I See The Danger (It's Written There In Your Eyes)

"Oi, you got 'em yet?"

“In the middle of that!” Pavitr responds to Hobie, as he twists around in the air. He swings a bracelet at the anomaly, knocking them towards Miles.

“Sunflower, give ‘em the death blow!” Hobie calls out, chuckling slightly.

Miles groans, prepping his venom strike. “I don’t kill, you know that.”

Pav lands on the anomaly’s back, trying to tie them down. “He was joking! Just like how I hope you were joking about chaitea!”

“I thought we were over that, it was an honest mistake!”

“Tell that to my entire culture!”

Miles facepalms. “Okay, look- I’m sorry. But we gotta focus on this mission.”

“Fine! Do your magic move-” Pav yells, before being thrown off the anomaly’s back.

The anomaly was this big humanoid-cockroach. They had hammerspace or something, since they pulled weapons out of literally nowhere. And conveniently, they pulled out a cattle prod.

Miles laughs. “Awh man, this is gonna be easy.”

Cattle prods use electric shocks, and lucky for Miles, he can absorb electricity. He holds his palms out, ready to take and shoot back the shock-

Stop.

He pauses. His mind roommate has been quiet all day, so this has to be important…

BZZZT!

Miles falls to the ground, electricity burning through his veins.

Ow…guessing my roomie wants me dead, huh?

We do not wish death upon you. That would not be good for either of us.

Okay, that’s reassuring. I think.

Don’t question. Just relax, let us take care of this.

Miles!” Pavitr lands down in front of his friend, while Hobie contains the anomaly. Miles had froze in the spot, letting the opponent shock him. Now he was unconscious, spasming slightly as visible electricity surged across him.

Pav hesitates. He wants to make sure his fellow Spider-Man is okay, but that would most likely involve touching him. And why should he risk electrocution and force Hobie to take care of two injured friends?

He sighs, and shoots a web at Miles, being as gentle as possible. Luckily the web is shock absorbent, thanks to the nature of how he got his powers.

“Miles?...” Pav whispers, reaching out to take off the younger teen’s mask. He sucks in his breath, touching the fabric. He feels his fingers get slightly pricked, but that’s fortunately it.

Miles’ cheeks are hollow, his eyes are clouded over, and his eye bags make him resemble a panda.

Has he been eating and sleeping? I doubt it, since his appearance is so…malnourished and sleep deprived.

Pav chuckles softly. He always makes sure to stay well rested, so he can have the energy to be Spider-Man. It’s also good for his skin. Sure, he doesn’t do much with his hair except for using coconut oil, but his skincare is another story.

Miles would definitely benefit from a little skincare treatment from the amazing Pavitr Prabhakar, since his friend’s skin was crusty as fuck.

Hobie kneels down next to Pav, placing a hand on his shoulder. “Got the roach in containment, jus’ like you asked.”

He takes off his mask, raising an eyebrow at Miles. “Huh. Thought he’d be less dead lookin’. Guess not.”

Pav also takes off his mask, breathing in the fresh air. “How long has he been like this?”

“Dunno. ‘Bout a week. He gotta pretty bad fever a few days ago.” Hobie answers, shrugging to prove his point.

Pavitr sighs, though he catches some movement in the corner of his eye.

“...Miles? Are you in there?” He asks, noticing how Miles just blinks at him in the most un-Miles like way.

“Yes. I’m here.” Miles replies in a flat voice.

No “yeah, don’t worry about me!” or “of course I’m good! Don’t sweat it!”

Just…a monotone yes.

“Okaaaay.” Pav bites his lip. His ADHD brain was hyper-focusing on every little thing about Miles, searching for something wrong.

He glances over at Hobie, and the two share a ‘Yeah, He’s Definitely NOT Okay’ look.

Hobie puts his hands under Miles’ arms, picking up the shorter teen. “Aight, you gonna walk? Or do you need help from me?” He smirks.

Miles stares at him, clearly unimpressed. “I’m fine, Hobart.”

Pav snorts at that. “Oh, he’s mad at you Hobie! What did you even do to get Miles to call you Hobart?”

“I don’t recall doin’ anything like that…” Hobie mutters, his voice sounding genuinely serious for one.

Pav knows that Hobie and Miles have gotten really close in the month they’ve known each other. Even though he’s a hardcore Ghostflower shipper, which is the ship name he’s given to Miles and Gwen, he smiles at the thought of Punkflower.

Romantic tension is so palpable, I swear.

Miles quickly shakes his head, his dark eyes regaining their sparkle. “Um, guys?”

Pavitr tilts his head to the side at the sudden emotion displayed in his friend’s voice. “Yeah, what is it?”

“What happened?” Miles bites his lip, obviously confused.

Hobie chuckles softly. “C’mon, you can't just ‘bout callin’ me Hobart, ain't that right?”

Miles narrows his eyes. “I- wait, your full name’s Hobart? I…I didn't know that.” He looks between Pav and Hobie. “Are you guys pranking me into thinking I lost some of my memory? ‘Cus I know it’s been fuzzy lately, but-”

“Wait.” Pav holds up his hands, stopping Miles. “You…you’re not joking? You genuinely don't remember the last couple minutes?”

Miles nods, grinning nervously. “And you’re serious about this being, well- serious? Because you know I have issues reading people, and you definitely don’t seem like the type to take advantage of that.”

Hobie sighs, facepalming. “Mate, sunflower…lemme guess? You didn't go to the medbay after you got that fever, huh?”

“How did you guess?” Miles’ tone is joking, like he’s trying to brush off the concern of his friends.

Pav sighs, grabbing Miles’ wrist. “We are bringing you to the medbay, no complaints.”

Miles opens his mouth to protest, but quickly clamps it shut. “Miguel brought me in last week. They said I’m fine, just a bit malnourished.”

“I said no complaints.” Pav hisses through clenched teeth, dragging Miles towards a portal that Hobie just opened up, tossing the anomaly through it.

He just hopes that his friend will actually be alright.
