back, already knowing that Dazai told him that just to fuck with him.
“Ryuu, he was fucking with you. Trust me.” Chuuya said as he stood up, tossing his remote onto the couch. “Now if you can excuse me, I have some homework I have to do.” He excused himself as he headed towards his dorm. He did in fact have some homework due the next day, but he didn’t want to do it. But he could not stand listening to Ranpo arguing with Akutagawa about how badly he sucked at the game, it was annoying.
He also had to plan an outfit for the next night, when he had a family dinner. His mom and dad are out of the picture, so it’s just him and his aunt and younger cousin. Kouyou, who is older, and Aya who is younger. They tried to get together once a month for a dinner. Which sure, doesn’t seem like something someone should plan an outfit for, because it’s not like they went out for dinner. However, this is Chuuya we’re talking about. He has to be best dressed at every event.
His mom and dad were sort of emotionally abusive, and his older brother, Verlaine, left as soon as he could with his now husband, Rimbaud, to Europe. Soon, Chuuya was given to his older cousin Kouyou once she turned of age. Kouyou and Aya only had their dad. He was verbally abusive towards them once their mother passed, taking his anger out on them. Although, he never once hit them. Once Kouyou had gained custody of Chuuya, she moved out of her house snd brought Aya with her.
Sure, at Kouyou’s there wasn’t a lot of money exactly, but it was enough to get by and keep them well fed. Kouyou works as a secretary for some clothing brand, which happens to be one of the biggest clothing brands in Japan. So, clothing discounts were always there, thankfully. Aya is in middle school, so she doesn’t have to worry about helping out, since she’s too young to get a job. When Chuuya had a part time job, he gave half of his earnings to Kouyou. He quit once he got accepted into university, having enough money saved for basic needs. Kouyou’s job helped pay for his tuition, thankfully.
A buzz from his phone drew him out of his thoughts.
Mackerel: Chuuya? (21:09)
He huffed as he grabbed his phone to respond.
Slug<3: Hm? (21:09)
Mackerel: Nevermind. Goodnight (21:13)
Slug<3: Huh? You okay Dazai? (21:13)
“Ugh. That fucker.” Chuuya muttered annoyingly as he put his phone on his desk. Thats another thing about Dazai, he never lets people know what’s going on with him. He could be in a bad depressive episode and nobody would even know. Aside from those who have learned to spot those slight differences in his behaviour, like Chuuya.
He moved to his bed, and quickly undressed and put on his “pyjamas”. It’s a pair of dark grey sweatpants, and a white band t-shirt. He flopped onto his bed and threw the blankets over top of him. Reaching over he clicked the lamp off, which was sitting on his bedside table.

“What the fuck.” Chuuya stared at the monstrosity that Dazai brought to lunch. It didn’t even look slightly edible in the slightest.
Dazai looked up at him, muddy eyes meeting ocean blue. “What? Odasaku said I could make myself whatever I please.”
Yeah, okay. This is why Dazai is banned from cooking. Whatever the fuck he made looked…like toxic chemicals. Which wouldn’t be surprising if it actually was. “What the fuck is that?”
“It’s my homemade curry!” Dazai exclaimed happily as he took a spoonful and shoved it into his mouth.
Kunikida stared at the bowl sitting in front of Dazai. “That does NOT look like curry.”
“Well, it is Kunikida! Put more faith into me!”
“You made tofu that was so hard it broke Ryunosuke’s pinky.” Gin deadpanned.
Dazai gasped dramatically, placing a hand over his heart. “I’ll have you know, that tasted amazing!”
“Broke his finger?!” Yosano was taken aback. Tofu should not be that hard. Ever. “How did you eat that?!”
“I’m special.” Dazai shrugged as he took another bite from his “curry”.
“We can tell.” Chuuya instantly shot back, receiving a glare from Dazai.

