29 Water - Steve x Bucky (Marvel)
Steve Rogers shivered as he thought of the water. As a boy the water only ever harmed him. His first memory of the icy depths appears when he was only a young child of four maybe five. The water was actually fun in his memory, but the fun burned away with the memory of the blazing fever and unbearable cough that soon followed. As his mother prayed for his health at his bedside until he inevitably was pulled away back into an uneasy sleep.
The memories only worsened with the years. The cold shivers he felt as the snow began to melt on his uniform, chilling him down to the bones. But the cold he felt could never compare to the chill that went through his entire being as Bucky fell from that train that fateful day. Felling the cold wind grasp his hand instead of Bucky’s alive and warm one. The memories did not stop there. The memory of awakening next to the icy ocean shivering as he racked his memory for the ghost of Bucky he swore was real but nobody listens to a shivering and sobbing old man, Captain America or otherwise.
But all those fears of the deep dark blue evaporated with one look into James Barnes eyes. The bright icy eyes held so much complexity he could stare into them for lifetimes. The way they narrow when he is analyzing someone. Or the way they widened when Steve surprised his husband with a kiss to the cheek, they truly were hypnotizing. He hated water with a passion and the fear it struck into his very core…
But he’d swim through rivers, oceans and trenches if it meant he could gaze just a second longer into his husband’s eyes.
