Chapter 6

Life for Daisy Coulson was never roses and sunshine. The beginning of what can be told about her life started with a violent snow storm. Only six pounds and two ounces bundle in cheap blankets dropped off at St. Anges without much care. She was estimated to be only six weeks old and was thought to not survive after a long night outside before the nuns found her almost frozen. Given the name Mary Sue Poots for seven years and ten different foster families that left her with more scars on the inside than out. Her only friend was Matty the blind boy that was more of an outcast than herself, but not by much. Matty was filled with rage about a lot kind of like herself. He knew how to box and taught her what he knew. In return she helped him with things he couldn’t see.

After six months of them being friends together it was the closest she had ever been to having anyone that cared for her. There was a man that ‘saw’ them boxing one day. Next thing they knew they went to live with him. When walking in it was like no foster home she had been to before. The tall man named Stick said, “This is where you both will sleep and train. Rest now.” She helped Matty get inside the futon and moved hers closer to his. “Matty that man, he is blind like you.” Skye whispers to him. Matty just hums softly in acknowledgment. “Get some sleep Skye.” Matty whispers back. Skye smiles Matty was the only one that has ever called her by her choosen name. “Night Matty.” Skye whispers.

For the next two years they lived with Stick it was training from before the sun was up and well after the sun was down. They were fed when Stick felt they had earned it. Her and Matty made an agreement that they would share their food with one another when the other didn’t get any. They were brother and sister. One morning Stick said he needed to do some errands and that she needs to come with him. Since being here her and Matty were never separated. He squeezes her hand. “I will be here when you get back Skye.” Matty says calmly. “Okay Matty.” She nods at him more relaxed. She squeezed his hand back if she had know that was the last time she would see him she would have held on for longer.

Stick had taken Skye to The Hand more specifically Madame Gao as way to make them think he is on their side. “I hope this girl will prove useful to our cause.” Stick says as he bows to Madame Gao. “She is such a little thing and her chi isn’t very extraordinary.” Madame says with disdain. “I have trained her for the last two years and I am sure underneath your guidance, she will excel your expectations.” Stick says with confidence. Skye looks at Stick as he is walking away. “Wait you are leaving me here?” Skye’s voice is shaking as she asks. Stick just continues to walk away and shut the door. In Skye’s mind or she can think of is Matty and how it feels like she’ll never see him again. Madame Gao put her hand on Skye’s shoulder. “Let’s see what you’re made of girl.” Madame’s Gao’s voice just makes her want to cry more, but if one thing she has learned it is to never cry. More ninjas come in and start to fight more like beat Skye until she is no longer able to stand. Skye feels the rage building more and more until she is standing up on shaking legs. Skye’s voice comes out stronger than she looks. “Is that all you got? I can do this all day.”
