Lady Liberty stood in front of the mirror and smiled, she hadn’t felt this pretty since 1925 when she wore one of her Ma’s dresses. Her hair had grown long, she hadn’t cut it since being unfrozen four years ago. Her long blond hair now reached her back, it was in natural curls since she had put it in curlers the night before, and she had just gotten her nails done that day. She felt pretty, she felt really really pretty.
For the first time in her life Lady Liberty wasn’t Captain America, wasn’t Steven Grant “Steve” Rogers. She was Lady Liberty. She was Angelina Marie Rogers. And now that he remembered her as Steve, she was about to meet her best friend for the first time as Angelina. Angelina wouldn’t lie, she was terrified, it’s not that Bucky wouldn’t accept her, he had known since 1935 and had always called her Angelina in private but after 70 years apart, she was scared for absolutely no reason.
“You ready, Angelina?” Natasha asked from the doorway of Angelina’s bedroom, Angelina turned from the mirror and looked at the spy, she felt her breath quicken a little, why she was so nervous she would never know, she was also really excited to finally have her best friend back, but couldn’t help but be terrified. Natasha had a small smile on her face, and it seemed like she could sense Angelina’s nerves. “Bucky is really excited to see you,” she added with a soft smile.
Angelina took a deep breath before following her down the hall, she saw him before he saw her, he was sitting on the couch with Clint playing video games. “Trust me, Bucky, Angelina is excited to see you, everything will be fine, she doesn’t hate you.” Clint said. It made Angelina’s heart flutter a little, Bucky was concerned she would hate him. It made Angelina want to wrap him in a blanket and tell him everything was okay.
Angelina walked straight into the room and flopped into Bucky’s lap like she used to do when she was smaller, it was okay though cause he was also a super soldier. wrapping her arms around his neck and kissing his scruffy chin. “Hi,” she said, her eyes wide with wonder at Bucky, god it had been so long since she’s been held by this perfect man.
Bucky didn’t say a word, he looked at her for several seconds before dropping his xbox remote and wrapping his arms around Angelina before sobbing and Angelina let him, he gently cradled her in his arms, her head resting against his chest. It was like the old days when they shared that shitty apartment in Brooklyn, Angelina would wear her Ma’s clothes and a wig and Bucky would spin her around the kitchen before Angelina ran out of breath and then he would hold her on the couch.
Eventually Natasha threw a blanket over the two of them and Bucky made sure that Angelina was warm enough despite the fact that she can’t get sick anymore. “God I missed you, Lady Liberty,” Bucky said quietly when Clint turned on an old movie that Angelina had mentioned Bucky taking her to see for their first date.
“I missed you too, Soldier,” Angelina replied, “I missed you so much,”
