The three little words that Wednesday had been subconsciously waiting to hear came on a random Tuesday morning. Ironic that it didn’t happen on a Wednesday. They had been dating for just over six months and the roles of being more than friends suited them perfectly.
Wednesday wasn’t sure she was cut out for such a life, full of sweet nothings and soft looks but she supposes just this once she would be okay with being proven wrong.
Enid is a wonderful partner; she is patient and respectful. She has also been learning how to ask for what she wants more now than ever before. An assertiveness she has gotten from spending more and more time with Wednesday.
Wednesday in turn made an effort to learn more about text speak and current slang. She expressed an interest in reading Enid’s blog and the blond had decided to give her a crash course of sorts in everything currently transpiring on the internet.
Enid writes with such colorful language, and it wouldn’t be something that Wednesday herself would indulge in. That being said, she loves her girlfriend, and she wants to support her every endeavor. She had known of the growing intensity of her feelings for quite some time, but she didn’t want to say anything in fear of overwhelming Enid.
This was her first relationship and hopefully her last, she wants to do things the right way. Which is why it bothers her so much when Enid just casually lets the words fly out of her mouth on her way to class.
Wednesday had been sitting at her desk going over some notes for her later classes. The sound of Enid scrambling around the room behind her had brought a smirk to her face. The taller girl had hit snooze three times before jumping out of bed when she realized she may end up being late.
She had quickly run into the bathroom rushing through her morning routine, pulling on her clothes and causing wrinkles in the process. Her hair was pulled into a messy ponytail, and she didn’t even bother with makeup as she shoved all of her books into her bag.
Wednesday was used to the chaos at this point. She simply stayed put waiting for her girlfriend to slow down enough to acknowledge her. She didn’t have to wait long before the blonde was ready to go. Enid leant down to drop a kiss to her cheek and give her shoulder a squeeze.
“We can meet up for lunch today unless you’re busy then I’ll just see you in Caddel’s class. Yoko and I are going to be there for your fencing match today too, don’t worry, I didn’t forget. See you later I love you.” It was all said in a rush as Enid was already heading for the door and Wednesday didn’t have any time to process most of what had been said.
But she definitely heard the last part. Enid loved her. Enid loved her and she wasn’t going to be able to see the other girl for at least four hours. Maybe it was for the best that she had more time to think about the fact that Enid had so carelessly thrown those words at her before running off to class.
For as long as she had known Enid the girl has been a romantic at heart so surely, she should understand the significance of such a string of words. Wednesday isn’t sure how she feels at the moment, and she wonders briefly if Kinbott would have been able to help her with this.
If Enid didn’t think it was that big of a deal maybe Wednesday was just overthinking things. Maybe she doesn't want some big gesture to precede the utterance of such an admission. Wednesday stayed lost in her thoughts for most of the morning until it was her turn to leave for class.
W&E
Enid swears she stopped breathing for a full minute the moment the door had closed behind her. Her feet stopped moving and she considered turning around and telling Wednesday to just forget she had even said anything.
Instead, she takes a couple of deep breaths and continues on her journey to class. Wednesday probably didn’t even hear her right? She was so focused on her own notes and Enid had a tendency to ramble so it’s possible that the other girl hadn’t even known what she said.
But Wednesday is incredibly attentive to a fault. She sees and hears everything. She hadn’t said anything back. Is it because she didn’t want to say it back or maybe it’s just because she had already been rushing out the door. It could have been shock that kept her from replying. It wasn’t like Enid was planning to confess her love this morning, it just kind of slipped.
She doesn't remember the exact moment she fell in love with Wednesday but she’s sure it happened somewhere in between late-night conversations and early morning caffeinated drinks. It was sometime between evening strolls and afternoon readings. At some point every song she began to play, on the gift so graciously given to her, was being subconsciously dedicated to Wednesday.
The more Enid thinks about it the more she doesn't want to take the words back. She does love Wednesday and she wants her to know. It may be too soon but tomorrow isn’t promised and if the world were to end, she would want Wednesday to know the true depths of her feelings.
By the time she has sorted out all of her thoughts, Yoko drops into the seat next to her. “Morning wolfy, ready for the exam?” Enid feels her eyes practically bulge out of her head. She knew she was forgetting something.
“I’ll take that as a no.” Her friend laughs at her expense but Enid can’t find it within herself to feel that bad. This is one of her easier classes and she only had a few more hours until she would get to see the girl she loves again.
W&E
Wednesday had been distracted all day and by the time she made it to lunch she didn’t even reprimand Ajax for having his elbows on the table. She sat down in her usual spot on the right side of the table at the very end of the bench. Enid hadn’t got here yet but Wednesday knows she won’t have to wait long; the hungry wolf never misses a meal.
Divina takes her seat across from her and gives her a wave in greeting before telling Ajax to remove his elbows from the top of the table. Wednesday smirks at this and finds it a little harder to be gloomy when Bianca takes her place at the other end of the bench.
Yoko and Enid show up moments later giggling about God only knows what. Enid sits down gracelessly in her designated spot next to Wednesday and she bumps their shoulders together briefly. Enid shoots her a toothy grin and at the sight of it Wednesday finds herself becoming irritated all over again.
