Mold in the walls

They walk towards Tony's parked car behind the bar. The car is shining in the moonlight and the people looking around suspiciously start rapidly walking away once they spot Peter and Tony walking towards the car. Tony gets his key out and walks toward the drivers' side, before he can get the door open Peter snatches the keys and nods for him to go to the passenger side. Bewildered, Tony freezes for a split second before matching the grim look on Peters' face and joins him. Starting the car, Peter gradually increases the speed and his grip on the wheel turns his knuckles white.

Honestly, he didn't know what he expected. He started to suspect what was coming the moment they entered the street and Peter started taking specific turns. They pull in front a run down building with half-dead water logged potted plants outside. Peter starts unbuckling and says, "I only bought one bed... so I don't think this is a good idea".

He spits out an last ditch attempt at an excuse only for Tony to smirk and turn the car off. Sighing in his face, Peter takes the keys and they get out walking towards the apartment entrance.

"Hold on, why don't we just use the elevator?"

Turning around mid step, Peter starts looking around the tiny place, "The stairs are literally the first thing you saw in this place, what elevator?"

Gaping, he started looking upwards dreading the 6 floor climb.

By the time Peter gets out the house keys, Tony is huffing and leaning on the wall beside the door, "Why the fuck... would you rent a place... without... an elevator?"

He leans over and whispers, "I'm Spider-Man", with a wink he walks in and leaves the door open for Tony.

Simply put, the place is a shit-hole, tiny bathroom, shitty heater, mold-covered walls. He plops down on the mattress, "You said you had _one_ bed"

"Yeah you're sitting on it", he hands him a mug with water and sits down on the ground in front of him.

With a look, he takes a sip, "This is not a bed, it's a mattress"

"Oh God, what is it with people? Bed, mattress, same thing", after a long pause, he sighs, "So why're you here?"

Tony looks up from the night stand and straightens, "For you"

If somebody asked him, he'd say that's the only sentence he uttered with so much confidence to the kid after meeting him again. He sees the kid trying to make sense of what he just said. The kid might just be the best thing that happened to him during the accords. Sure, he never made much of an effort of making that known at the time but he assumed that the months after Peter come back had sufficed. He spent a lot of time reassuring the kid, he loved him with all his heart and if he has to do it again, he'll work twice as hard to reassure him for life.

"Why?"

He didn't try to hide the puzzled look on his face at the question, "What do you mean why? Because I know you now Pete, and I love you"

Walking to the kitchen he placed the mug in the sink and leaned back against the countertop, "Remember what happened the last time you did"

"Pete no-"

"I'm serious"

"Me too, I'm not kidding, I'm not leaving"

Staring at each other for a bit, Tony thinks he saw tears stirring in his kids before he turned around and started washing the mug, "For Gods sakes, Tony, this decision was made keeping the sake of the universe- no, the multiverse in mind. We can't just go against it, you weren't even supposed to remember". He opens a cabinet and places the mug inside, "Fuck this, let's just wait for Stephen to call back and we'll get this sorted"

"No, I've said before, I'll say it again. I love you Pete and I'm staying whether you like it or not", standing his ground, Tony sits criss-cross applesauce on the mattress with a determined look on his face.

"Yeah yeah we'll see", Peter walks over while dropping his jacket on the floor and flops down face first behind Tony, "But it was nice meeting you"

Massaging the younger mans' calf, he replies with a sad look, "Don't say that"

"Why not?"

"Because it sounds like you're saying goodbye,"

Peter half snorts half sobs.

Waiting for a reply he lays down beside the kid and starts stroking his hair. Taking Peter's relaxing body as a sign, he continues and drifts off to sleep as well on the tiny bed.
