Chapter 9
After running away from the funeral, all Daisy feels is rage. Why did he have to go? Why did he have to do something so stupid like face off a God? She hacked into the cameras of shield to see how she had lost the person that she called her Dad. It wasn’t fair. She is screaming in her mind. Racing to her hideout on her bike getting there in record time. Daisy starts doing what she does best… looks for a fight. She uses her training and skills to look for a fight with a depressing lack of effort in hacking on her laptop. She finds her fight in a smuggling operation that is trying to make a profit on the misfortune of events during the battle of New York, deciding that that will be her target she collects her weapons.
She makes her way down to Hell’s kitchen on her bike parking in a secluded alleyway, she climbs up to find a good lookout spot. She takes out her scope and trains it on the dock door where product will probably come in and out. From her entail that she is gathered, she has around 30 more minutes before the deals will be happening in the ring leader of the operation will be there. She can feel her mind and body preparing for the fight and craving it. The rage and sadness inside her overwhelming. Go time—several people walk in casual clothes and one man in a suit. He sticks out the most she uses her AI tech named Iris that she built with her Uncle Tony last summer when she asked for one of her own. "Hey Iris run some facial recognition on the Suit for me please." Skye asks her AI through her glasses. "Roger that one facial recognition on its way….T. Vanchat a notorious international criminal that is very often on S.H.I.E.L.D.’s radar." Skye smiles at that as the thought goes through her mind in a bittersweet way. The funeral still too close so it is more bitter than sweet. ‘Let’s make dad proud.’
Sneaking in and finally make her way through the guards on the outside. Striking them down with her ninja like moves. Daisy works through ten of them and there are ten more inside including the Suit. She pulls out her newest and fanciest weapon her Night Night Gun. She tries to focus on the task, but she thinks about how her dad never got to see this invention. She shakes her head and shoots down seven out of ten before they can even blink. Knowing it only holds seven bullets she jumps down to take the rest on with hand to hand combat. For a few minutes she plays fair before she shoots the with her personalized widow bites. She takes Vanchat’s phone and looks for a laptop or computer. After she finds it she hooks up her hard drive. After decrypting everything she downloads all the information.
"Centipede huh? That looks interesting." Looking up from the computer she lets out a sigh. ‘This is a mess. A mess that I should call my favorite Aunt to clean up.’ She smiles as she thinks. "Iris call Auntie Nat please." On the other side of the phone is Natasha. "Daisy where are you? We have been looking for you since the end of the funeral." Natasha asks in a concern tone. Daisy frowns even this can’t make her lose focus of the loss she still can’t bring herself to cope with. She gives her the location of the warehouse and hangs up. She ties up all the bad guys and takes some of the tech with her. She isn’t going to stay and wait for her Aunt. She isn’t ready to face her family yet so before she goes to look for another fight. She leaves a note taped on to Vanchat’s forehead and leaves on her bike.
On her way to her other hideout in Queens she picks up a hotdog realizing the only thing she has consumed in the last 24 hours is Haig from her dad’s office. She feels a little bad for leaving her family in the dark, but she doesn’t know how to go through this kind of grief with anyone. She has been running since she found out. She remembers the pain and crying that had been caused when she hacked into S.H.I.E.L.D. to find out what was going on in New York since seeing it on TV. The image of her dad being impaled by the God named Loki will forever stay with her.
She would go through all the pains that she has suffered in her life just to have him back. She did right by him and did what he asked by giving Melinda that box not even knowing what was in it. She hadn’t been able to bring herself to open her own. She sits on the floor and reaches into her bag to pull it out.
It’s a small box that fits nicely in her hand it is wrap in Captain American paper. She sniffles and smiles. ‘Dad you are such a dork. Were. Not are. Were. How can saying things in past tense hurt so much?’ She thinks to herself. There is a watch inside and a piece of paper.
Dear Daisy,
I love you and I am so sorry, because if you are reading this I am no longer with you. I never wanted to leave you on this earth alone that is why I left instructions with those closest to us to look after you. I know that before me you never had no one, but Matty to call family. In the past years you have gained two uncles, an aunt, and me as your dad.
From our first meeting I knew that I want to be there for you. Being your dad was one of the best decisions of my life. You saved me Daisy. You brought me so much joy and laughter. Being your dad is the greatest job and honor of my life. Thank you for letting me there for you and letting me be a part of your life.
You are so much more than you give yourself credit for. You are so smart that I believe you can run circles around Stark. You are such a joker I believe that you can give Barton a run for his money on pranks. You are so sneaky that I believe you can rival even Romanoff. The world has been unkind to you and yet you are still one of the kindest people I know.
Do not ever lose sight of who you are and don’t forget you are not alone anymore. You have your family and now I hope you have Melinda too. I want you two to take care of one another for me. Melinda is a lot of work, but she is worth it. I love you Daisy. You will do great things I know it. I will always be proud of you kid.
Love,
Dad
P.S.
My last history lesson to my favorite student.
First Walkie-Talkie Wristwatch made in 1936 in Poland. They only made twenty.
Daisy wipes her tears and packs her things after putting on the watch. "Iris, I think it is time to go home."