If a confession of love is not serious in Enid’s eyes, then is she even taking their relationship seriously. She refrains from glaring at her girlfriend, but she does look away from her, choosing instead to focus on the meal in front of her.
Enid doesn't question her; she starts up a conversation with Bianca about their shared class. The stoney silence between the two of them goes on for the entirety of the lunch break. Enid doesn't pressure her into explaining her behavior, but she can’t hide the disappointment written all over her face.
Wednesday fights the unexpected urge within herself to comfort her beloved. There is a war in her chest between her aggravation with Enid’s casual attitude towards their relationship and the need to confess her own deep-seated affections.
If their friends notice their strange behavior, they don’t comment on it. When it’s time to head their separate ways for class Enid squeezes her hand just once, sending her a longing look. Wednesday doesn't squeeze back but she maintains eye contact this time.
She sits through class distracted and anxious in a way that she has never felt before. The material is nothing new to her and usually she would enjoy correcting the teacher but all she can think about is Enid.
The next class is the one they share together, and Wednesday doesn't know if she’ll be able to sit through an hour of Enid’s pouts and confused head tilt. On top of that she needs to remain sharp for her fencing match later this afternoon. She and Barclay may have patched things up but that doesn't mean she’s willing to go easy on her.

Enid is panicking just a little bit. Wednesday hasn’t given her the cold shoulder once since they had formed their friendship and now romantic relationship. She knew confessing her feelings too soon might cause a negative reaction, but she and Wednesday had been doing so good lately with open communication.
She never imagined that the other girl would ice her out completely. She’s aware that she could be overreacting. Wednesday is quiet on most days, only speaking when she feels the need to. But over the last couple of months her friends have become Wednesday’s friends and she has been contributing more to the conversations.
So, six months ago it wouldn’t have been strange for her to remain silent for the duration of the lunch period but now after they’ve made all this progress, it has Enid feeling uneasy. The anxiety in her gut only increases as she makes her way to their only shared class of the day. If Wednesday is upset with her, she doesn't want to make it worse.
Walking into class, the shorter girl is already sitting in her usual spot on the right side of the room close to the front. Enid slows her steps and forces the beating of her heart to do the same. Wednesday doesn't look at her as she tentatively takes the chair next to her.
She doesn't say anything, just continues to read from the textbook in front of her. Or at least pretends to read because after another two minutes Wednesday hasn’t turned the page and Enid knows she’s a fast reader. She decides that if Wednesday won’t speak to her maybe she’ll write to her.
So, Enid tears a piece of paper from her notebook scribbling “What’s wrong?” in her loopy handwriting, slowly gliding it across the table to Wednesday. The other girl arches an eyebrow before glancing at the paper scoffing at what she reads.
Nothing.
One word, that’s all she gets. One word written in dark ink, flawlessly penned under Enid’s own messy writing. Enid wants to argue with her, wants to yell at the seer for being so stubborn and difficult. There are so many things that she wants to say to her girlfriend in this moment but with their teacher starting the lesson at the front of the class she knows that there’s no time.
Wednesday keeps up the silent treatment for the entire class refusing to even look at her and when it’s time to be dismissed she practically speed walks trying to get away from Enid. Enid has a half a mind to just let her go but the possessive part of her brain won’t stop telling her to pick a fight.
Before Wednesday can disappear into another hallway Enid grabs her wrist pulling her into an alcove, away from the rest of the students still lingering in the halls. Wednesday is finally looking at her but now there’s a fire in her eyes that lets the blond know that she is pissed.
“What’s going on with you Wednesday? I have tried to be patient but I’m not a mind reader.” Wednesday pulls her arm free but doesn't make any moves to leave. She stays standing nearly chest to chest with Enid, breathing slightly harder than normal. The only outward sign that any of this is affecting her.
“I apologize if my silence caused you distress, I am simply distracted due to my match later.” Enid wants to roll her eyes at the obvious excuse. She likes to believe that she knows Wednesday pretty well, and the girl has never acted this way because of a fencing match. If she wasn’t sure before she is sure now, Wednesday is freaked out by her love confession.
Enid decides it would be better to drop it now and hopefully they can both just forget about it and move on. It sends a deep ache down in her chest but she’s willing to swallow her pride to keep Wednesday. Even if she doesn't love her back.
“Apology accepted just talk to me next time.” Wednesday nods quickly and walks off without saying another word.
W&E
Wednesday has never felt this stupid in her life. Enid is quite literally the best thing that has ever happened to her, and she is letting her slip right through her fingers. She gave her an easy out, all she had to do was explain how she had been feeling and instead she lied like a coward.
The worst part is that she is sure that Enid knows she was lying. The look on her face when the excuse had passed her lips is a look, she knows will haunt her nightmares and not the fun kind. Wednesday is aware that she needs to fix this and fast but with her match starting in thirty minutes and Enid nowhere in sight she’s afraid it will have to wait.
When she meets Bianca in the center of the room ready to put her helmet on, Enid is still absent from the chairs on the left side of the room. Yoko is also missing from the small group that has gathered so Wednesday feels a small bit of hope still present in her chest.
