Chapter 4
Foggy, really was one of the best things that had ever happened to Matt. Ever since that faithful day in college, a lot really has changed for the blind lawyer. Over the years of their friendship, Foggy was always there for Matt, through thick and thin.
And when Jackie came into their lives, Foggy followed Matt, without hesitation into this very new chapter of their lives. Even after Matt told Foggy about his enhanced senses, a week after Jackie was born, Foggy still continued being a constant in his life.
They got into a huge fight over the before mentioned super senses, which ended with Foggy storming out of the room. Matt thought that Foggy had left for good, but the next morning he was there, making coffee for him and Matt, and a bottle for Jackie.
It was tough at first, Foggy felt a betrayed that Matt never thought to mention that he could hear a rat fart three blocks over, or that he could smell what someone at for dinner the night before, or that he could literally hear someone’s heartbeat and know when they were lying.
But they worked through it all, and little by little, things started to go back to normal. Well, as normal as having a newborn to take care of and now knowing that your best friend basically has superpowers.
After a lot of discussion (and Matt promising that he would come home with at least minimal bruising and that he would come home every time no matter what), Foggy even took Jackie the nights when Matt was jumping from rooftop to rooftop in search of criminals to beat up.
That last part, Matt was especially grateful for.
Like now, where Matt was saying goodbye to Jackie, before he went out into the night.
“Promise to be good for Foggy,” Matt murmured into Jackie’s mop of hair.
“Promise,” Jackie said back, clinging tightly to Matt.
Matt placed a gentle kiss to her cheek and pressed their foreheads together. He knew that with every goodbye, it may just be the last, but for now he didn’t want to think about the grim reality.
When Foggy and Jackie finally left Matt waited until he could hear them about 3 blocks away, before he decided to get some work done for the case before he ran into the night.

The night air was cool and the city was as quiet as it could be, which wasn’t much. Even when it was nearly midnight, Hell’s Kitchen and by extension the whole of New York, was always full of various noises. It was never fully quiet.
Most nights when Matt went out on patrol, he would stick closer to his apartment or Foggy’s, but tonight was not one of these nights.
Crouching down on the rooftop of a building that the nearest to the docks, Matt waited for the all too familiar webslinger to arrive. Peter was late, which wasn’t unusual, but he still worried a little, he wondered if he should go and look for the adolescent vigilante.
Matt didn’t have to wait any longer before he heard a *thwip* sound and someone swinging through the air.
There was *thud* as Spider-man landed on the roof a few feet behind Matt.
“Hey, DD, sorry I’m late, I had to stop a mugging on the way here, but I’m here now,” the teen rambled out.
Matt hummed and asked, “Have you heard from the other idiot?”
(The idiot in question, was Deadpool, or Wade Wilson. Matt met him through Spider-man one night when he had brought him along to a stakeout.
At first, Matt really wasn’t sure about him and asked what the mercenary was doing there.
Matt remembered the exchange going something like this:
“Why is he here?” Matt asked sceptically, folding his arms over his chest.
“Well, we kinda patrol together from time to time and I thought that we could maybe use the help,” he explained in one breath, “That and he kind took up the the position of overprotective big brother when he found out I’m still a minor.”
And with that they started going out at night fighting crime together, they would sometimes sit on a rooftop overlooking the city and eat greasy takeout.
They formed some kind of alliance, that was quickly dubbed by Wade and Peter as Team Red, because of their suits all being red.)
“He said something about needing to stop by Ellie’s grandmother to drop something off,” came the response and Matt gave a short nod.
(Ellie, or Eleanor, was Wade’s daughter. She was only 2 year older than Jackie, having recently turned 7. They would sometimes have play dates with one another, either at Matt’a apartment or at Ellie’s grandmother’s. She stayed most of the time with her grandmother and Wade would go and visit her every second he got.)
They only waited about a minute before they heard the creaking of the nearby fire escape.
Then they hear the loud *thud* that came from Wade’s body hitting the rooftop in exhaustion.
“W-we, really need… a better… meeting place,” he heaved. “Preferably somewhere closer to the ground.”
