Carol would have to be blind to pretend that everything was okay. If she was being honest, the situation had spiralled our of control. It was worse than she could have imagined, and somehow, she knew that it would descend further into chaos.
Yet, just for this moment, sat in her ship with two actual, breathing people that were with her not in the presence of a phone call or a photograph or in her haunted dreams and memories, but with their existence, she decided that it was going to be okay. Not good, but she hadn't been okay for a long time. She would take okay.
Kamala said something and Monica laughed. Carol smiled despite not having caught what she said - the life they bled was infectious. She would take okay, if okay meant this.
