1 Midnight - Hank and Connor (Detroit Become Human)
Hank groaned shoving his face away from the slobbery wet thing assaulting his cheek. He only received a BOOF for his futile efforts. He squinted at the blaring blue letters from his alarm clock, he was old school like that, only to see it was exactly midnight. With a sleep drunk groan he hoisted himself into a sitting position, making sure to pat his four legged friend on the head who leaned into the touch before trotting out the bedroom door.
“This better be worth it Sumo…” Hank mumbled, affection bellying his deep voice as he walked to follow the sound of nails hitting floor tiles. Within seconds he saw his so- Connor’s silhouette. “Da fuck are you doin up Connor?” Hank grumbled lacking his usual bite as his gaze fixated on the far-away look in the androids eyes. Connor seemingly shook himself back into awareness “I’m sorry if I disturbed your sleep lieutenant… I was certain my silencer protocols were activated.” Connor said mundanely either ignorant or ignoring the glowing lemon yellow emitting from his LED. “Don’t worry bout it. What are you doing awake though. Some weird chain message or some shit?” Hank questioned, taking silent pride in the smirk he raised out of his new housemate. “I found myself unable to enter Stasis for some reason.” He paused before his LED flashed red briefly and he once again began to speak now with haste “Not that anything is wrong with my program. I think? My diagnostic sens-“. Hank raised a hand to silence his increasingly anxious rambling as he let out a breathless sigh.
“I guess Kamski really did underestimate your humanity…” Hank mused as he lowered himself into the couch with Sumo to follow, punching on his owner’s lap blissfully ignorant of Connor’s full body flinch. Hank however was not so ignorant noting the androids response. “The whole Kamski incident eating at ya?” He asked knowingly as Connor’s gaze once again returned to the moonlight bathing the window; “I hesitated. I spared her, but what if I didn’t?” Connor said not remembering leaving his post at the window to sit beside the detective. Connor suddenly looked up as he felt the warmth of hank’s hand in his as he moved both their hand’s to rest on Sumo’s fur. “I know a thing or two about what if’s kid. Hell I wonder every night if those “what ifs” would have saved Cole…” At this Hank squeezed Connor hand a bit harder. Connor suddenly realized perhaps the detectives affectionate action was to comfort himself as well as him. “Hank. What happened to your son was as a result of multiple uncontrollable or unpredictable factors.” Connor spoke factually only pausing as Hank let out a almost sarcastic snort at the comment. “I guess Kamski forcing you to deviate and take an innocent life was totally predictable and in your control then.” Hank replied smirking as Connor opened his mouth to process before watching him realize he got caught in his own words. “I see your point lieutenant.” Connor settled with.
Hank’s parental instincts flared as he looked at Connor, poor kid looked like he was caught with his hand in the cookie jar. “Well that’s enough deep conversation for one midnight. Wanna watch some trash TV it’s what us humans do to unwind.” He didn’t wait for Connor’s approval before switching on the TV
“Wouldn’t the term “Trash TV” imply that it is an undesirable activity?” Connor questioned
“Ya take EVERYTHING literally kid, you’ll understand when I show you Love Island.”
