Chapter 2

As soon as I had awoken this morning, I was full of dread. Having to attend a wedding is not an event I look forward to, especially between my brother and a woman he doesn’t deserve. After quickly changing into my best attire, I leave my quarters and walk through the halls of the castle, feeling the jealousy of my brother's position grow with each step. How I hate this entire spectacle.

The castle is adorned with decorations for the special day between the future king and queen, each one making my blood boil in my veins. However, the beauty of the decorations means nothing in comparison to her. Y/n walks down the aisle with her father and I watch as her dress flows heavenly behind her, her body adorned in shimmering jewelry. Her hair is wrapped and falls down her shoulders and my eyes soften as hers land on mine. There is an unheard conversation that happens between us as I use my telepathy to speak with her.

“You look like you are going to be sick.” I attempt to lighten her mood.

Her false smile becomes real as she reacts to my voice in her head, speaking back to me, “That isn’t something to tell a bride on her wedding day, Loki.”

I can’t help my own smile, “My greatest apologies, future queen of Asgard.”

“I still want to run away.”

“You could, but it would be a mess I would have to deal with.”

She fights a laugh and doesn’t respond back to me. I watch the entire joining of the two, my eyes lingering on Y/n for most of the event. The smile on her face is not the same as the one I gazed upon moments prior. Her eyes do not reciprocate her words or the smile on her face, and I find it curious how experienced she is at pretending.

After the most torturous thing I have ever had to sit through, the smile I wear disappears just as I slip out of the room. My thoughts are heavy as I walk down the halls, my shoes sounding louder than usual. As long as I live, I will never begin to live up to my brother. I attempt to escape to the library, but before I can get there, my brother calls out to me with mother walking beside him.

“Brother! Come, let’s celebrate!” I am sure he is attempting to rub my face in his success.

I plaster a false smile onto my face once again, “Let’s.”

Suddenly, I am glad I joined Thor in his conquest for celebration because there she stands speaking with her parents. I make my way over to her, ignoring anyone who attempts to stop me to talk about nothing but my brother.

I saunter up to her after successfully avoiding relatives and friends of my brother’s and she turns to me, her eyes looking up at me through her eyelashes. The reason I came up to her almost slips my mind as I stare down at her, however, I regain my composure and finally speak.

“Here I am, saving you.” I motion for her to follow as I turn, “And I made a promise to teach you Asgardian.”

She follows after me and I feel a sense of superiority to my brother, knowing that she would rather come with me. She stands next to me as we walk towards the library, my heart strangely beating harder than it usually does. Perhaps it’s a medical issue. I will make a note to see someone about it later.

I open the door for her, and she smiles, making her way inside of the vast library. I pick an Asgardian dictionary and motion for her to sit, “I am going to give you this to translate back to me in English. When a word doesn’t come to you, tell me, and I will write it down, we will go over them until you know them.”

Y/n nods and looks up at him, taking the book with hesitation, “What’s the reason you’re doing this?”

I furrow my brows, “I beg your pardon?”

She looks down at the novel and uses her slender fingers to fiddle with the pages, “I know a lot about you, Loki. From what I have been told, there’s always a catch.”

Damn these people for getting in the way of my plan. She now knows something seems off about this situation.

“There is no catch, I assure you-” She interrupts me.

“I don’t believe you.”

I hesitate for a moment to contemplate my next course of action, wondering if I should give in and tell her or come up with some silver tongued lie. However, I am more curious about Y/n’s reaction to something that is somewhat the truth.

“There is a catch. Thor has something I want.”

“What is that?”

“You.”
