Chapter 3

Bella didn’t came to school that day. And the next day, and the day after that. In fact she was absent for a whole week. She spend time lifelessly staring at the window.

Then the night came – she was doing her evening routine like a robot, and then go to sleep. Only to be woken up by nightmares, screaming on top of her lungs and crying. Charlie didn’t know what should he do. Bella acted absolutely not like herself, and he was terrified. He would do anything to help her. He was even considering sending her back to Florida to live with Renee. He knew that his ex-wife was a little bit eccentric, but maybe it was a solution for the state his daughter was in. Even though he didn’t like this idea he was ready to do it, for her own good.

Not only chief Swan was thinking about possible solutions for Bella’s situation. Rosalie spend couple of days considering different options. She didn’t know why she started to care about this human, but she couldn’t occupy her mind with anything else. Every night she was sitting in the same spot to listen to the events happening in Bella’s house, and if she, by any chance felt better. But it was the same, if not worse.

On Friday afternoon she decided that maybe she should pay a visit to Swan’s house, and try to talk to Bella. She had a great excuse – since Bella was absent for a whole week, therefore she had a lot of homework to catch up on. She also thought it could be nice to bring something to eat. She remembered Charlie not being a cook, and Bella needs to eat.

After lessons she went to the parking and drove to Bella’s home. It wasn’t a long ride, but Rosalie started to overthink again if sight of her wouldn’t make everything worse, because she is a walking proof of Edward’s existence. But it was too late to hesitate since she almost reached her destination.

She parked her red BMW, and for a last time looked at herself in the mirror – “Perfect as always” she thought “but why my eyes look this tired?”. She left her vehicle and went to the porch. Charlie’s car was on the driveway. His presence was a relief – Rosalie was worried about Bella spending time without anyone. In this state she was unpredictable, and her being home alone could end in various unpleasant ways.

Rosalie knocked. She hears a sigh, and then a grunt when Charlie was getting up from the sofa. Then he went to open the door. His eyes widened in surprise.

“Good evening chief.” Rosalie started a conversation. “I believe, that I am a quite unexpected guest, but I wanted to check on Bella. She was absent for a long time, and I brought homework for her. I also brought a dinner for you. I believe this must be a difficult time for you, since this idiot of my brother ran away.”

During her speech Charlie’s eyes widened even more. He knew that Rosalie wasn’t much fond of his daughter, and as she reminded she was a sister of the one-we-don’t-mention. Her courage impressed him, just a little bit. “Evening, Rosalie” he answered “Thank you. Please come in. Bella is upstairs.” He pointed to the stairs.

“Thank you chief, and I am really sorry for what my brother did.” She replied. “If I can say anything, I was opposed to him leaving Bella. I don’t think that running away is a solution for any problem.” She handed food for Charlie, and went upstairs. She turned left, and gently knocked on the door of Bella’s room. She didn’t hear any answer, so she slowly opened the door.

“Bella?” Rosalie asked quietly, as if she was trying to approach a small, easily scared animal. Bella was sitting in her willow chair. Rosalie couldn’t see her face, because she was facing her window. “I brought you homework” She said in calm voice.

Bella didn’t even flinch at sound of her voice. Still facing the other direction. Rosalie went to Bella’s desk, and left books there. “I’m sorry for what happened. I know we never had chance to talk, not that I want to, but I am really sorry for what happened to you.” She didn’t know why she started to talk so much “Edward acted like a jerk, and I don’t think that you deserve any of it. If I could help you in any way I left you my number on a note between the books. You can write and call me anytime, don’t hesitate. I must go now, goodbye”.

Rosalie left Bella’s room, and went downstairs to say goodbye to Charlie. She left him her number too. Then she went to her car and drove away.

She didn’t stay long enough to see the lone tear leaving Bella’s eye and dripping on her cheek.
