Wednesday sat on the end of the couch in Yoko and Divina’s apartment. As she looked around the room, seeing all the Nightshades, except Xavier, she thought if someone had told her when she started Nevermore that she would still be friends with people she met there four years after graduation, she would have pushed them off a very high building. Wednesday sighed, but here she was friends with them. Sharing important and not so important events. Birthdays, holidays, acceptances into colleges, new loves, loves lost. Tonight, they were celebrating. Yoko and Divina had finally gotten engaged.
They had a big party planned for next weekend but wanted to just have a small celebration with the people who knew them best. In that vein, none of the others had their current love interests with them. Yoko, Ajax, Enid, Eugene, and Kent were dancing around to some popular song. Enid and Wednesday had talked about everything that happened their junior year. They had spent many nights crying and working to understand each other so that they now considered each other good friends again.
While both of them had dated different people over the years, neither brought anyone they were dating to gatherings they knew the other one was attending. It didn’t stop them from hearing about the other people in each other’s lives as all the others met people they were dating. They never discussed this. It was something that just happened. Their friends had quickly noticed these actions by Enid and Wednesday. Tonight, they noticed that Wednesday and Enid kept trading glances. They were both single at this time.
The song changed to a slow song. Yoko ran over to Divina pulling her into her arms to dance together. Eugene asked Bianca to dance and surprisingly she said yes with a wink toward Wednesday. Kent grabbed Ajax and swung him around into his arm. That left Wednesday and Enid being the only ones not dancing.
Enid walked over to Wednesday tentatively. She slowly raised her hand out to Wednesday asking, “Would you like to dance with me.”
Wednesday nodded as she took Enid’s hand. The two of them slowly moved into each other’s arms. They still fit together perfectly. Both of them felt it. Wednesday felt Enid shudder as Wednesday sighed and relaxed into her arms.
“I’ve missed you so much,” Enid whispered into Wednesday’s hair. She had tried to stop herself from saying anything, but she couldn’t.
Wednesday closed her eyes. She had missed Enid too.
“We could get coffee sometime,” Enid offered quietly. “Maybe see if we could start over? If you would like?”
“I would like that,” Wednesday said softly.
