Go to bed - Aaron Hotchner
You sat at your desk in the BAU bullpen surrounded by stacks of files. The BAU had taken on a pretty tough case and you were determined to find a lead. You pored over the file on your desk, blinking a bit to try to stay awake. You couldn’t sleep now, lives were at stake. You had to keep working on the case. You weren’t sure how long you’d been working at it, but it was long enough that everyone else had gone home. Or at least that’s what you thought.
Aaron stepped out of his office, briefcase in hand. He hadn’t expected anyone else to still be there. After all, he’d told all his agents to get some rest so they’d be better prepared to tackle the case in the morning. He stopped in front of your desk, clearing his throat.
That was enough to pull you away from your work. You jumped a bit, turning to look at your boss. If you weren’t awake before, you sure were now. “Sorry, sir. I thought everyone else had left.”
Aaron didn’t look amused. “They did. If I remember correctly, I told the team to go home and get some sleep, you included.”
You looked down sheepishly. “You might’ve said that. I just wanted to finish this stack and then I’ll call it a night.” You went to grab another file, but Aaron took it from you.
He set the file back on top of the stack with the others. “The files aren’t going anywhere. You can look at them in the morning. Now, get some sleep.”
You grabbed the file again. “Sir, with all due respect, I need to keep working. I think I'm close to finding something. There's a lead in one of these files, I just need to find it.”
Aaron sighed as he grabbed the file again. This time he kept it in his hand, knowing your next move. “You can keep working in the morning. Trust me, you'll be more productive when you're well rested. Now please, just go home.” You could tell from his tired eyes and the frown on his face that he was exhausted and losing his patience.
That didn't stop you. You only returned his frown, still trying to plead your case. “But sir-”
He never let you respond, tired of arguing. Or just tired in general. “Go home. Sleep. That’s an order.”
You sighed, glancing at the clock on the wall. You didn’t realize just how late you’d stayed at work. The others had left hours ago. You started to put your things away, realizing there was no point arguing with your boss. “Yes, sir.”
“Good. See you in the morning.” With that, Aaron walked away from your desk, leaving you to finish packing up. As he left, you swore you saw a hint of a smile on his face, but that could’ve just been your imagination or the lack of sleep. Or both.
