The finale
It was a few months after the meeting with the TVA members. Mori paced around his office, wondering something. With all of the events going on with the Decay of Angels, could the one in charge be the He Who Remains of this universe?
Surprisingly, Fukuzawa contacted him. This rarely happened now, as he was busy fleeing from the police.
“Hello, Fukuzawa.”
“Hello, Mori. I was wondering something, and I thought it would be best to just ask you.”
“What is it?”
“I overheard your conversation with those people a few months ago.” Mori stared at his phone, which was on speaker. Fukuzawa was eavesdropping? Why didn’t he ask anything? “I know you asked me to leave, and I am sorry for listening in. I didn’t ask anything due to it having to do with your past, but I did hear what mission those people seemed to give you. I was just curious, would it be possible that the person they mentioned is the leader of the Decay of Angels?”
“To be honest, I was thinking along the same lines.” Mori sighed, knowing that there was no way to stop the conversation. “So, has your genius detective found out who the leader is, yet?”
“He has.” There was a long pause on both sides. “Fukuichi is the leader, and I suspect that he might be the person they were looking for. We have a plan of attack, but won’t ask you to participate in any way, unless you wish to.”
“Well, I was planning on something,” he admitted, “Chuuya was sent to go undercover and help Dazai out of prison.”
“Alright.”
For the next few days, Mori worked on getting the Mafia quarantined from the Vampire Infection. He knew that eventually it might end, as Fukuzawa told him the plan he hoped would work. He looked at the monitors that displayed information of the Port Mafia, and saw that the Vampire Infection was gone. Completely.
That was the perfect time for his phone to ring, but it did not. A few minutes later, however, it did.
“Fukuichi is dead,” Fukuzawa stated, knowing he would want the information.
“Alright.”
A portal from the TVA appeared, and out stepped the three from before. Mori said his goodbye to Fukuzawa to deal with his guests.
“So, I take it we were right about who was the variant?”
“Well, I am guessing so, as he is dead.” Loki threw a glance at Mori, before continuing, “According to my data, that was Fyodor Dostoevsky, correct?”
Mori was shocked, not only finding out that it was not who he expected but also the fact that the rat mastermind was dead. “I thought it was someone else, and this is the first time I heard about him dying.”
The monitor beeped with a message from Chuuya. It reinforced the data that Fyodor was, in fact, dead.
“Your information is correct, however.”
That would be the last time that Mori spoke with the members of the TVA, as far as he knew, as they went back to their home. Mori continued managing the Mafia, until another threat might arise.
