Note

Day One

Jiro shot up from her sleep to a loud noise coming from her living room. She quickly realized it was just her parents and laid back down. Great, first day of summer break and she was awoken by her parents when she just wanted some sleep. She laid there taking in the moment of silence before rolling to her side and checking her phone.

Momo

11:23

Hey, Jiro, would you like to hang out later?

1:43

I know you're probably still asleep since you haven't answered, but I wanted to specify that this is more of a one on one thing. I haven't invited anyone else.

Jiro

2:12

Hey, sorry you were right I was asleep. I would love to.

Momo

2:13

Oh, great. Can I pick you up around 3:30?

Jiro

2:15

Yeah that's good see you around 3:30

Jiro set her phone down, butterflies in her stomach, and slowly dragged herself out of bed and to the bathroom to get ready. As she brushed her teeth, she realized she had no idea what Momo had planned. This made her feel incredibly anxious. She tried to push through her fears and hop into the cold shower to calm down. After she spent almost 20 minutes trying to pick out an outfit. Which she would never admit too. She wanted to look good with Momo. After finally settling on black ripped jeans and a black T-shirt with a purple electric guitar on it, she started putting on some simple smudged eyeliner. When she finally stepped out of her room at 3:18 she greeted her parents with a small smile before moving to the kitchen. She quickly grabbed an energy drink and a small snack before heading back to her room, that was until her parents stopped her.

“Hey, kid, you good?” Her father gave her a questioning look and glanced at the energy drink. Jiro just gave a small nod before entering her room. She picked up her phone again and scrolled through her notifications. The Bakusquad chat was blowing up, pun intended. She wasn't an official member, but Kaminari had invited her, and Bakugo hadn't fought it.

Jiro set her phone down, already exhausted by their bickering. She downed her energy drink and exited her room darting for the trash can to dispose of her drink. Suddenly there was a knock at the door. Jiro tried to get it before her dad could but failed miserably when she almost fell flat on her face. Her dad pulled open the door with a smile. “Hello! Are you one of Kyoka’s friends?”

“Ah, yes, I'm here to pick her up!”

Jiro’s father looks a little surprised since he was unaware of her plans, but he just stepped out of the way and waved as the two left.

Jiro sits in awkward silence with Momo during the car ride; thinking about Momo calling her a friend when she wants to be more. She was too scared to make a move though, maybe she could today. Jiro realizes she still doesn’t know where they’re heading. “Um, Momo, uh, where are we going?” She said, twirling her ear jacks around her fingers, an obvious sign of her anxiety. “Oh my, I can't believe I forgot to tell you where we’re going. Depending on how long you decided to put up with human interaction I at least planned to go to the mall. If you’re still okay after that I thought, we could go to the park and maybe see a movie.” Momo smiled and laughed at herself for forgetting such an important step. “I think I'm up for that,” Jiro tried to give a comforting smile as she made eye contact. They talked about random stuff, mostly school, for the rest of the car ride.

Once the car came to a stop Jiro quickly hopped out and opened the door for Momo; she did the same with the door to the mall. Momo just gave her a smile as a thank you when she did. The first thing Momo wanted was bubble tea, so they wandered around until they found some. Momo swiped her card, paying for both of their drinks, moving way too fast for Jiro to keep up; she could barely process what just happened. Momo didn't even mention it, she just lightly grabbed Jiro’s hand and walked away. This was typical behavior for Momo but that didn’t stop her from being stunted by it.

“So, where should we go next?” Momo asked while looking around at the stores.

Jiro was still kind of shocked but managed a small shrug letting Momo choose.

Momo acknowledged it and started walking towards a store displaying summer dresses. Jiro couldn’t help but think Mina would probably have loved this, so why was she not here? Why did Momo invite her? She didn’t express much interest in shopping.

Once she snapped back to reality, she realized Momo was picking out stuff to try on. She also realized she had somehow agreed to carry the stuff. What really threw her through a loop was when Momo picked out a couple things in Jiro’s size. She should have known this would happen, but she allowed it. When it came to trying the stuff on, she had to admit she was actually having fun. Momo didn’t pick out things Jiro would absolutely hate so she wasn’t even a little upset about having to try some stuff on. Momo decided on a cute yellow summer dress with daisies on it. It was a little longer than mid-thigh length. She paired it with a big white sun hat and a pair of dramatic sunglasses. Jiro agreed to a short dress with a purple and blue swirl pattern. Momo again gently pushed her away and paid before offering a smile; it was becoming painfully obvious she was going to do this all day.

The next store was full of shoes, and people. Momo almost dropped what she was holding when she saw it. Jiro doesn’t run after her; she takes her time; preparing herself for the amount of people. Once together again she sees Momo staring at some platforms, obviously intrigued. Jiro takes it upon herself to grab a pair in Momo’s size. Momo and Jiro exchange an understanding look; no words needed to express their emotions.

At the park they walked around laughing about the dumbest things they had seen Kaminari do lately. “I can’t believe he thought he could withstand lightning!!” Jiro was having trouble breathing through her laughter. It was nice how they could act like teens again. They were kind of worried that after the war nothing would ever get better, but it did. People went back to living their lives. They didn’t like thinking about the recent events.

“Ice cream!!!” Momo squealed, sprinting towards the ice cream shop next to the exit of the park. Jiro laughed and sped up to sprint with her. This was her chance; Jiro knew she wouldn’t get another like this. “Wanna get a banana split to share and the giant milkshake?” Momo immediately started blushing but nodded quickly. Giving Jiro an opening to pay this time she quickly took it. Momo was still a blushing mess when they got situated at a table. Jiro took this chance to try to feed her. She could’ve sworn she just heard Momo squeak. Slowly Momo accepted it. Jiro felt cocky enough to give a small smirk. Momo eased up and rolled her eyes at the shorter girl. Jiro’s smirk turned into a loving smile. This was perfect. She felt happy. That was something to fight for; something to cling to; something that had helped keep her sane during the war.

Momo spoke, breaking the long silence of them just staring at each other, “So, does this mean you like me or am I reading this wrong?”

“No, you’re right, I like you!!!” Jiro blurted out, almost knocking over their milkshake.

Momo let out a light laugh. “Good, cause I like you too, Kyoka,” she said before kissing her.

Jiro melted into the kiss, unable to resist. She had dreamed of this moment.
