After an unknown amount of time because time is lost on the both of them. They had finished the ice cream carton and moved to the couch the both of them pressed together. Just soaking in the warmth of one another. An oversized blanket encasing them both that she knows Phil’s mom made from him years ago. Daisy’s grip had not loosened and it good bit of convincing to get her to move. Daisy was more on top of her than the couch. “You know I feel like I have known you for years. Dad he always told me stories about you for everything. Would you tell me a story about Dad please?” Daisy asks softly.
Melinda plays softly with her hair and hums. “I bet your dad never told you about our first mission together. It was very embarrassing for him. He was mortified when he got pulled into the assistant director’s office for the debrief and had to explain what happened. We had to go to a cocktail party to get intel on the cartel. The best part of the mission for him he said was the dancing and I always said that it was all the fighting I had to do when he blew our cover after the second dance. He said something wrong to the second man in charge. Don’t even remember what he said. I remember when we got out that he said he wishes I would always have his back, because I took down most of the cartel and got us out alive mostly unscathed. I hate dancing, but not with Phil….I never told him that secretly my favorite part was the dancing too.” Melinda is silent after that with a small smile.
“Dad is clumsy sometimes. He is a smooth talker though so it got me out of trouble sometimes. It’s funny to imagine him saying the wrong thing and causing that bad of a mess but I can see it. I remember him and Uncle Clint finding out that Tetya Nat and I had never been to a movie theater. They told Uncle Tony and talked him into buying a movie theater for us to go whenever we feel like it. We watched all the Star Wars pretty much back to back. They are my favorite movies. I never really watched a movie before that. Dad was such a nerd and kept whispering to me all the fun facts. Everyday with Dad was a good day even the bad days.” Daisy sniffles and burrows into my embrace. “I don’t know what to do without him.” Daisy mumbles out. “Shh I am here Bǎobǎo. We will take it one day at a time.” She says for both herself and Daisy.
