Sam had been planning this for a while but they couldn’t find the time off. Until now that is he reserved the entire work week and basically bum rushed Bucky with it. Which is the only way Sam knew would work to get Buck to agree to it. They’re still working on the concept of the idea that he is allowed to have days off. It’s.. slow going but progress nonetheless every little gain is a win in Sam’s book. Slow but steady wins anyway he’d surprised his little murder bot with the air mattress first. Situated smack dab in the middle of their living room. Bucky inspected it skeptically then asked Sam.
“Why? Not that I don’t appreciate it but.. I’m not sure I’m understanding the concept.” Which happens with Buck he gets confused on things or other stuff is lost on him. A lot of explaining usually is involved to help him understand what’s going on. Sam announced “rule one of the staycation, the bed is off limits we’re sleeping here instead.” He’d explained Bucky furrowed his brows “you mean like a pillow fort that me and Stevie used to do on sleepovers?” Sam simply smiled and nodded which brightened Bucky right up. “Now I think I’m getting it.. so what are these other staycation rules?” He asked plopping down on the air mattress Sam smiled glad that Buck is indulging him as he listed them off.
The first night was Tolkein the extended editions paired with 40 chicken nuggs from Mickie D’s fries and two large sodas. Sam knows his little murder bot is also a huge nerd. They’d cuddled and managed to make it all the way through the eighteen hour run time. Even Alpine humored them by watching Two Towers from her cat tree. Like her mom she seemed all about Aragorn. Which Sam could appreciate the man is humble, hot and heroic all in one. The same qualities Sam knew that Bucky saw in Steve. Which is why whenever there was a battle Bucky wasn’t far behind Rogers. Sam could only hope he inspired that kind of loyalty he’s not jealous of Steve. But Sam would be lying if he said he didn’t often compare himself to Rogers. He’d even learned a few lessons from him on how to handle Buck.
The second night was pizza and Mission Impossible which Buck had a lot of feelings about. Sam did it on purpose so he could hear Bucky critique it. Which Buck called him out on it mid explanation because he caught Sam’s side smirk. Bucky couldn’t even be mad at him though because he likes speaking his mind. And bonus points because Sam loves hearing Buck passionately speak his mind. Over the course of the pizza Sam heard an entire lecture on how espionage actually works.
The third night was Mexican and Twilight which bless his heart. Bucky actually liked and wouldn’t hear anything to the contrary. Much to Sam’s amusement ofcourse because it is a meme to hate on it. And the fact that Meyers has gained a fan in a former cyborg murder bot is too funny. Obviously adorable which is a given but still very funny. That’s also the night Sam found out Buck wanted to try that in roleplay form. Specifically the protector looking out for his love interest even if Sam did point out how unhealthy that is. Buck likes his dark romance after all. Even though he swears up and down he won’t put it into action.
The fourth was drinking and games which really meant Sam was treated to WhiteSnake. Disney Trivia and that ADHD crow brain on full display and unfiltered. This time it was KFC which Bucky absolutely devoured. Sam adored that every two seconds while on the patio Buck got distracted. Because it meant that he was letting loose even if it took them two hours to finish one game. (And yes they used the kids cards because Buck has the attention span of a fruit fly when drunk.) A eager and cute as hell fruit fly but still.
Night five was bittersweet because it meant the end of their staycation. But they made the most out of it with what they could. Meaning Mario Kart and a Disney movie binge. When Buck allows it.. or it simply overwhelms him he can be pretty emotional. Poor thing but maybe they can plan another one sometime soon.