“Chuuya, Chuuya! Guess what!” Aya practically screamed into his face the second he entered the house. Aya was 10, and had red hair that was put up with bobby pins.
“Hm..you got an A on your art assignment?”
Aya pursed her lips and scoffed. “I wish, but Imm in our schools play! I’m one of the main characters! Akari! She’s one of the broadcasters!”
Broadcasters? “What’s the play about?”
“Wait and see! It’s gonna be a surprise!”
Kouyou chuckled as she entered the room. She has light scarlet hair that is always pulled into a traditional bun. “I see that Aya’s told you her big news, what an Aya welcoming.”
Aya snapped her head to stare at her sister. “Hey! Don’t be mean to me. I’m the baby of the family.”
Chuuya raised an eyebrow at her, “Doesn’t that mean that we get to make fun of you, since we’re the older ones?”
The girl was at a loss of words before she hmphed and crossed her arms over her chest. “Meanies.”
Kouyou shook her head slightly before motioning for Chuuya to come in. “Come in, lad. Dinners almost ready, get settled in.” Chuuya nodded as he took off his shoes and headed towards the dining room.
Their small house was not traditional Japanese, although Chuuya wouldn’t mind if it was. He liked the style, especially since it was his culture too. However, he doesn’t mind the more modern look to the house. Of course they had traditional assets to it, but it was more of what Kouyou would call “Americanized”.
“What even is for dinner?” he asked as he sat down at his spot at the table.
Kouyou hummed as she made her way to the kitchen, which was just off to the left if the dinning room, connected with a doorway. “Onigiri, nikujaga, and a bowl of curry.”
At the mention of curry, Chuuya made a disgusted face. “I don’t think I can eat curry after todays lunch.”
Aya rolled her eyes and stuck her tongue out at Chuuya. “More for me, I guess. Because someone is being picky~!”
“Am not!”
“Are too!”
“Guys, shush. No fighting. Anyway, what happened at lunch?” Kouyou pipped in from the kitchen, sounding somewhat invested on what made Chuuya not want curry.
Chuuya let out a sigh and placed his one hand on his cheek. “Dazai went over to Sakunosuke-sensei’s last night, and he made himself curry. Let’s just say, whatever the fuck he was-“
“Language.”
“Sorry, whatever he was eating, it was not curry. Nor did it smell like any form of curry. Wouldn’t be surprised if it was actual chemicals.” he finished as he leaned back in the chair, Aya was giggling. “What’s so funny?”
She covered her mouth as she continued laughing. “Dazai-chan! That’s why!” Of course. Typical Aya, laughing at the most stupidest things.
“Why would Sakunosuke-san allow that walking train wreck into his kitchen? Oh god, I hope he didn’t try giving it to the kids.” Kouyou muttered to herself, very loudly, as Chuuya could hear it clear as day.
Chuuya shrugged, not like Kouyou could see him, “They have a close relationship, or so I’ve heard. Pretty sure Sakunosuke-senpai lets Dazai get away with a lot of stuff.”
Kouyou hummed before she started getting the plates ready, since the food was now done. At the sound of the plates, Aya sat straighter in her seat, a smile on her face. “Yay! It’s almost dinner! I swear, she puts her heart and soul into dinner whenever you come. It always tastes better.”
“Are you saying that my cooking sucks?”
“No! I’m saying that it’s always better with Chuuya. Duh.”
“Hey, drop the sass, lad.”
<~>
Needless to say, dinner was amazing. Kouyou was definitely a good cook, no doubt about it. Even the dessert she made was amazing, but all desserts are amazing. “God, thanks Kouyou. That dinner was amazing.”
She smiled at him, a sweet one. Not her usual colder one or forced one. “You’re welcome, Chuuya. I’m glad you liked it.” She started grabbing the plates and utensils, so she could wash them.
“I’ll help with dishes, Aya go play or something.” Chuuya sat up and made his way to the kitchen, following Kouyou. The second he grabbed a towel to start drying the dishes, his phone dinged. He quickly pulled it out to see what it was.
Alcohol: Have you seen the news?? I’m going to cry oh my god (17:34)
“I’ll dry these in a sec.” Chuuya muttered to Kouyou before googling the news. Only to find that five kids were killed in an accident, one adult with non life threatening injuries.
Tigerboy: ARE THEY ALL OKAY? (17:35)
Self taught barber: Atsushi. It said five dead, you idiot. Obviously not. (17:35)

Chuuya put his phone on the counter and looked at Kouyou, “I-I’m so sorry, I have to get going. Something happened I think.”
The girl beside him gave him a worried glance, but nodded in understanding. “That’s fine, keep me updated so I know you didn’t bail on dishes.” There was a slight joking tone in her voice, to hide her concern. She wasn’t very open about her feelings.
Chuuya nodded before dashing out, giving Aya a quick hug and muttering a small “See you,” before leaving the house. As he made his way to the sidewalk to begin his walk to school, he got the message.
American: They released the names, all children ended in Sakunosuke. Oda Sakunosuke was the adult in the car when it got rear ended by a transport truck. Drivers at fault, not Sakunosuke-sensei. Two children at back were dead on scene, other three died on the way to hospital, Sakunosuke-sensei has a few bruises and a concussion. (17:56)
“Shit.”
