You are on a stroll through the market, taking in the mountain views in the distance as you wander. The fresh smell of cool air as the scorching heat of the recent Wakandan summer starts to wear off. As you approach a clothes stall you begin to feel the softness of the beautiful African fabrics that you have always admired. A walk around the markets has always calmed you down when you’re worried about something.
Being the daughter of one of Wakanda’s highest ranking noblemen, you are one of Shuri’s Lady in waiting, you have been since both of your early teens. Your main job on paper is to help dress her, bathe her and tuck her in but in reality you were just nearby whenever she needed company. Lately since the death of queen Ramonda, this has been quite often.
You had heard rumours that the council has felt that Shuri has not taken on her role as queen as much as she should, therefore they are requesting she be wed before the end of the year.
Knowing Shuri as well as you did, you knew she had never really considered romance, but you weren’t sure if this news would stress her out or comfort her. If she is married then he would become king and she could carry on her role as black panther without having to worry about her country being run at the same time.
It did seem like the perfect solution, but deep down you’ve always had a bit of a crush on the princess, now queen. So this idea of a new King kind of made your stomach drop. You didn’t know Wakanda’s rules on a queen marrying a lady, never mind a lady in waiting so your hopes would never get that high. However, the thought of Shuri being married to a strange new man was definitely unsettling.
Anyway, Okoye will be on her way soon to deliver the news to the queen so you wanted to make sure you were close by in case your komoyo beads go off in request for your council. You put down the pot you were admiring in the market just outside the castle and made your way to the lady’s chambers just down the hall from Shuri’s room.
Anxiously waiting in the corridor as two Dora Milaje soldiers followed Okoye into Shuri’s bedroom. You heard fainted bickering a few minutes later and the soldiers leave the room quickly, Shuri was not far behind them chasing them down the corridor when she came to a hault just in front of you.
“can you believe this?!” Shuri questioned towards you.
“i’m sorry, my queen.” you answered, shaking your head.
Shuri huffed at your careless reply and stormed back into her bedroom. You waited about 30 seconds before hesitantly knocking on her door, you knew she wasn’t mad at you, more at the council.
“Shuri? please let me in, i’m here to help” you softly projected your voice through her heavy door.
Before you heard a reply you felt the door you were leaning on slowly open. Shuri’s face was unreadable, which was rare for you.
“i don’t know what to do..” she sounded defeated.
“we’ll figure it out, together” you half-heartedly smiled up at her.