Enid said she would be here so Wednesday knows that she will be here.
The match is a fierce one, Bianca being one of the only people that she finds worthy of being her opponent. She’s quick on her feet and strategic in a way most of their classmates are not. They go tit for tat for a while staying tied for longer than Wednesday would care to admit.
As soon as she was finding her rhythm and ready to take the lead, she hears an excited yell of encouragement come from the left side of the room. A voice she would be able to recognize even in her dreams and it’s just enough of a distraction for the force of Bianca’s next hit to knock her on her ass.
Bianca laughs at her lightly but offers her hand to help her up. Wednesday takes the peace offering for what it is and accepts her help. She dusts herself off once she’s standing trying not to look too embarrassed. “You did well Addams. Same time next week?” Now with her helmet off she can see the amusement in Bianca’s eyes, and it renews her competitive spirit.
“I will not go so easy on you next time Barclay.” With that the siren walks off to talk to some of the other students that have gathered to watch them. Wednesday looks over in the direction of the crowd, trying not to make it too obvious that there’s only one person that she really wants to see.
She finds the blond head of hair a second too late as the wolf comes barreling into her almost knocking her onto her ass for the second time today. The taller girl wraps her in an embrace so tight if she wasn’t an Addams, she’s sure she’d have rib fractures and may have lost consciousness. The slight show of strength is really attractive, and it almost makes Wednesday forget that she’s supposed to still be upset with Enid.
“I know you can handle yourself but when I saw your head hit the ground you had me worried for just a second.” The words come out in a rush against the top of her head, and it makes her dizzy the way Enid cares for her. It's in this exact moment that Wednesday knows she must have misread the entire situation this morning. No one as genuine as Enid would ever be so careless with such intense emotions if she didn’t truly mean it.
“I’m alright. If you would release me, I would like to go back to our dorm. I believe there are some things we need to discuss.” Enid pulls back just enough to look into her eyes, she ruffles her bangs with the tips of her fingers.
“I agree.” With that Wednesday heads back into the locker room to change while Enid waits patiently outside the door. When she exits, she takes hold of the taller girl’s hand squeezing lightly as they make the short walk to their room.
Wednesday usually prides herself on her verbosity and keen ability to always know what to write, but speaking is another matter altogether. Which is why the second their door closes, and she has put down her bag the words come tumbling from her mouth unstoppable in their pursuit to get to Enid’s ears.
“I love you.” She keeps her eyes on Enid’s wanting to read every expression as they pass on her face in real time. There are so many emotions flying around in her eyes, joy, shock, relief, happiness and what Wednesday thinks might be passion.
Enid tries to say something, she opens and closes her mouth a couple of times before taking a shaky breath. She takes a few steps closer bringing them toe to toe. Wednesday hasn’t looked away yet and neither has Enid.
“I love you too. I love you so much Wednesday.” There are tears starting to form in her eyes. Tears that Wednesday hopes are of the happy variety. Wednesday doesn't think she has ever felt this way in her life. She takes both of Enid’s hands and pulls her even closer, kissing her softly on the lips. A pressure that is almost nonexistent, but Enid feels it all the same and returns her affection.
When she pulls back, she rests their foreheads together, soaking in the moment. “When you said it this morning, I was afraid that you might not have put much thought behind the words. I was anxious all day, nervous that you weren’t taking this relationship as seriously as I do.” Enid is quiet, she lets her get everything out. “I see now that I was prematurely making incorrect assumptions. I hope you can forgive me for being so stubborn.”
Enid leans down and plants another kiss to her lips. “In all honesty I hadn’t planned on telling you this morning, it just kind of slipped. But I wouldn’t take it back to save my life. I do love you and I want you to know that. The silence sucked but I can understand where you were coming from. It was a misunderstanding, it happens.”
Wednesday blushes under all the attention but she stays rooted in her spot. “I’m glad you said it. I’m not sure how long I would have waited had you not jumped the gun.” Wednesday lets a small grin take over her face as she looks at her beautiful girlfriend. “I’m so in love with you I’m afraid it may drive me mad.”
Enid laughs at this, and it puts her canines on full display. “I thought you’d be the kind of girl to enjoy that.” Wednesday fully intends to glare at the overly enthusiastic girl but she’s aware it doesn't come off as very intimidating. This point is made even more clear when the blond girl begins to pepper kisses all over her face, making exaggerated noises as she goes.
“That’s enough, stop slobbering on me mutt.” She pushes on the taller girl’s shoulders slightly, but she knows the other girl is much stronger than her. Enid relents in her kisses but retains her tight grip on Wednesday’s waist.
“I love you Wednesday Addams.” She says it like it’s a proven fact and Wednesday supposes only time will tell if it is. She has a feeling that Enid won’t be proven wrong and that causes a swarm of bats to take off just under her ribcage.
“I love you, Enid Sinclair.” Enid turns a pretty scarlet and Wednesday decides that this shade of red might be her new favorite color. It occurs to her in this moment that Enid is causing a flurry of new favorites in her life lately. A thought that would normally cause her disgust is now welcome along with the moths swarming just under her ribs.
